If Donaldson was hit on purpose, then I'd understand. He was hit accidentally by a young pitcher who was probably aiming for the middle of the plate when he threw that pitch given how bad his control was. It happens. There was no need to protect your teammate in that case.
I mentioned the Rangers because in their minds, they did the right thing by standing up for Dyson getting embarrassed by the Bat Flip, and Odor for standing up for himself when Bautista made a deliberately hard slide. You can't have it both ways.
That's why I think baseball rules and old school thinking should be extinct. If somebody (whether it was Happ, Gibbons, or whoever) was willing to take that chance given where the Jays are in the standings and how much every win is worth right now, then you know old baseball unwritten BS has gotten out of hand.
