  1. Cronyism in baseball (and sports in general) will always exist. That's the only reason I can think of why certain managers get so many opportunities.
  2. I think they'll end up picking up the option. $12m is nothing in baseball today, even by cheap ass Cleveland standards. But if they decline the option, then I'd be down for Brantley on a one year deal. The AAA outfield will probably be some combination of Alford, Teoscar (if he doesn't make the team), Pompey, Smith, etc. There's enough there to cover for Brantley's inevitable DL stint. It's not like Travis/Tulo where there's no depth at all.
  3. Very true. I wonder if the Yankees are grooming their parking attendant, born in the Bronx, to take over for Cashman down the road. If Shapiro ran that team, that wouldn't be possible, and it would be a travesty.
  4. "Beeston grew up in Welland, Ont. Ash grew up in central Toronto. Had Mark Shapiro been in charge of the Blue Jays in the early years, you probably wouldn’t know the names Beeston or Ash. They wouldn’t exist. They would not have been given the opportunity to flourish." Ash not existing would have been awesome. I literally stopped reading after that quote. Ash being given an opportunity to flourish f***ed this org for a decade.
  5. Man the Yanks are going to be good for a long damn time. Have to hope Dumbrowski f***s the Red Sox sooner rather than later.
  6. The Yanks actually give me hope. The Jays look like they are not going to rebuild any time soon, and the Yankees are an example of a team who avoided a rebuild on purpose and still came away with a great young team. That 2015 team that hosted the WC game had one starting position player under the age of 30 (Didi). Now look at them. The Yankees are not the enemy, they are the blue print.
  7. The Yankees are built the way the Jays want to build their team. Don't know why people hate them. I mean, I get it, it's the freaking Yankees, but the team itself is built around drafting and great trades. In fact, they've made an effort to purposely go below the lux tax, so they are not even buying talent anymore. It's straight up good GM'ing by Cashman. I wouldn't mind the Yankees making the WS. Just lose to the Dodgers.
  8. Kinda of like last year's ALCS where the Jays were outscored 12-8 yet lost the series in five games.
  9. Isn't McGuire an elite defender, or at least very good at catcher? If his bat is for real then I would have to think he's a top prospect. I mean, he's only 22 and did well in AA despite being injured for most of the year. Really depends on whether he made an adjustment of some sort that got his bat going or it is just a small sample hot streak. His K/BB has always been good. It's just that he had Josh Thole levels of non existent power.
  10. Farrell's assessment of AA's Jays was spot on. His assessment also aligns with Shapiro's on player development, which isn't surprising since he was in player development for Cleveland when Shapiro was GM there. I don't want Farrell back in this org at all, but just because he is a s***** manager it doesn't mean he can't help the org in other ways. But yeah, there are younger and better minds out there to use in that spot over someone who the fanbase in Toronto justifiably hates. Maybe one of the interns they want to hire for $3/hr will prove to be better in that role.
  11. They worked together in Cleveland when Shapiro was GM. I knew those rumors would start.
  12. Matt Vasgersian needs to be the lead baseball guy over Joe Buck. His calls are always good and he gets genuinely excited in big moments, while Buck's sound bytes are beyond forgettable.
  13. Good to know the Jays are not ignoring the strike out rate. Hopefully he can cut that down back to normal (25% or so) while maintaining the power uptick. Could be a pretty decent player if that happens.
  14. Predicting decline for an injury prone player in his 30's is pretty reasonable. Even at the time of the trade it was clear the Jays were getting Tulo's twilight. It was just a matter of how many good years he had left before he fell off.
  15. Girardi pulled CC too early last game and it cost him. 3 straight singles and a run in for Cleveland. Wonder how Joe plays it.
  16. Dumbrowski is going to cripple that farm system and just add more bloated contracts to compensate for it. Exactly what he did in Detroit until he couldn't do it anymore. He's lucky he was left with such a good crop of young position players that might buy him some time before he inevitably F's them up. Cashman is building the right way, which is bad news for the Jays.
  17. Didn't Farrell work in player development for Cleveland when Shapiro was the GM? Just warning you guys in case he joins the org in a different capacity. Don't think he will though. The way he left kind of left a mark.
  18. Well the story said she removed all pics of them together on her social media, and she hasn't, so at least that part of the story is false. I'm sure players do stuff on the side, but JD would be a fool to lower his standards. If he's grabbing chicks on the road way hotter than the one he's dating, then understandable, but being horny should have limits. As far as Jackie, I think she's attractive. You guys are being rough here. Does she look like the girl at the bar who goes back to your place after one drink? Yes, but maybe that's part of her appeal. Just wrap it up.
  19. 1. Trade for Profar and put Travis/Tulo on a rotating schedule where each player gets at least two days off a week. Should give Profar a ton of AB's. Either he sinks or swims. 2. Sign Jarrod Dyson to a two year deal, start him in left. Put Pearce in LF against lefties, and otherwise share DH between Kendrys and Pearce. 3. Trade for Randal Grichuk, start him in right (dude is going to blow up soon with the juiced ball, just put him at RC for half his games) 4. Sign Alex Cobb to a three year deal. Reach for those 2nd wild card dreams.
  20. Briana Miller's instagram still has pictures of her and JD. That's likely a false story. JD has a hot GF and is a year away from getting paid. He ain't messing that up.
  21. Loup for $1.8m is fine. Koehler is definitely a non tender. Bring him back on a cheaper deal. Goins will be in this org longer than Stroman. I've come to accept that fact. He has three more years of arb left, and the Jays will keep him for all three, but he'll get a Johnny Mac style cheapo extension that keeps him here beyond 2020 just to infuriate us.
  22. The baseball god's want Yankees/Red Sox, and are going to make sure we get it.
  23. Gibby 2.0 (after the new regime took over) is fine. Could be better, but isn't hurting the team. If this was Gibby 1.0, the dude we saw in 2015 turn a 100+ win caliber team into a team that would have missed the playoffs without mid season farm system detonating, then absolutely go after Girardi. As of now, it wouldn't make a difference.
  24. Baseball needs more bat flips. Keep doing your thing Harper.
  25. Wow. Torreyes comes in to pinch run and within 30 seconds is picked off. Brutal.
