  1. WAR is WAR but I think everyone can agree that if they went into the season with the lineup they have right now it would be pretty bad. Varsho likely isn't ready by opening day and then on Kirk off days you have Heineman so from 5-9 you've got a black hole. Also we've seen the last 2 years how frustrating a team is that can't score runs.
  2. With the new draft lottery rules the Jays wouldn't be able to get a lottery pick 2 years in a row so in a way it makes tearing down/doing a full rebuild less advantageous. And with the expanded playoffs teams are probably saying well we may as well try to sneak into the postseason. I understand the idea of selling high on a lot of players though given the impeding FA in next 2 years (vladdy, bo, gauseman, bassit, berrios, kirk) The system actually seems to be doing a good job of making teams try to be more competitive.
  3. If you trade Bo the offence takes another hit though unless you are getting a good hitting outfielder in that scenario. I agree all we can do is wait to see what the team looks like in March because there has to be other moves made for it to all make sense.
  4. No way Joc is coming to Toronto. Maybe for an astronomical overpay of like 10M more than the next offer but at that point he would cost too much. He's been on the West coast his entire career.
  5. They would have had a pretty good excuse to lower the payroll too considering 1USD=1.41 CAD. Rogers was super cheap in the 2010s but you got to give them credit for spending the last few years. Like you said its been what they've done with the $ thats the problem.
  6. I actually like Sandlin and think he's an underrated part of this. Lots of swing and miss and is cheap plus has options. Gave up a ton of homers the last 2 years but hardly any the 2 years before that. I think I read something about Cleveland being super home run friendly in RF because of the wind or something weird last year so maybe the HR/FB rate returns to normal. Jays needed pen arms and its nice getting a lottery ticket with upside without having to pay for it in FA.
  7. The funny thing is Otto Lopez last year wasn't that different from Giminez and the Jays let him go for nothing.
  8. Yeah I don't mind it. Horowitz could end up having a Rowdy Tellez type career and that just isn't that valuable, and you can find guys like that pretty easily on 1 year deals in FA. Theres some upside with Giminez if he can be elite at SS and hit a little bit more. He could end up declining defensively/on the bases and the offence gets worse in which case that contract will look bad but seems like a reasonable gamble to take given where the Jays are.
  9. It makes sense if you add another bat or 2 in the lineup. If this was all you do then it makes no sense. I'd much rather the Jays make this move then give Bregman 175M. If Giminez slides over to SS and is elite there you could see him being a 3-4 Win player even with the mediocre bat.
  10. If its only Horowitz that not bad. He didn't really have a spot on the roster since he couldn't play 2B even though the LHB was nice. Sandlin is fine at the back of the pen. This does reinforce the need to add a big bat or 2 in the OF however.
  11. Have to think Wagner is going the other way and maybe one of the other infield prospects since they don't really have a spot on the roster now. Maybe Horowitz.
  12. He's a good player and under team control but considering hes a weak hitting elite defender it is seemingly a weird fit for the roster. I wonder if he moves over to SS, which I'm sure he could play pretty well. Scared what they gave up though.
  13. Basically just a way to get around California state taxes. If his primary residence is in a state like Florida, Texas, Arizona etc the signing bonus is taxed there instead of California which has like a 12-14% tax rate.
  14. Certified PTW
  15. He's probably a guy with more top 15 potential than a true top 5-7 Superstar. If he takes a another leap and can be more consistent especially with his shot I guess he could be a top 10 guy. It kind of is true though that you need one of those top 5 players to win a championship. But if you look at the last 15 years tanking hasn't resulted in any championships. You are likely better off developing talent and then making a trade to get a superstar than tearing everything down to try to get a top pick.
  16. Lol Soto would have to want to come here/Jays overpay by a massive amount. No chance he leaves New York.
  17. That looks like the foundation of a 75 win team honestly. I mean sure if they added Burnes, Chapman, Pederson and a couple good relievers they would be pretty good but I don't see that happening since Jays will have to overpay for FA. The pitching depth looks super thin to a rotation that is going to be a year older with more wear and tear on it too. I don't even think Swanson should be tendered a contract at this point.
  18. Sad to see Trout's career go the way of Griffey's. At this point I'm not sure he's even a lock to get to 100 career WAR (at 85 right now). He should probably just move to DH and play LF every now and then to save his legs. Still a great hitter obviously but all these injuries taking a toll.
  19. So how do you see the org. pitching depth being better next year compared to as it was coming into this season then? Coming into this season even Mitch White looked like he could be a viable 6th SP same with Francis. And then you had Tiedemann plus a bunch of other guys who had helium. The majority of the team's pitching prospects have either been bad this year or have gotten hurt (with them being unavailable for the majority of next season as well). And this doesn't even include the fact that the team had coming into this year had a legit staff and bullpen. They are going to have to find 2 SP and as many as 5 bullpen arms in the offseason which will be a tough task.
  20. Well Tatis had 546 PA that year where Witt has 477 heading into tonight so they're closer in playing time at the moment. And their offensive production in wOBA for those years is pretty similar, with Tatis doing it at a younger age. My point was more its easy to get caught up in a young player having success. Injuries/variance happens so while its easy to dream on a hall of fame career lets pump the brakes a bit lol.
  21. Hmm guess you didn’t understand I was saying a joke. Do you go to a comedy show and yell out against a comedian saying their statements aren’t 100% factual too lol.
  22. lol Jays are like a box of chocolates because when it gets hot out the team will melt. Lmao
  23. And then Bo, Vladdy and Bassit leave as FA and you will have to rebuild anyways. Sure they will have money to spend but without young impact position players its tough to fill that many holes in FA.
  24. Maybe for pitching you can get more for a rental than a full season but I can't see it for position players. Front offices now are so analytical they will calculate the value based on a full season versus 2 months. Also there is a ton of risk in holding players, don't have to look back far to see how badly they f***ed up with Donaldson. I think you have to make a decision in the offseason about extending or trading both Vladdy and Bo and pick a path. Even if the team wins 87 games and makes the wildcard, losing Bo and Vladdy for nothing would be tough to come back from. Then going into 2026 you're left with a mid-high 70s win team and a ton of holes.
  25. I would say Manoah coming into this year was better than both, same with Tiedemann. Not to mention the rotation is very likely will be worse going into next year.
