  1. Does anyone find it a bit strange that ever since this rumor started in December that the Jays have done nothing? The off-season has died thanks to Eddie and his stupidity.
  2. Rosenthal bringing the logic, as always. Why hasn't this died yet? I mean, someone come out and say talks are done and everyone is moving on. Please!? The longer this drags, the more it seems like Rogers is going to do something stupid. Just stop and walk away I miss Interbrew.
  3. That's from Elliot's latest article. Trading Hoffman when the alternative is losing what amounts to a slap on the wrist for tampering would be beyond stupid. Take the tampering charge, pay the money, and leave the Blue Jays alone, Edward you ignorant fool!
  4. I don't mean reasonable as in good. I mean reasonable as in they overpaid in prospects for a player they expected to contribute at a significantly high level on the field. Compared to trade for an executive, it's apples and oranges. Duquette has no impact on the field at all.
  5. Why do people keep bringing up Dickey? He was the reigning Cy Young winner and someone the team expected to help them on the field. It was perfectly realistic for AA (or anyone) to give up top prospects for him. Trading a similar package for an executive would be unheard of, and probably the dumbest thing any sports franchise has ever done when you combine it with the tampering. There is no comparison. Syndergaard and TDA for Dickey was a perfectly reasonable overpay. Stupid move, maybe, but reasonable in that they were getting someone expected to add wins. Duquette is a completely different animal.
  6. Why wouldn't Rosenthal report it if he heard it from a reliable source? He's the most credible baseball reporter out there. If he heard what Buster Olney seems to think is reality, then surely he would have said something whether he hated the Orioles or not.
  7. Again, not a word from Rosenthal yet. It's columnists from Toronto and Baltimore regurgitating Buster freakin' Olney's speculation. If Hoffman (or any top prospect for that matter) is traded for DD, then I'm not making the trek down to Toronto to see them Opening Night like I planned to. They don't deserve any money if they do something that stupid.
  8. I love how this Orioles fan is clearly a troll and yet people still respond to him. Ignore is a nice feature.
  9. Agreed. I actually think Duquette would be a good fit for the Jays simply because he is a baseball guy, and one with a track record. When you are run by a corporation, having a baseball guy in the president spot is far more appealing. Beeston is not a baseball guy and is stuck in the 80's. Duquette knows how to build a good team and farm system. He's still not worth giving up a prospect for, though. He's just an executive.
  10. Notice how idiots like Olney and Bowden are chiming in, but not a peep from Rosenthal? There is a reason for that. Wait until Kenny says something, then we will know a bit more. The only thing Toronto media knows how to do is Retweet other journalists.
  11. As God as my witness, if Hoffman is traded for Duquette, I am no longer a Jays fan. The last 22 years have been miserable enough. This would be the icing on the cake. I could live with overpaying a Major Leaguer, but an executive? f*** you, Rogers.
  12. Olney's tweet just said Hoffman was "discussed" (not involved), and secondly, Olney is a hack.
  13. No way it's Hoffman. If it's even a top 20 prospect in the Jays system, then Ed Rogers can EAD.
  14. Eh, he's better than Goins and Izturis. If he comes cheap, go for it. Just don't expect a long-term solution. Dude looks like a headcase with his history.
  15. Gose is better than some give him credit for, but that was a no brainer trade if I've ever seen one. Travis is projected to have a 96 wRC+ without setting foot in AAA yet and fills a huge organizational need. You make that trade 10 times out of 10, even though I think Gose is capable of a 2 WAR with his defense and speed.
  16. As a starter, there's no chance barring a huge miracle. As a reliever, might be his best shot, but that's still asking a lot from a guy who hasn't been able to do well in the minors over the last two years.
  17. If Goins started working out with Barry, and showed up to Spring Training with 30 HR power and an oversized head, I'd approve.
  18. If the Jays signed Everth Cabrera, and he put up a 3 WAR in 2015, do you keep him or trade him the following winter? If you keep him, then I completely disagree with you. Players like that, you get whatever value you can, and then cut bait. I'm not even using hindsight. I wanted the Jays to trade Rasmus last winter, and I was fully on board with the Lawrie+prospects for Donaldson swap that the Moogster suggested prior to the off-season (still can't believe it actually happened). Like I said, it's not always the case, as some times players just need a change of scenary, but in the case of the players AA acquired for 50 cents on the dollar....there were clearly reasons they were available for that cheap. And we're seeing why. You don't count on them. You get value, and then sell high.
  19. Different kind of the same problem. Lawrie was a douche with self-entitlement issues the moment he was acquired (see his quotes during his Brewers days). Rasmus wasn't the same type of headache (his issues were allegedly with coachability, his father, etc), but he was traded for way less than he was worth by an organization that churns out quality talent via their system every year. Yunel fits the same category (allegedly a bad teammate in Atlanta, attitude issues, etc). Now in some cases it could be management portraying the player that way rather than reality, but in the case of these three, I think it's pretty clear there were issues with them. There is a reason these guys were acquired for very little relatively speaking (Marcum was a good starter for a couple of years). Like I said, Rasmus should have been traded last winter. His BB:K rate was bad, he benefitted from a high BABIP, and he has a history of inconsistent performance. What happened with him in 2014 was entirely predictable.
  20. Rasmus is a perfect example of why it's smarter to sell high on head cases rather than depend on them. Trading Lawrie when they did was smart. Beane will get one or two good seasons out of him and then trade him before he has to count on him in expensive years. Jays didn't learn from Yunel and Rasmus, but luckily they did with Lawrie. Acquiring guys like that for little is great value but you need to know when to cut bait. I was pleading to trade Rasmus last winter yet AA counted on him, and he got burned.
  21. Johan or Sanchez: who is the better starter in 2015?
  22. To be fair, Duquette built three really good teams. Granted, the Orioles seem to overplay their talent level every year, but they still made the playoffs twice in three years. Then there was the 90's Expos and late-90's Red Sox. Obviously, none of that really matters since he'd be hired as the team president, not the GM (unless he fires AA and takes the role himself), so yes, the "DD or nothing" stance seems odd. Can't deny his success in the game, though.
  23. Strasburg has two years of control left. They'd want Toronto's entire farm system in return, and they'd be justified in asking for it. The only Nats pitcher who makes sense for the Jays (i.e. he's cheap as hell) is Roark, but I'd think they'd keep him and trade one of the impending FA's instead.
  24. If Shields is lowering his demands to 4/70-80, then I'd assume many teams would be in on him, not just Toronto. Maybe Kenny wants to troll us a bit while the off-season is slow.
  25. What's stopping the Jays from signing Shields, seeing what happens in 2015/16, and then trading guys like Shields and Reyes in 2017 to save money? They may have to eat some salary, but it's not like that's not an option.
