  1. Yeah I am looking at the Cards as well. They have a lot of OF's. Grichuk kinda fits what the Jays looked at with Smoak with his batted ball profile. Wouldn't surprise me if they tried for him. What do the Cards need, relief pitching? Maybe sell high on someone like Tepera. No clue what it would take, but the team needs to pull something out of their ass to fix the OF and free agency doesn't look very appealing.
  2. I don't know if he would have gotten three years, but I think he would have gotten at least two if he tested free agency for a similar AAV to what he signed for. Jays got a great deal here.
  3. Yeah I wouldn't count on Sanchez for 2018. Dude basically lost an entire season to a blister. He needs to prove he can avoid that moving forward before I have faith in him.
  4. Yeah there are some players who want to maximize every dollar, and can't blame them for that, but Estrada clearly values comfort in this case, and it's not like he's not being compensated well at $13mm. Just a matter of how much he may have given up compared to what he could have gotten on the market, but he obviously doesn't care. 1/13 is fair. They weren't going to get a comparable starter for that much.
  5. It's 1/13 apparently. Nice. Dude took a small pay cut and avoided free agency to sign a one year deal. Either he wasn't optimistic about his market this winter or he really wanted to stay in Toronto.
  6. I mentioned 1/15 because I don't know why he would sign a one year deal without testing the market first. I'm assuming he's going to make around the same as he did this year which would give him some incentive to do it. If he took a pay cut for one year, then I won't complain.
  7. I'm ok with 1/15. It's basically what he made this year. A one year deal is awesome either way. A team option tacked on to it would be nice too.
  8. Yeah if it's one year that seems odd for Estrada to do unless it's something like 1/15. Regardless good to have him back. I don't agree with avoiding a rebuild but if they are going for it, then might as well load up on deals that end after 2018 so they can start fresh after that.
  9. Everything that happened to Jose after his 2016 spring training comments about his contract demands has been almost like every bit of karma coming back to bite him. Gets injured multiple times in a contract year, becomes a meme for life with one punch, has his worst season since his breakout, goes to free agency and has no takers, comes back to the Jays with his tail tucked between his legs and settles for essentially a one year deal, then proceeds to completely s*** the bed to the point where he'll be lucky to get a big league contract for next year. Like, that's every worst case scenario for him wrapped up in 18 months. Great player at his peak though.
  10. Find someone blocked on another team and use them as the utility infielder. Someone like Tony Kemp or Profar. Goins can EAD.
  11. I read that at the deadline the Jays were asking about Grichuk. Might have been nothing, but he hits the ball hard, hits a lot of flyballs and line drives, but just strike outs a s*** ton. Seems to fit what the Jays look for and maybe could fix like they did with Smoak. Cards have excess outfielders. Maybe there's a match.
  12. He won't get more than one year so there's a chance. Depends on how much he likes the Jays org.
  13. I hate you *******s for getting my hopes up for Otani now. I know it isn't happening but dammit now I think there's a chance. If Shapiro pulls this off.....
  14. The tank taking a break to f*** with the O's is fine with me.
  15. Speaking of Royals free agents, Lorenzo Cain would make sense for the Jays, but I'm sure he'll get paid a s*** ton. Likely way more than the Jays would be willing to offer. He's a better player than Fowler and the jays were interested in him, so i'm sure they will kick tires but ultimately miss out/pass when the price gets too big. Would be a good fit in right, though.
  16. Hernandez is turning 25 soon and has spent a bunch of time in AAA. Pompey was fast tracked to the bigs at 21 and then handed a starting spot because AA didn't know what depth was. If Teoscar starts in the OF in '18, then Alford, Pompey (if he's still alive), and someone like Davis or Fields or Ceciliani or whoever will be in the Buffalo OF. The depth there is actually pretty decent. Just start Hernandez and sign or trade for a more established outfielder to play the other corner. Puts less pressure on Teoscar and adds even more depth.
  17. Yeah I agree with this. You can live with Teoscar's growing pains as long as they go out and get a LF/RF (whichever corner Hernandez doesn't play) in trade or free agency. Jays need to start having some young cheap position players on the roster. Hernandez doesn't need more AAA time. He's ready. Whether he turns out to be any good or not is the question.
  18. Teoscar, yes. Urena, no.
  19. Dayton Moore having a soft spot for Kendrys enough to take the 2/23 he has left on his deal would be wonderful.
  20. Look at Gonzalez's minor league numbers, especially age 21 in AAA.
  21. Not now, but a year from now if another young option presents itself? Why not? If he bounces back in 2018, then that's a different story, but if he's still trash, then better to just cut your losses.
  22. If Tulo continues to suck, then he's going to be released, most likely. No team is going to trade talent for him or take his contract, so just cut your losses.
  23. I thought AA's best skill was risk taking. Some times it worked against him, but I don't think any other GM pulls off the Donaldson trade other than him. With this front office, we probably won't see another JD type of trade, but we also won't see Thor pitching somewhere else. It's the trade off for super risky vs. conservative. With that said, still glad he is gone. At least I don't have to worry about Vlad or Bo being traded for Joey Votto or Stanton now.
  24. If they don't rebuild, and it looks like they won't, then just keep doing what they have been doing the last two years. Small/short free agent signings to plug some holes on the roster. If they are in the race next July then trade some meaningless prospects for immediate help (like they did in '16) or if they are out of it, then sell at the deadline again like they did this year. Extending Donaldson for anything beyond 4 years would be foolish, and he's not going to settle for anything when all he has to do is wait a year and be on the open market. It's not going to happen. That's why trading him now is the best solution, but I guess backdooring into the WC next year is a possibility given how bad the AL is beyond the top 4 teams, so they'll try for that first.
