  1. I'd love Tulo leading off, if you're offering
  2. I would keep JD exactly where he's best. Travis can hit before Pillar. If he can hit second he can hit seventh. Or just lead off Trav vs. the lefty and Zeke can gtfo to 9th.
  3. Lol @ the rationale that Zeke gets to stay leading off for doing "such a good job", but MVP gets bumped from his spot for the rook 2B.
  4. Look at WTF joking around and enjoying himself before the game. How dare he not update the original post with the lineups. This isn't child's play. This isn't fun time. This IS A GDT THREAD!!!
  5. Lineup: Carrera the immovable lead-off rock. Travis getting the DH spot too. A thing, or just no confidence in Smoak hitting the lefty? Or maybe Smoak is hurting.
  6. Road Runner was my favourite Looney Toons character. Sometimes I'd change the channel if another character came on, but if it was Road Runner I'd always be like 'wait, I really should see this'.
  7. Well I don't have any opinions on ranking it among all-time lopsided trades. It's just that you just said one day we'd think "wtf", and I'm saying the trade was completely reasonable from the Jays' end. Even future BJMB members should be able to look back and see that getting JD was a no-brainer at the time, regardless of what Barreto does in 2023.
  8. What if Lawrie wins an MVP and Graveman gets into a Cy race? Why not just assume the best-career scenario for the other guys involved too? Even 1 MVP is a huge stretch for Barreto. Way likelier that, if he pans out, he ends up as a pretty good major leaguer at around the same point JD is entering his twilight.
  9. We made a completely reasonable trade for an MVP candidate during a playoff window, and all it cost was two fringe starters, a post-hype slighty-above-league-average infielder, and a good prospect.
  10. Well if you don't like the guy you don't like the guy. If you think six years of elite batting and like 33 WAR for your favourite team is overshadowed by natural defensive declines and his attitude on the field, then that's what you think.
  11. Give the job to Trouba. He's used to block buttons.
  12. Fitting? One of the best hitters in the franchise's history and you think an OF injury is a fitting end because the org has let him play his old position past the expiry date? Come on.
  13. It's just that Wins and % don't tell much of the story, but I see what you're saying. It's easy (and correct) to laugh at Romero's 2012 W/L line (or Hutch's from last year). But Roy pitched for both strong and weak hitting Jay teams, so over a near-career size like I'd agree that it's not incorrect to assume a high W% = quality.
  14. It could mean all those things, a couple, or none. But mostly it probably means the GM isn't going to throw his young starter under the bus in the middle of a season that is otherwise going well for the rest of the squad. I'd say it's likelier that there's something up with Stroman than not. Maybe not injury-wise, but lots of his pitches look weak and ugly and predictably get clobbered. It could just be an enormous rut.
  15. I like him, but I'd agree that he sounds more tired than I remember (for obvious reasons). The charisma is definitely there though. He's also really funny. The other day I was passing by the Brewers/Dodgers matchup, and it was (I think) Broxton hitting when Scully rattled off a whole string of accomplishments and anecdotes and then finished with "And he's great on a skateboard!" Amazing. As for Toronto's TV crew -- pretty bad. Buck and Pat are alright, I guess, but there are way too many times when they just babble and very little of what is said holds up. I can live with Zaun and I actually appreciate his insights into life as a major leaguer. But Campbell, Mae, Davis are all so awkward. Almost any time Hazel has extended speaking she flubs something. Campbell is fine as a host but literally the instant he tries to ad lib he goes right into the pavement. I remember when Campbell/Mulliniks was one of the play-by-play dynamics. Just indefensibly bad. Has anyone watched MLB Plus broadcasts? Lots of advanced statistics and strategy, but my lord it just sounds like basement nerds trying to socialize. The format desperately needs a pinch of charm.
  16. Gibby: "Go the dugout. Don't swear into your glove. Don't smash the bench."
  17. Okay, so I guess I'm the ******* now?
  18. Asking in advance: Does Kim's leadoff hit get into the alley for a double or does one of the fielders cut it off and hold him to a long single?
  19. Stroman with amazing luck on these two outs. Also, Buck slightly annoyed that Stro stood in the hot sun for 20 minutes during the delay.
  20. Martin with a lot of time to persuade Stroman to throw something other than a 2-strike sinker.
  21. Pinnned between his car and his mailbox. Awful.
  22. Worst slogan, I've been saying it all year.
