Man, this could have been a sweep, but I'll take 2 out of 3 in that ballpark, especially after the nightmare that park seems to be for the Jays this time of year. Now take 2 of 3 from the Mariners, and go from there.

Yep. The Jays were leading the 2nd wild card last year on July 31st and by the end of the season they finished behind 4 teams in the race for the 2nd WC. The Wild Card race will sort itself out by the end of the season. The division is what the Jays need to go after, even though I don't expect the Yankees to let up. With some 13 games remaining against them, that should be the goal. The WC is what the Jays should "settle" for....even though after 22 years without a playoff spot that would look like the holy grail at this point.

The 2nd WC looks far more attainable. It looks like it will be a battle between Minnesota, Toronto, Detroit, Baltimore, and Tampa. All those teams, including the Jays, are mediocre. It's winnable. Depends on what AA adds at the deadline, if anything.

Well, Smoak is historically better against rhp, so benching him against a lefty is fine. Of course, that doesn't explain Sling Blade's lineup last night against a righty.
