  1. Jed Gyorko and Yangervis Solarte, they mean? I can't stop laughing.
  2. If that's the biggest factor there's no way he comes here. Kinda sucks, I guess.
  3. Every day in Toronto is a 40 degree day, just tell him that.
  4. We'll have to agree to disagree on this.
  5. Total non sequitur. Boxcar was totally correct in calling him out.
  6. AA just ask the guy if, while on a one year contract in a brand new league and country, he'd rather play in an offensive environment or in a park where offense goes to die?
  7. I wouldn't put it past Beest to turn the fact that the backloaded contracts are kicking in into "we have more money to spend" to appease the hype train.
  8. Why do you believe he specifically has insider knowledge? I follow him on Twitter and usually take a peek at his pieces, but he's always just struck me as a guy who just knows his business well enough to make reasonable predictions.
  9. This is how I tend to look at this as well. Shi & co. are decent reads, but they're under an obvious obligation to keep the traffic flowing to the Sportsnet page. Their analyses really aren't that much different than what some of the more baseball-business savvy posters on this board would put together. And yeah, the payroll maneuvers suggest the attempt to land as many effective pieces as possible. I tend to think he'll need to resort to trades at this point, as guys are flying off the FA shelf now. Who knows what's coming when it comes to AA? Most trades have build up, but AA's seem to just happen. The last one I can recall being in the news before it was actually news was the Dickey move.
  10. He lives in Houston, which is probably counting for a lot in this case. Barring a colossal difference in offered cash a team like the Jays were probably only ever a leverage chip. I'm willing to bet AA was trying to be as in on this as possible.
  11. Argh, I'm starting to hope we land that Toritani dude for 2B. Lowrie to the 'Stros:
  12. Serious 3B talent in the AL East: Machado, Sandoval, Headley, Longoria, Donaldson. Wow.
  13. I also really like how he rolls little factoids like that into his pieces. These are nice little anecdotal pieces but that excerpt is just clunky. I don't think I could read any extended pieces by Gammons if that's representative of his output. I question any editor that lets sentences like those get published, but I wouldn't be surprised if Gammons' clout just earns him a free pass. I imagine a young copy editor wouldn't have enough sway to insist that Gammons' sentences roll about as well as a square wheel.
  14. I read that too, but I can't remember where. Whatever it was also specified he likes the mid-west too (hahahahahaha).
  15. Wow. I was skeptical myself on whether the shuffling created a more productive team, but there it is, I guess. This makes me pretty excited to see where all the saved money will be allocated.
  16. So a division with the Rockies, Padres, and D-Backs is ranked higher than Brewers-Cards-Pirates-nuCubs and the five non-terrible teams of the AL East? I wouldn't even rank them higher than the AL West. The only division that's clearly as s***** is the NL East.
  17. I find the Star to be pretty much clickbait when it comes to sports.
  18. If she starts talking about pitcher wins he stops the car and lets her out right there.
  19. Would you want to spend much time here during May of the 2013 Blue Jays season?
  20. I could live with this, though, like some other moves this offseason, only if the money saved from avoiding a current MLB player contract is allocated to other areas of need.
  21. Friedman + actual budget could be a terrifying thing in the coming years.
  22. How does a deal even happen at this point? That is some bold shooting your employer in the foot (not that I disagree with it, but still).
