  1. According to BNS, the Santander talks "picked up this morning", so presumably right around the time the Straw trade happened. To play devil's advocate, maybe the Straw trade wasn't to entice Sasaki specifically as much as it was an attempt to recoup a pick(s) that they will lose in the event that they sign a qualified FA or two. I'm trying here, guys.
  2. Legit wouldn't be surprised if the Jays gave him 5/100 now.
  3. Who are/were the Jays going to sign with their international money prior to this Sasaki stuff? Not sure if they've lost any of the ones they had agreements with. Are there are good international players available that they could use the $2M on? Someone give me some damn optimism. I have to watch Myles Straw play baseball now. I want some good news.
  4. Roki and the Dodgers having a deal well in advance would be the least surprising thing ever, but the fact that Ross fell for the fake interest just makes me sad.
  5. The embarrassment of this Sasaki ordeal, especially with absorbing the contract of one of the worst players in the sport, might lead to the desperation many of us were expecting from this front office. It's going to get ugly.
  6. Atkins just absorbed Cleveland's worst contracts when he's probably months away from getting fired. Just food for thought.
  7. For me it wasn't believing Roki was signing here, but rather me trying to rationalize the Straw trade. Like, how does that trade make any sense if they didn't have an agreement with Sasaki? If the Jays were going to turn around and trade Vlad in order to start the rebuild, then it would make more sense, but this is a team that's going to be tax payers in order to try to compete in 2025. Just strange all the way around.
  8. Even Passan feels our pain.
  9. If they reallocate the $2M to 1 or 2 interesting international players, then yeah, they used their money to add to the farm system, so that's a win, especially for a team with a bottom 10 system. Not sure I'd want to have $5M less to spend on the big league roster in 2025 when the goal is to contend, but competing is a pipe dream anyway in all likelihood, so probably won't make a difference.
  10. Predictable ending but the Straw trade made me believe slightly. I didn’t think any team would absorb $11M for one of the worst players in baseball on a pipe dream. Atkins is built different I guess.
  11. I suggest people double and triple check the accounts you are reading on social media. It's a cesspool for a reason. Or just follow Passan and wait for the BREAKING.
  12. Jeff Passan and Robert Murray are the only good ones. Passan is obviously the gold standard, only posts when there is actual news, never posts clickbait. Everyone else are engagement vultures who aim for views and followers. That's what MLB media has come to. Morosi isn't the exception, he's the norm.
  13. Is that really a good thing with the Jays current player development track record?
  14. Yeah this is a move you make when Roki gives you a heads up that he wants to sign. If this is a move made with zero indication that Sasaki is willing to sign with you, then even with CLE eating money it’s questionable. Straw legitimately sucks, and he’s going to hurt the team on the field (defense aside). On top of that this org has been pretty suspect with international signings lately + development in general, so not sure having more of it will make a big difference. Hopefully, Ross knows what he’s doing here.
  15. This better mean Roki is coming to Toronto because we are probably staring at the reality of Straw starting a bunch in CF until Varsho gets back.
  16. In a gut wrenching type of way. It will be the Dodgers, unfortunately. It was always going to be the Dodgers. But I guess Jays fans haven't gotten kicked in the nuts enough the past few years with these types of things, so add another to the list.
  17. So Sasaski is either going to shock the entire baseball world or do the most predictable thing ever.
  18. Shapiro in 2016: “In some ways they’re just another form of a player option which I think are ridiculous. You’ll never see us do a player option.” Granted, he's given out a player option since then to Berrios, but that contract was structured for the options to be in years 6 and 7 of the deal, so they locked up 4 of his FA years. The market has changed since 2016, so maybe that combined with what looks like a one year window at best (unless Roki saves us) makes him change his thinking, but giving a 2-3 WAR 1B/DH $30M a year with the ability to opt out after one year seems like the least Shapiro/Atkins thing ever. That's even factoring the loss of a draft pick, which in 2025 will be high.
  19. Wow I was sure that Alonso would stay with the Mets, but if it's true that the Mets have moved on, then it's hard to see a fit for Pete. The Jays might be able to swoop in here. Although if Pete wants a multiple opt out short term deal like all Boras clients want, then not sure if Shapiro goes there.
  20. This all sounds like nonsense from the Mets and Boras both trying to use the media to create leverage against each other.
  21. Reality is, no one except Sasaki knows anything. MLB winters are so boring that content is hard to come by. Combine that with social media and the quest for engagement, and we are going to see a lot of BS floating around. Better to just wait for Passan to report it, even though waiting sucks. So far the Jays have not been announced as being out, and they haven’t used their international money yet, so for those who are dreaming, you still can.
  22. I have tried, but I can't think of one logical reason why Sasaki would choose the Jays over the Dodgers or Padres, so I'm not getting my hopes up. It's just odd that of the 3 teams left, 2 are in California with strong chances to compete for a title and the other is in Canada coming off a last place finish. Roki would have to really love the org, the city/country, or both.
