    Looks like no Jimi or Hoffman today, which isn't a bad idea given how often they've been used, so would be nice to win a close game without having to use those two.

    My guess is he's waiting for Varsho to come back, which doesn't explain why he doesn't just swap Gimenez and Springer now that George is actually hitting, but I try to avoid getting into John Schneider's head for my own sanity.

So it was reported a few weeks ago that Barger was told by the org to do things offensively last year that he wasn't comfortable with, then Davis Schneider said he was focusing on hitting singles last season instead of trying to do damage, and now this with Springer. Don Mattingly, hitting coach from hell, should be studied.

    I mean, 2024 Vlad on the 2023 team would have made them pretty decent even with their flaws. The Jays need to bank on something like that. Basically the 2023 team except Vlad and Bo hit like stars at the same time. Only time that's happened since they came up is 2021. Definitely agree they need more though. If nothing else at least a starting 3B. Not sure where that comes from though.

    For better or worse this team is going to mimic the 2023 team. As long as it leads to a post season berth that's fine, but chicks definitely won't be digging this team. Pitching, defense, and singles (lots of singles) will be the formula.

    Yeah Green isn't good anymore. Hoffman-Garcia-Little-Sandlin is probably the depth chart.

    At least the Jays worked the pitch count up in that inning. Man, what a helpless feeling it must be to be facing another team's ace and having Kirk on the bases. The Jays need multiple hits in order to score anyway, but definitely when Kirk is the lead runner.

    104.4 mph double by Roden followed by some good base running. All we had to do was call him out.

    Barger about to go 3-4 with 3 opposite field singles averaging 89 mph.

    Yeah I think Clase is an interesting prospect. Not sure there's a high probability of him panning out, but there's power + speed + CF in his profile, and he's still young. That's far more intriguing as a lotto ticket than the 25-26 year old platoon bats in the system. Unfortunately as you said he's someone with maybe some untapped power potential coming into an organization that probably prefers the slap hitting profile he's shown in AAA this season, so not sure if it's the best fit for him to reach his offensive ceiling.

    He's been on the 40 man roster for what feels like 10 years and he still has an option remaining, so yeah he was probably like "I'm getting MLB money for as long as I can get it".

    Alan Roden's statcast page right now is disgusting. Ranks between 1-8 percentile in xwOBA, xBA, xSLG, Avg EV, barrel %, hard hit %, and LA sweet spot. On top of well below average bat speed. It's still very early, and he's obviously getting his first taste of the big leagues, but he's not young, and I believe there were concerns about a lot of those things (quality of contact) in the minors. Wagner hasn't been quite as bad from a statcast standpoint, but still pretty bad. If the Jays are still in it at the deadline then I think they probably need 2 bats, one at 3B (definitely) and another at DH/OF (unless Roden turns things around).

    The Easton Lucas 30 for 30 put on hold for now.

    Yeah there's a real possibility Scherzer doesn't pitch again from the looks of it. Not sure if he'd consider trying to come out of the pen every few days but if that flares up every time he starts and gets to around 50 pitches or so, then the chances of him starting again seem really low. (B)Easton Lucas being this year's Bowden Francis went from a nice outcome to a necessity at this point. There really isn't much dependable SP depth otherwise.

    Bad lineup + Lucas on the mound part III. Too bad the Jays aren't facing the other team's best SP this time around.
