  1. The Jays should get Wren, although he will want to be paid in dollars, which is more than Rogers would offer.
  2. Baseball's dip in popularity goes beyond lack of playoff spots.
  3. I'm rooting for the Royals, only to see some fresh blood make it, but I can't see them finishing better than Oakland, Detroit, and Seattle. If they collapse out of a playoff spot, that would be far more painful to their fanbase than what the Jays did to us. At least the Jays had the decency to collapse with enough time left in the season to temper expectations early. The Royals being in a playoff spot up to the final week before blowing it would be terrible for the only franchise with a longer playoff drought than the Jays.
  4. I'm hoping for it. At the very least, a below .500 record spells the end for Gibbons. Alex's fate is probably tied with Beeston's regardless of record, but if Alex stays and the team finishes below .500, then I can't see Gibbons coming back.
  5. Fire Gibbons, slash payroll for a few years, then bring him back when the payroll mysteriously jumps by $30M in one off-season. Let's keep the tradition going.
  6. Reyes getting over 600 plate appearances this season is an accomplishment in itself.
  7. The Dodgers have a lot of expendable players we could use. That's why I think that's a perfect spot to trade Reyes while absorbing Ethier's deal. Throw in a Guerrero, or Van Slyke, etc, type and it will add depth to the team. Not sure they'd want Navarro again, but if they do, that would work as well.
  8. The Fister trade was bad, but otherwise he is generally pretty good.
  9. I think the Dodgers and one of their OF's is the best bet as far as trading Reyes. Kemp's contract is too long, so Ethier makes more sense. See if the Dodgers would tack something on to make it worthwhile for the Jays (Zach Lee? Alex Guerrero?) and call it a deal. The Jays could probably get someone like Cliff Pennington for a very little as a stop-gap SS in case they miss out on a free agent or can't trade for a better SS.
  10. Dombrowski is a smart guy. I think he'd rather have Iglesias play short than pay Reyes $22M per, especially when he has to replace Scherzer and Martinez. I'm wondering if the Mets would take Reyes back. Something like Reyes for Colon and Tejada (simply a salary dump with no regard for talent coming back). The Mets have been surprisingly cheap since Alderson took over, so maybe not, but they did pay Granderson all that dough that off-season.
  11. I don't think it is fair to group Bautista and Edwin with Reyes. This season, Bautista has played 1B and CF. Edwin volunteered to play LF (and failed miserably at it). The only guy who has never moved from his position is Reyes, and that's pretty damn telling.
  12. Reyes is only going to get worse. I don't see how bringing everyone back accomplishes anything.
  13. I don't mind if Melky leaves, but Pillar better not be the starting LF if he does. I'd rather give Melky a contract similar to Robinson Cano's than ever see Pillar start another game. I'm only half kidding.
  14. Hypothetically if you trade Reyes for salary relief, you can overpay for one of the SS on the market. I'm sure 4/52 would be a competitive offer for JJ Hardy, for example, and if he won't come for then bump it up a bit. Every team has to overpay free agents. Getting rid of Reyes allows an overpayment. Of course I don't expect a team to take Reyes without giving a salary back.
  15. I'd bet the Dodgers would, but the Jays would likely have to take Ethier back. Since the Jays need a LF'er anyway, it would solve one problem while creating another, but I truly believe Reyes is going to be an albatross by next season.
  16. The Jays are crazy if they think new turf is going to help make Reyes a better fielder. If he doesn't want to switch positions, then trade him. He's not going to get better defensively, and his offense will likely dip as well. What a disaster.
  17. Yes he did a good job with Stroman, but they are letting Hutchison throw 180-190 innings his first full season back from Tommy John Surgery, which shows a complete lack of foresight. In fact, it shows a sign of carelessness. The lineups and depth in general are terrible. Alex has done nothing to keep his job. He probably will for one more season at least, but he's just as deserving of a firing as Gibby is. In fact, probably moreso, since everyone knew Gibbons was terrible six years ago (the first time got fired for pissing away a Rogers spending spree).
  18. I want Alex and Gibbons fired after this season. The lineups and managing has been atrocious. As if they don't give a s*** that they are within striking distance of a playoff spot for the first time in 20 years.
  19. Well, Yost's team is actually overachieving. Gibby's teams are always playing below expectations, and in a good year they are .500. He's terrible.
  20. Royals losing too. s***, I hate the Jays.
  21. If Reyes is unwilling to move, trade him. Might have to take back a s***** contract but at least they wouldn't be hamstrung by one player's stubbornness. Use Melky's money to sign JJ Hardy and trade Reyes for Ethier and Guerrero.
  22. Isn't Hutchison a Super Two?
  23. Yeah, right. Like Alex or Gibbons have the guts to tell Reyes he is going to be benched more often.
  24. Gibbons is a .500 manager with the team's best rosters in the last 15 years (2006-08, 2013-14). It's not a coincidence. Why they keep going to him is baffling to me.
  25. True, the Royals put a high premium on defense. Happ seems like the type of starter they would value, but whether they'd move Dyson for him, I'm not sure.
