I think it's mostly because the team went out and acquired two star position players but did nothing for the rotation or pen except minor league deals and waiver claims. The organization always goes half in, never any sense of urgency despite the playoff drought and miserable fans dying to see a winner.
Yep, AA's roster management is horrendous, and I expect no different this season. We just have to wait and see what it is. It could be using Castro out of the pen, or going with 8 relievers to save a fringe pitcher with no options left, or going with 3 catchers because he adores Navarro too much to trade him, etc.
I don't expect Wolf to actually start the season in the bigs though, unless more bad things happen to the rotation.
No such thing as a bad minor league deal. I just think it's funny the Jays have signed Santana, Francis, and now Wolf. That's a lot of shots in the dark. Would have been nice to trade for Bolsinger or someone with some upside, but this is the spot we are in.
It was such a long time ago that I thiught I may have been misremembering, but Stewart was in fact in the running for Jays GM in 2001 before they hired Ricciardi. They picked JP because he was white.

True but young pitchers get hurt so frequently that you shouldn't count on too many of them if you want to contend. Stroman and Hutchison with three veterans was a decent mix. Now it's two veterans, Hutchison, and two complete wild cards (Norris and Sanchez most likely). If one or both struggle or get hurt, it will be a huge blow to the team's already dwindling chances.
I'd much rather have a vet there to bridge the gap.
I'm legit surprised he's not being talked about as a rotation option right now. A 4/5 tandem of Estrada and Hendriks isn't going to light the world on fire but might be the best internal option available depending on whether you want to keep Norris down until May for service time reasons.
Wheeler needing TJS is why I don't like the idea of trying to compete with a young rotation. One or two more Dickey/Buehrle types would be great in the rotation right now, rather than praying Sanchez and Norris 1) stay healthy and 2) contribute right away.
Estrada should be in the rotation for that reason alone. Young pitchers should be depth.
Read some of your own material. You'll read things far "dummer".
And 42 is way too young to be spending your life on a message board. go outside. Do something.
He could still get TJS and miss another full season. Is that a hard f***ing concept? I spelled it out for you in another post. That is far more likely an injury for a pitcher than an ACL issue, and something pitchers may have to get eventually anyway. The succes rate of coming back from one TJS is pretty good. The ACL is a freak injury that rarely happens. Nowhe is rehabbing a leg injury and you have to hope he doesn't overcompensate his mechanics or anything else due to it.
If you think I'm actually hoping he gets TJS, then you're more of an idiot than I originally guessed. Or "dumm", as you like to post as if it has even a tiny bit of humor to it.
I can't believe I'm saying this about Liam Hendriks, but the Jays can't afford to lose him given the lack of depth on this team. If they are confident he can pass through waivers, then do it, but otherwise, he's someone I can see a team in need of a pitcher claiming.
Cecil, Loup, Lopez, Delabar, Redmond, Estrada, Hynes/Francis (or another LHR)
If AA is on stupid pills, then put Castro in place of one of the guys above, but I'm still thinking sanity prevails on that front.
