  1. I never understood the Mattingly hire to begin with. The guy came from a losing culture in Miami, and ever since he was brought in here the lineup has done nothing but regress/under perform.
  2. Trying to get an ASG isn't that much of a big project in reality. I definitely don't see it being the difference of him wanting to stay here or not. IIRC Shapiro interviewed with an NFL team even when he was employed by the Blue Jays in his first couple of years here. People around here like to think the Blue Jays is one of the best jobs blah blah when in reality there are much bigger jobs out there. And if the people in the city don't like you and complain about you, why would you really want to stay?
  3. Well Schneider at least swore in his press conference tonight that’s a start. Honestly it wasn’t so much him not calling out certain guys, it was the “everything is fine, these guys are going to hit” s*** that he’d been saying for a year and a half. If he said “the team is playing terrible right now, and we need to start playing with some urgency” that goes along a way. Which I pretty much think he said tonight. Some accountability from the team leaders too would be nice.
  4. This team is lucky to even have the record they have. By run differential/base runs this has been a bottom 5 team in baseball this season. Are they actually this bad? No of course not but even optimists would say this is a high 80s win team at the absolute most. When you combine the fact that they are going to have an uphill battle to even make the postseason and with all the upcoming FA/roster spots to fill, I think they almost have to sell. You’re better off trading a few wins from this season in order to become a mid 90s win team in 26-28.
  5. His swing and miss is way down and fastball velo last 2 starts has been 93.5MPH so I wouldn't say he's returned to form. Considering he is a 2 pitch pitcher for the most part not having command of the splitter is a pretty big component.
  6. 2011 was really fun too. I think that year I watched maybe 160 out of 162 games. It felt like Jose wouldn't miss any mistake pitch in the zone, was amazing just watching his at bats. Meanwhile you had Jo-Jo Reyes pitching every 5th day and Corey Patterson taking at bats in front of Bautista. Now not only is the team bad, but you have comments from Schneider and the FO being like "I'm confident this team can turn it around blah blah blah" showing no accountability. Its just the same s*** over again.
  7. If Gauseman returns to form then yes should be one of the most valuable players on the market.
  8. Yeah Kikuchi and Garcia are really the only 2 guys who's value would be at the highest, Jansen too I guess. Berrios you could probably get decent value back with his team friendly deal. Bassit and Springer don't really have any value and then Vladdy/Bo/Gauseman all are not performing to their abilities. It's still early May so lots could change from now till the deadline. If they do decide to sell they really need to do a better job of getting assets back because back in 2017-2019 they really failed. Had some good assets in Stroman/Happ and whiffed completely plus waited too long on Donaldson.
  9. There's a huge adjustment once you get to the MLB level. Look at Holliday the number 1 prospect in baseball, he couldn't hit s*** when he came up. Everyone always clamors for a "sustained window" however its pretty hard to actually pull that off since there is a big learning curve at the MLB level and rookies often struggle.
  10. I think Shaprio actually has done a pretty good job as president. Dealing with s***** Rogers and actually getting them to invest in the team is an accomplishment in itself. The biggest problem he's had has been the baseball Ops side/hiring Atkins and sticking with him all this time. But I don't think anyone would say anything bad about the renovations to RC and the player development facility in Dunedin seems pretty good too. People forget how crappy Rogers has been in the past as an Owner and that we haven't heard anything about them in the past 10 years has to be a credit to Shaprio. Meanwhile you hear about Ed Rogers meddling with the Raptors in the same time frame.
  11. Have to wonder if Shapiro even wants another contract with the Blue jays. He seems like a big project guy and after the Dunedin and Toronto ballpark renovations there really isn’t another big project like that on the horizon. Especially if the team is going to go through a retool/rebuild is he going to want to stick around knowing 2027 could be the earliest year of contention. Also he is American and both his kids go to US colleges, so he might rather live closer to family in the states especially since he is getting older. (Although he strikes me as a guy who enjoys work and always wants to be involved in something)
  12. I mean it makes sense the jays should sell and capitalize on their SP/some of their relievers. With most of the pitching staff due to become free agents the next 2 years (and lineup) for that matter, they would be better off with some high upside prospects that could contribute in 2026/2027 than having 80-85 wins the next 2 years. The farm system is weak relatively and they are going to need some low cost young players even if they can fill a few spots via free agency. Now it’s a question of will Rogers let Shapiro/Atkins run the re-tool.
  13. What they need is coaches who are great communicators who can show information to players in a way they can understand so they can perform better. You can have all the smartest guys and it won't mean s*** if they can't get the players to understand/make changes. A lot of the time on at the coaching level information can be too much. If I compare it to golf, you can go to an indoor simulator with a GC quad and all the information on your swing/contact and tbh you can easily get lost in the numbers. When I took lessons from one of the better coaches a lot of the time he would just tell me to focus on a "feel" which would make the changes needed without any looking of the numbers and yet the ball speed numbers jumped 5%.
  14. Its more than likely below them. But at the end of the day they are the ones in charge of hiring people to make these decisions so it falls on them. And identify the problems and find solutions. It takes a long time to shuffle old people out and bring in new people and to see results from those changes, but they've had 8 years now which is more than enough time. They've built a great player development facility yet the farm system has been average at best and they aren't developing talent at the major league level. Also its clear there is a massive communication problem inside the org. given the comments last year at the end of the season and even this year.
  15. He's got 7 errors in 21 games. The last thing they need to do is call up a guy before he's ready. He could make 2 errors in the fist game and it destroy his confidence, I mean look at Barger.
  16. What the point of keeping Atkins around in this scenario? He's terrible with the media so keeping him on in the GM role if he isn't making many of the baseball decisions seems redundant. "Starting Fresh" and getting rid of Atkins I think would give a breathe of fresh air throughout the Org. Kind of signals to everyone inside and out that the failures are in the past so to speak.
  17. The baseballs seem dead. I've gone to 5-6 games at RC so far and the ball just isn't carrying.
  18. FG base runs has the jays being the 4th worst team in baseball so far. With the run prevention showing they’ve actually really been lucky so far. I think I’d have to agree as the pitching really seems to have struggled with only kikuchi and Garcia having greater than expected seasons. Berrios has been fine but the numbers def show he’s been lucky. Gauseman still doesn’t seem right and Bassit has been pretty meh. The bulllpen has been super inconsistent, where it seems like guys just don’t have it some nights and really implode.
  19. With how Jansen is swinging the bat I wouldn’t have minded him DHing and putting Turner at 3rd.
  20. I'm as hard as anyone on Vlad's poor defense at First but that was a bad throw. He had to stretch to even catch the ball.
  21. Terrible defense. Yeah this Blue Jays just isn't a good team...
  22. Barger is unplayable in the field.
  23. I wonder if Bo is playing through injury. He had those neck spasms at the beginning of the season and he certainly seems far less "explosive" at the plate and in the field.
  24. Using his lower half much better too. Last year it seemed fastballs up in the zone would result in a very armsy flail like swing. He still seems a little prone to the high heat but at least can do damage on mistake pitches.
