  1. I'm not as much in the know as some on this board, but I've never felt like my follow of Ken Rosenthal was misplaced. From my experience, he tends to have at least a foundation for his smartphone tweeting. What's actually kind of funny is that he doesn't officially attach his name to, for instance, this Miley ******** going on. He simply retweets the guys doing the reporting. In this case, Morosi. It kind of allows him to get in on the breathless click-baiting but also lets him keep professional credibility by not taking actual credit for breaking out-and-out lies if that's what they turn out to be. MLBTR is okay too, although, they and Rotoworld all tend to end up parroting each other. It's a lot more transparent if you follow all of them how much the information is pretty much up for grabs.
  2. It would work fine if we weren't forced to hang on the every word of trigger-happy click-bait hacks.
  3. That is one bitter dude. I don't think he's long for Oakland (not that it didn't already seem to be the case). EDIT: He seems to be trying to make good of the situation, but I feel like he's already made his feelings loudly known.
  4. ^ I'm not understanding the claim. Is he saying he can fudge the numbers with no one able to tell the difference? Or is he saying he knows how to mismanage a surplus into a deficit? Sorry if I'm being thick; something about the statement is throwing me.
  5. Lawrie played very hard (to a fault) nearly every play. I have no ill will towards him. I hope he has a great career. I've wanted to take potshots at former employers before. Getting traded for a player everyone considers a massive upgrade kind of stings, too, especially if you've been hurt as often as you've played and are struggling to adjust.
  6. I would too. The "team-friendly" contract is an attractive phrase for everybody but one.
  7. Man, I'd love Lowrie for 2B and backup SS/3B. Come on, AA!
  8. A lot of that seems reasonable, but what about @NL games? I'm pretty sure at least 10 games were played without a DH last year, maybe more. I'd make those unanimously Martin starts, with Edwin at first. This is a no-brainer, I think. Worth mentioning though because there are distinctly not 162 DH positions in a season.
  9. I'm not high, but hopeful. I don't think there's any reason one should think he can't bounce back. He's overcome far more, unless there's something about his current pickle I'm unaware of.
  10. I've never read it, though I was looking into picking it up this week actually. Hilarious.
  11. So an altercation over a day off and some chest puffing slurs led to Beane lighting the dynamite on his squad. Somehow I thought Beane was smarter than this - actually I still do. Likelier the anonymous source has a skewed enough view of things (i.e., meathead) that makes him believe this was the lynchpin. "Nobody talks to Billy that way" makes him sound like some hired goon in a bad action flick.
  12. Your RH lineup is plausible with a Donaldson and Bautista swap, I think (though I suppose the 2-3 setup is the whole point of it). LH has no chance, though I immediately dig the Smoak-Valencia platoon. I somehow keep forgetting about Danny in all of this.
  13. That's the first thing I thought yesterday when I heard about this. I'd be all for it.
  14. I think I saw him post an Insider on the Donaldson move the other day.
  15. If you didn't pit evolution subscribers and the religious against one another, you certainly equated them: There is ample evidence for claims of evolution and if neuroscience hasn't solved the entirety of the brain, there's still no reason at this moment to think that the undiscovered answer is the result of a different process than the one that governs all of nature. The claim that evolution subscribers are no different than Muslims (why just Muslims by the way?) is where you are completely wrong. I read your post, understood it, and responded carefully.
  16. Regardless of what one thinks of Keith Law, we should (need to, actually) all agree that ESPN's conduct is completely and utterly contemptible. Just to add a bit here... The natural (and wrong) counter-argument to your first point is that faith in science is the same as faith in religious claims, since the non-scientists have no choice but to take the experts' word on everything. This is not true, since scientists and their peers publish their findings and explain their methods. And whether a scientific conclusion is contradicted or its evidence rendered obsolete later on is irrelevant - one follows demonstrable and measurable facts where they lead. For non-scientists who must believe in what experts say in order to stay educated, the "faith" this hinges on is distinct because of the understanding that new discoveries can and will change previous understanding, and that abandoning old conclusions is frequently necessary. It's simply a failing of our language that "faith" is such an all-purpose word that it can be stapled to any concept to demonstrate equivalency.
  17. There have been a couple of clobbered balls that have gone directly into gloves. s*** result, but hopefully a few will fall in (consecutively please).
  18. That's two errors on Colby, IMO. Terrible play. At least that's it.
  19. This strike zone better straighten the hell out please.
  20. Gah. Weak AB by Lind, but it's the only way to get him back in form. A 1-0 lead is still good though!
  21. Poor conditions in today's game, so they pulled him. He's now on his way to Buffalo to play a series with the Bisons. I imagine this means he'll be back this weekend. Good news!
