  1. If Alex promotes players as rapidly as he did last season, they may have more internal options by mid-season, but yes after trading Graveman and Nolin the depth is not very strong. If Estrada can be an effective swing man, that would help a lot.
  2. I think Sanchez will start. I can't see them finding a better starting option in free agency or trade (unless they go after Hamels), and putting Norris in the rotation and Sanchez in the pen pretty much eliminates any SP depth the team has. IMO, Sanchez will start, Estrada will be his insurance, and Norris will be the first guy called up from AAA. The question is which relievers will AA be able to acquire to fill out the pen.
  3. I'm surprised. I thought for sure it would have happened by now. There's still time. I'm glad it hasn't happened yet, though. AA has changed. He's looking for real upgrades now (Martin, Donaldson, Saunders, Travis, etc), rather than settling for mediocrity or veterans who can't play but provide "dat leadership intangible".
  4. Smoak is starting at 1B with Edwin at DH. I see no reason to change that for Navarro (although if they can find a better 1B than Smoak, then make the change). If Navarro is still on the team Opening Day, then he'll likely back-up Martin.
  5. Alvarez, Walker, Kang, and Harrison looks like a damn good infield.
  6. Andrew wants to give the inevitable Nick Punto signing more hype than it deserves.
  7. Man, if there was any way to pry Kazmir from there, he would fit in so nicely over Sanchez in the rotation.
  8. I'm going to guess the Padres won the bid for Kang. It's been a few hours since they made a move, way too long without doing something, so it would make sense.
  9. He has options left. Solid depth move. Jays need arms to replace Nolin and Graveman.
  10. The Yankees are starting to make some smart moves. Damn.
  11. Catchers are being traded left and right. Either AA is sleeping or he is asking for way too much.
  12. They'll play Middlebroks at short, based on what they did with their OF. That's one team that gives no shits about defense.
  13. Marcus Stroman for Dan Duquette. Steal.
  14. Myers playing CF. Yeah, that doesn't have disaster written all over it at all.
  15. It would have been cool if Steamer was an actual name. Like, Steamer Jones, or something.
  16. Dave Stewart - the overvalue® Randall Delgado - the target. Make it happen, AA.
  17. It would be nice if the Jays got someone like RJ Alvarez in return for Navarro. I'm not holding my breath, though.
  18. Extending Romero and Morrow before he had to turned out to be a disaster for AA.
  19. AA mentioning interest in a free agent outright is pretty rare. He could have tap danced around the question like he does for every other question he is asked but he didn't. Hopefully that means it's close to happening. I don't want Izturis/Goins starting at 2B.
  20. I think the issue here is that AA did all of his off-season moves in a span of like a week in November, and some fans are taking the subsequent inactivity as him not doing anything. He added one of the best players in baseball for far less than it should have taken, added an elite catcher/framer in free agency, traded for a long-term 2B option with six years of control who Steamer thinks can be a league average hitter already, and traded for an OF who might be able to outproduce Melky for $11M less annually. I agree the team needs another starter, and at least one reliever, but it's only December, and every team is going to have a hole here and there. At the end of the day, AA added wins, and that's really all he can do.
  21. Delabar has four years of control left and was a very good reliever prior to 2014. He makes next to nothing next season. I'm not sure why he can't be a pen option. Drabek is another one with four years of control left and can be pretty much filed under "failed starter" now, so give him a chance as well. I know that's hoping for a lot of good things to happen, but they are reasonable gambles to take.
  22. Capuano gets 1 year, $5 million from the Yankees. The pitching market is not cheap this winter. Sanchez in the rotation seems like a pretty safe bet at this point.
  23. Morrow's best chance to succeed as a starter is in San Diego so smart move by him. I still think he's a reliever at this point in his career, though.
  24. Since AA is said to have interest in Beckham seemingly every off-season, I'm expecting it to happen eventually.
  25. Come on AA, bring in Toritani.
