  1. Gibbons waiting one batter too long once again.
  2. That was one of the worst opportunity-to-result innings of the year. Put the f***ing wood on the ball.
  3. Brutal PAs everywhere today. June 7th or April 7th?
  4. I really love Gibby's little streak of antagonism with the media lately.
  5. 'Arcane' is more obscure than 'obscure' is arcane, I'd say.
  6. Thanked for the thanks for arcane and obscure word usage.
  7. Totally with you. If your best reliever is ready to go, absolutely use him against the top of the order of the league's current best offense while playing in their clown park. Osuna got rocked (luckily not rocked enough), but I still defend the move. If it were 5-2 going into the ninth we wouldn't even be having this discussion because it would be the "right move". Stat managing is the scourge of winning baseball games. If anything was crazy, it was bringing in Estrada to face that lineup again. Everything in the 7th was stung. And while I can't really fault Gibby for letting Estrada have his shot at the no-hitter, the homer in the 8th wasn't much of a shock. Bringing him out for the 9th seemed destined to fail. Gibby seems comfortable with avoiding the bullpen as much as possible. That's all right, I guess, as long as his starts are effective and efficient. But I think he tends to go a step too far and allows his guys to get themselves into a bit too much trouble before bringing out the fire extinguisher.
  8. For near-50 white celebrities, Kylie Minogue and Her Holiness Monica Belucci.
  9. And dick-cutting glass farts are as good as dinner and flowers.
  10. Where's the board defibrillator? Some of our members might need some help.
  11. Estrada was fantastic. Osuna is the safe bet here, though.
  12. If JD's still sitting then I'd prefer the whole thing get rained out, tbh.
  13. I don't think it would have been a great idea either. It's just that I kept arguing that Stro should be able to make a single out even though that wasn't exactly the situation.
  14. There was only one out in that situation? Jesus I completely forgot. I thought there were two. Uh, derp?
  15. Force scenarios work both ways. A walk or HBP become an instant run. Ortiz also runs like a turtle, and Hanley isn't much better. It's not like you have to worry about catching Kiermeier. You shouldn't need a force play to make an out on either of those guys. If you can't throw out Ortiz or Hanley at first then there's an extremely good chance that Betts, Pedroia, or Bogaerts are already safe at the next base. Maybe Ortiz takes too long to get to second on a groundball, but now you're planning for a really specific scenario that you can't really control.
  16. There's no such thing as "open". Putting a guy on because a base is "open" just means putting a potential run there. It also means Stroman doesn't have the leeway of a BB. The more guys that are on, the more damage that can be done, including the more ways. And yeah, maybe Ortiz doesn't score on a double. But that just means you're back at 2nd/3rd with 2 outs, but now down by two more runs. You can't just say Ramirez is the better matchup (which I agree it is) without acknowledging how much more trouble you need to put yourself in to get to him.
  17. I'm not neglecting anything. I agreed it's the better matchup. I'm saying that I don't think the better matchup is worth tightening the vice like that. I might agree with you if Ryan Hanigan was after Ortiz, but Hanley is not a slouch either.
  18. I know it's the better matchup but picking the matchup you like isn't cost-free. It involves putting another chip on the pile with 2 outs. I don't think that's worth it. So many more ways a run can score with the bases juiced, too. BBs, HBPs, and the like. It's a distinctly worse scenario.
  19. I like Jonn. I just don't know WTF he was doing complaining about wasting Osuna in last night's game.
  20. Good idea, maybe even better than your suggestion of saving Osuna for today.
  21. Dunno. If Stroman can't get Ortiz then he has serious problems. Which is not to take away from Ortiz, but more that a major league starter should be able to make a single out when necessary. Hanley could have shot one over the monster for four runs vs. what Ortiz did. I mean, that's not what happened, but that's hindsight.
  22. Jays weren't hitting much today anyway. 6-4 makes it seem like it was a more contested game than it was. Don't forget that two runs scored on a damn strikeout + passed ball + no coverage circus play.
  23. Eh, a loss is a loss. Getting yesterday's underdog matchup makes this loss a push for me. No biggie, though I was hoping to see some encouraging things from Stroman.
