  1. I was never on the Sanchez bandwagon, but now that Law has endorsed him, I've officially given up on him. Law has a horrendous track record with Jays prospects. The fact that he hates Travis makes me like Travis even more.
  2. Agreed. Norris and Sanchez should be in AAA and Estrada should be the fifth starter and Hendriks the swing man. They want to compensate for doing jack s*** to fix the pen, but Sanchez really needs to learn how to get minor league hitters out before they can expect him to do it against big leaguers (30 inning sample aside).
  3. The fact that Johan did not sign with an NL team or a team in a pitcher's park surprises me. Either the interest wasn't there for him or the Jays offered him the best chance of making a big league rotation. Wouldn't surprise me if they want Johan to win the #5 spot so they can put both Sanchez and Estrada in the pen, but that has to be the longest of long shots at this point. If Santana can make it to mid-March without hurting himself it would be more than I expect. But still, no risk signing. Can't complain. Maybe the baseball god's sacrificed Saunders to give us Santana's resurgence. Okay, I'm trying to look on the bright side here.
  4. Does Johan start or come out of the pen? No risk signing. Can't hurt to see if he has anything left.
  5. Valencia in LF is pointless. Pillar is a better option than him. My fear is Valencia in LF, Navarro at DH, and Edwin at 1B. Like I said, the way this team operated last season, they'll play video game lineups to avoid spending money.
  6. Last season this team played Juan Francisco at 3B. I shudder to think what creative plans they have to cover injuries this year.
  7. One thing I definitely won't miss if AA is gone is his inability to even care about depth, much less try to acquire it. He has been like this since he was hired and will never change.
  8. I was thinking of Alex Guerrero as well. His bat looks legit but he's probably not an infielder. Stick him in LF and watch him hit. Only problem is dealing with Friedman.
  9. Venable makes the most sense but he makes over 4m. Jays will have to trade Navarro first and then make a trade with SD.
  10. Koskie: got hurt and traded Lawrie: injury prone every year Saunders: injured in February before even playing a ST game Martin isn't really Canadian, right? Right??
  11. Pillar always struck me as an overachiever type who will play well above his talent level, but no way i would feel comfortable with him starting in LF. They have to make a trade.
  12. Navarro for Venable? Not sure if the Padres need a catcher since I lost track of all their moves.
  13. Damnit. I guess Dickerson/Pillar is the only option now.
  14. Best Scenario: Estrada #5 starter, Norris and Sanchez both starting in AAA. Second best scenario: Sanchez #5 starter, Estrada long man, and Norris in AAA. Most likely scenario: Estrada #5 starter, Sanchez in the pen, and Norris in AAA. Worst scenario: Norris #5 starter, Sanchez and Estrada in the bullpen. ---> Depth becomes non-existent
  15. No way the Jays would have been on that list a year ago today. Getting the WAR machine in Donaldson and the elite pitch framer in Martin this winter likely boosted them on that list. AA would have been on the bottom of that list in Feb 2014.
  16. AA doesn't do incentives so we had no shot at Joba. AA mentioned on PTS that he was in on signing a reliever prior to the Winter Meetings but that reliever had two other teams he preferred and went with one of them. I wonder who that was.
  17. Even before now. i think Graveman will end up being a decent MLB starter. I never thought that about Nolin.
  18. I think Graveman is far more likely to be a MLB starter than Nolin anyway.
  19. My 2015 prediction for Sanchez: he'll begin the season in the big league pen, pitch well below expectations, get demoted, and subsequently stretched out where he'll rejoin the team late in the year as a starting option.
  20. Right-handed J.A. Happ. Solid #5 option, and he can slide to the swing man role without complaining should Norris break down the door mid-season.
  21. Career 97 wRC+ in the Majors and good defensive OF. That's solid depth as a 4th OF or AAA OF who can come up in case of need. The Jays needed some insurance of Pompey struggling and/or Saunders getting hurt, and they've done a decent job considering they can't spend any money.
  22. Sanchez as high walk totals and declining K rates. That's not a good combo. He's more valuable to us as a trade chip.
  23. Between Dickerson, Pillar, and Carrera, the Jays have some decent depth for the OF. That's not including Dirks, but since he has back issues I'm going to hold off on expecting anything. Just keep adding depth, AA. The rotation could still use some.
  24. Don't count out Ricky Romero either.
