  1. A Nimmala breakout + they need to absolutely nail the top 5 pick they are going to get in 2025. Then you might have the start of the system turning around.
  2. So far the market looks very player friendly in terms of AAV’s. Will make it more difficult for the Jays to fix holes via free agency if they are on a strict payroll, even if it is $50M available to add pieces. I’m guessing there will be a trade or two for an arb eligible player on a more reasonable projected 2025 number (ex. Bohm, Ward, etc).
  3. There’s no way to speed the off season up without a salary cap, and the MLBPA will never agree to one unless there’s like a 1-2 year lockout or something, so have to just take the slow build for what it is. Manfred has mostly been cooking with the rule changes, I think the game is in a much better place now than it was 5 years ago, but adding weird gimmicks is not what is needed.
  4. Passan is using BREAKING way too liberally. Baseball fans are dying for news. Don't play with us like that, Jeff. Not for a Tommy Edman extension.
  5. The much bigger issue two years from now will be what happens to league revenue with the regional sports networks folding. Manfred apparently wants to consolidate the local rights for as many teams as possible and make them national (ex. selling the rights to Amazon Prime, or ESPN, or whoever) but if he can't do that in time for the next round of CBA talks, or if that approach isn't as lucrative as the outdated local cable model, then we will start to see more chirping from owners (the small market ones). Personally I don't even think the deferral system will be a talking point. Deferrals happened well before the Dodgers recently, and an Ohtani situation will never happen again. He's the only global star baseball has, so he can make $2m a year and get way more in endorsements annually while he plays. Other players won't have that luxury.
  6. Yeah this rule isn’t exclusive to the Dodgers. Every MLB team is free to do it. The Dodgers just have star players that want to play for them and are willing to defer money while other teams likely don’t have that kind of impact with players. I don’t see this as a big CBA issue. If the Jays gave Vlad $500m and deferred the hell out of it, then it would be the same thing, though Vlad would have to agree to that. They should probably try something like that.
  7. There's very little chance Soto defers money, so I don't see him going to the Dodgers.
  8. Good for Kikuchi. Opting out of that Seattle deal 3 years ago basically led to ~$100 million (Jays deal plus this one). Of course not sure if congratulations are in order any time someone signs with the Angels but get your money where you can get it.
  9. I’d much rather give Soto $700m+ than sign Bregman, Adames, etc. Give me the elite talent (at age 26!) all day. With that said, the Mets not only have Cohen but also have an enormous amount of money coming off their books. If he’s not a Met, I’d be shocked.
  10. Sounds like the Rays new stadium plan for 2028 is in real jeopardy. The Rays moving out of St. Pete/Tampa and into a market that might actually give a s*** about them would be the best case scenario.
  11. On the bright side if the Rays end up making the playoffs in 2025, then they might actually sell out their home stadium. But yes, the Rays should have been relocated.
  12. I doubt Jansen signs anywhere to be a backup, unless he has absolutely zero market as a starter, which I guess is possible but would be a bit surprising.
  13. Realistically, he's going to get $30M in his final year of arb. That AAV alone on a 12 year deal (for example) would be $360m. If his AAV ask is more in the $35-40m range, then his overall ask is likely more than $400m at this point, and he's likely wiling to wait for what Soto gets to determine how much more he thinks he can get.
  14. Time for Atkins to trade for Nootbaar.
  15. Yeah, I could believe Vlad turning down the Jays latest offer, but no chance he's traded before the season.
  16. I'm sure the Jays aren't avoiding qualified FA's, but Santander and Walker are a lot less desirable now with the QO attached. I don't think the Jays were going to be in on Teo anyway, but good for him to get that extra bit of security. He earned it.
  17. I didn't realize Cole was already 34. Giving him 5/180 at his age is a pretty big risk. I think the Yankees will end up doing it though.
  18. For Griffin Canning.
  19. This was a fun post season. Congrats to Teoscar for getting a ring. Now time for some Blue Jays news.
  20. Looks like Game 5 tomorrow night. At least push this to Game 6 so we could have a few more days of baseball this season.
  21. Morosi still getting air time on Canadian TV/media is insane given the Ohtani situation.
  22. I've heard baseball talked about more in the last week than I have in many years, whether it be in the national media or from the guys at the gym, at work, etc. Even if this ends up being a sweep, it was no where near the worst WS. Manfred still got what he wanted, just not the long series that everyone expected it to be. I'd take this over last year's snooze fest any day of the week. Hopefully the Yankees can at least extend this to go back to LA. I'm looking forward to Jays transactions but give me some good baseball for a few more days.
  23. Game 1 was an all timer, but this would be really disappointing if it ends in 4 or 5. It's a bullpen game tomorrow for the Dodgers, and then if the Yankees can survive that then it's Cole in Game 5, so maybe there's an outside chance of this at least going 6, but I'd be shocked at this point if it doesn't end by Wednesday. Sucks.
