  1. Well, it's probably easier getting Zobrist from Beane than it would have been getting him from the Rays, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Damn, Zobrist in this lineup would be incredible.
  2. The A's don't look bad at all. If their SP stays healthy, they have a shot. At least it makes an AL East team a lot worse.
  3. Sanchez is Brandon League with worse command (in the minors at least). If the Rays would do Zobrist for Sanchez, then you do it and run.
  4. Absolutely, but depends on what the + is. Any chance trading Sanchez to a 3rd team for one of their top prospects and then flipping that prospect for Zobrist? Sanchez does not seem like a Rays type of pitcher.
  5. Pastornicky looked like he had potential in 2011, but it's been a steep decline since then. I'm not sure he'd be much of an upgrade, but as minor league depth, why not?
  6. The whole point of trading Lind was to free up DH for Edwin and to periodically rest Bautista and Reyes during the season. Start Edwin at DH, Smoak/Valencia at 1B, and trade Navarro's contract to any team willing to take him.
  7. I'd rather have Smoak at 1B than Navarro at DH, so I hope they don't keep him around. I think trading him for simply salary relief would be justifiable. Either Alex is holding out for a real return or there are simply no takers. I could buy the latter. Navarro is not very good.
  8. Drew graded out very poorly defensively at 2B last season and that is where the Yankees intend to play him. He's still a good buy low by the Yanks, but unless he learns how to field 2B at a high level, a lot will depend on his inconsistent bat.
  9. I thought, and still feel, that Sanchez will start the year in the rotation, but AA doing absolutely nothing with the pen gives him a logical reason to start Sanchez in the bullpen with Norris in the rotation. That's fine if all the starters stay healthy all season, but in that scenario, the depth starters are Estrada, Hendriks, Francis, and Oramas. That's not pretty, and Sanchez isn't even a guarantee to be a good reliever next season.
  10. In football you can beat your wife, abuse your kids, take PED's, etc, and still be celebrated. In baseball, if you take PED's, you're the scum of the earth.
  11. Chris Martin was DFA by the Rockies. You know the drill, Alex.
  12. Yep. If Buster says it, expect the opposite.
  13. I think AA's bullpen construction is fine. Sure it would be nice to add another sure thing in the pen to go with Cecil and Loup, but he likely does not have a lot of money left to spend and thanks to the Royals the market for relievers is very expensive. Between Lopez, Guilmet, Jenkins, Rasmussen, Schultz, Tepera, Delabar, Drabek, Redmond, Infante, etc, I'm sure there is a combination of that group that can form a solid bullpen. Not to mention the off-season is still young so there is time to sign or trade for more help. Adding wins is most important. Bullpens are so volatile year to year that it's easier to add wins elsewhere since other positions are more predictable.
  14. Norris as #5 starter and Sanchez in AAA (starting) would be the best option, internally. At least then you'd be going with the guy who has a performance track record as a starter, rather than taking a monumental gamble with Sanchez. The depth at #5 starter is most likely (in order): Sanchez/Norris (#5 starter), Estrada, Hendriks, Francis, and Oramas.
  15. As long as hitters are making weak contact and putting the ball on the ground, then Sanchez shouldn't be terrible, but his walk rate has to improve. If he's still walking 5 per 9 and then depending on a defense with Jose Reyes in it to bail him out, then he's going to be a burden out there.
  16. Wow, what could the Jays have given up for those two? Could have completely changed the complexion of the bullpen. Although, the Jays don't have an overrated NY hyped prospect to peddle off.
  17. Ricciardi really made things harder for AA's. At least Ash, one of the top 5 worst GM's ever IMO, left the team with some good prospects. Pretty much the entire 2000's were wasted because of JPR's drafting.
  18. Yes, change many things from the past (Marlins trade, Dickey trade, Cabrera signing, Izturis signing, etc), and everything else will remain the same. Man, I hope people don't actually believe their fantasy lineups if those 2013 moves didn't happen.
  19. AA has traded Syndergaard, Lawrie, d'Arnaud, etc. I'm sure he would trade Sanchez if he felt the return was worthy. Whether he would do it for a one year rental is another story. He seems like a GM who is big on years of control, so I can't see him trading Sanchez for Zobrist (even though it would be a great deal for the Jays).
  20. Sanchez for Zobrist. Put Estrada in the rotation, Redmond as the long man, and Norris as the 1st call up.
  21. With AA's newfound appreciated of WAR, I think we all know where Zobrist will end up. (I'm dreaming, don't wake me up yet).
  22. The Rays have signed Asdrubal. Zobrist being traded seems all but assured now, as no team will ever put Cabrera at short.
  23. That whisper Stoeten heard must have been the voices in his head.
  24. Am I the only one who thinks Drabek can be a good reliever? I mean, he was trash as a starter, but most good relievers are failed starters.
  25. Eh, I like Lopez in the pen, and I would give Drabek every chance possible to win a bullpen spot out of Spring Training (I still think he can be a contributor in relief), but the others are iffy to me (others meaning everyone other than Cecil and Loup). Still, throw enough solid arms in there, and someone is bound to surprise.
