  1. Has a closer by committee ever worked?
  2. Donaldson's throwing plus the uncertainty of Reyes defensively makes it absolutely crazy to have Edwin play 1B when Smoak/Valencia (or Barton if he goes h.a.m and makes the team) can play 1B.
  3. Gibby sounds like he's describing a woman he met at a bar at 3 a.m. that he knew he'd regret hooking up with.
  4. I really hope Smoak pans out.
  5. Do people forget that Bautista and Encarnacion could draw walks and do other things well before they broke out? They weren't these hacking scrubs who just had a light switch turn on for them. They actually had talent. Viciedo has raw power, but he'd have to learn how to be a good hitter in order for that power to mean anything. Edwin and Bats did other things well before the power came on in their late-20's.
  6. Yeah, sucks about his life post-baseball, but the guy has another year of arbitration left before hitting free agency. He's going to want to get as much bank as possible before his body gives out on him. Tough spot.
  7. Yeah, I never understood AA's stance against incentives. If the player doesn't perform, he doesn't get paid. If he performs, he gets what he's worth. It gives the player some motivation and basically costs the team no additional cost if the player fails. It's about time AA signed someone with incentives attached. As long as it's not vesting options and things like that, it's fine.
  8. AA's power hitter fetish still exists. It took a backseat to his off-season of WAR-love, but he still has the itch.
  9. “The stuff was still good in the winter,” Anthopoulos said. “The changeup’s still there. He’s a great competitor, a great athlete. And it’s a minor-league deal, so we really don’t have anything to lose.” The change up being there is good, but what about the fastball?
  10. Any chance he can pitch in relief? I like his chances of becoming a reliever a lot more than a starter, although either one is unlikely.
  11. I was never on the Sanchez bandwagon, but now that Law has endorsed him, I've officially given up on him. Law has a horrendous track record with Jays prospects. The fact that he hates Travis makes me like Travis even more.
  12. Agreed. Norris and Sanchez should be in AAA and Estrada should be the fifth starter and Hendriks the swing man. They want to compensate for doing jack s*** to fix the pen, but Sanchez really needs to learn how to get minor league hitters out before they can expect him to do it against big leaguers (30 inning sample aside).
  13. The fact that Johan did not sign with an NL team or a team in a pitcher's park surprises me. Either the interest wasn't there for him or the Jays offered him the best chance of making a big league rotation. Wouldn't surprise me if they want Johan to win the #5 spot so they can put both Sanchez and Estrada in the pen, but that has to be the longest of long shots at this point. If Santana can make it to mid-March without hurting himself it would be more than I expect. But still, no risk signing. Can't complain. Maybe the baseball god's sacrificed Saunders to give us Santana's resurgence. Okay, I'm trying to look on the bright side here.
  14. Does Johan start or come out of the pen? No risk signing. Can't hurt to see if he has anything left.
  15. Valencia in LF is pointless. Pillar is a better option than him. My fear is Valencia in LF, Navarro at DH, and Edwin at 1B. Like I said, the way this team operated last season, they'll play video game lineups to avoid spending money.
  16. Last season this team played Juan Francisco at 3B. I shudder to think what creative plans they have to cover injuries this year.
  17. One thing I definitely won't miss if AA is gone is his inability to even care about depth, much less try to acquire it. He has been like this since he was hired and will never change.
  18. I was thinking of Alex Guerrero as well. His bat looks legit but he's probably not an infielder. Stick him in LF and watch him hit. Only problem is dealing with Friedman.
  19. Venable makes the most sense but he makes over 4m. Jays will have to trade Navarro first and then make a trade with SD.
  20. Koskie: got hurt and traded Lawrie: injury prone every year Saunders: injured in February before even playing a ST game Martin isn't really Canadian, right? Right??
  21. Pillar always struck me as an overachiever type who will play well above his talent level, but no way i would feel comfortable with him starting in LF. They have to make a trade.
  22. Navarro for Venable? Not sure if the Padres need a catcher since I lost track of all their moves.
  23. Damnit. I guess Dickerson/Pillar is the only option now.
