    Between acquiring Travis and Martin, this has the makings of AA's best off-season if he is finally understanding the concept of value and using free agency as a way to acquire talent. Still a long way to go and he still has plenty of time to mess up, but keeping prospects + making the playoffs should be the goal. So far, so good.

    Yep. It's all about adding wins/value wherever they can. Martin over Navarro is a good start. Someone like Headley (who I think will sign with the Giants now but whatever) would be a 3 win improvement over Izturis/Goins. Liriano would be a one win improvement over Happ, and so on. You start to increase value throughout the lineup and it will add up. As long as AA does not start trading prospects for veterans then the chance of filling holes internally with young high upside talent will still be there even if they go for it.

    Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Sanchez, but his value should be higher than Bruce's.

    Agreed. Martin is a very good player and was a very sensible signing, but he was never the missing piece. More work needs to be done, regardless of what else Boston does. No need to make any panic type moves. Just keep adding good/great players where possible. Can't control what other teams do.

    Yep, it's time to get Lester and trade for Saunders.

    Trade Reyes and a prospect for Matt Kemp and then add a real SS. Hanley's value had to go down because of his defense, that's all I can think of. That's a very good deal for such a good hitter. If SS's who can't play defense are declining in value that much, dump Reyes where you can. Come on Friedman, do us a favor.

    Why trade Lind if you're going to trade for Jaso? I guess he can back-up Martin as well as DH, but he's not a good defensive catcher and his skill is exactly the same as the guy you traded a month ago. They can hopefully do better.

    If the Red Sox are signing Hanley to play SS and Panda to play 3B, then I'm not sure what they are doing.

    I will never forget Law saying that Zach Stewart had a front of the rotation upside when most people knew he was destined for the pen even when he was a top prospect (and he even failed at that). If Law says something about a prospect, I usually expect the opposite. When he called Devon Travis a non-prospect, I was thrilled.

    Whether the suspension was justified or not, Keith Law is a douche.

    Yep that was my thought when I read that quote. If the Jays keep Dickey and add Liriano, that's a pretty solid 5 man unit., although don't really know what you're going to get with Liriano most years.

    Yeah not spending money in June or July 2014 when the team had like a 50% chance of making the playoffs was just bad business by Rogers. Deciding to spend it now when the probability of the playoffs is unknown instead of five months ago makes no sense.

    Martin and Molina on the same team would be a framing dream. Make it happen. Molina is slow as hell and can't hit, but if he's only going to play once or twice a week, it won't be that big of a deal in comparison to Thole.

    I read he is looking for 3-4 years and $12M per. I think 3/36 would be reasonable for him, but I'd rather pay more for a 200 IP workhorse (Shields, Lester). With Liriano you really don't know what you are getting year to year, and he's not an innings eater.

    Hochevar is repped by Boras. Which means he won't be a Blue Jay. Crain makes the most sense (Canadian, a reliever, Canadian, potential buy low, and he is also from Canada).

    That's my guess as well. Maybe Dickey to a 3rd team (since he's a "clubhouse cancer" and all) to help facilitate it, and Hamels will waive his NTC if the team that acquires him guarantees his 2019 option, which judging by the Martin contract, AA will have no problem doing.

    Sign Shields for the money they are offering Sandoval, and trade Dickey, Happ, and Navarro for help in LF, 1B/DH, and the bullpen.

    I'd rather trade Sanchez for one of the Cubs infielders.

    My guess is Saunders as well. Buck will be even more obnoxious than usual with four Canadians in the lineup.

    If he has another typical season for him he'd be worth the qualifying offer. Is any team going to give up a pick for him? Maybe, but the QO might increase the chances of him returning.

    If they trade Dickey, they better have a 200 IP back up plan.
