  1. Not now, but a year from now if another young option presents itself? Why not? If he bounces back in 2018, then that's a different story, but if he's still trash, then better to just cut your losses.
  2. If Tulo continues to suck, then he's going to be released, most likely. No team is going to trade talent for him or take his contract, so just cut your losses.
  3. I thought AA's best skill was risk taking. Some times it worked against him, but I don't think any other GM pulls off the Donaldson trade other than him. With this front office, we probably won't see another JD type of trade, but we also won't see Thor pitching somewhere else. It's the trade off for super risky vs. conservative. With that said, still glad he is gone. At least I don't have to worry about Vlad or Bo being traded for Joey Votto or Stanton now.
  4. If they don't rebuild, and it looks like they won't, then just keep doing what they have been doing the last two years. Small/short free agent signings to plug some holes on the roster. If they are in the race next July then trade some meaningless prospects for immediate help (like they did in '16) or if they are out of it, then sell at the deadline again like they did this year. Extending Donaldson for anything beyond 4 years would be foolish, and he's not going to settle for anything when all he has to do is wait a year and be on the open market. It's not going to happen. That's why trading him now is the best solution, but I guess backdooring into the WC next year is a possibility given how bad the AL is beyond the top 4 teams, so they'll try for that first.
  5. Teams are smarter now. They will look at FIP and WAR over blown saves and ERA. Should have traded him at the deadline in hindsight, but he will probably still have value in the winter. Waiting until next trade deadline could be risky. He's already seen a velocity dip, combined with anxiety issues. Trade him this winter and maybe you can still get a Juan Soto type plus others.
  6. Sell high. Teams that aren't good don't need closers, and Osuna having three years of control left makes him a more attractive trade chip.
  7. I don't think they will get into specific player decisions, but even team direction is going to hurt us. The Jays have a real opportunity to set the stage for the 2019, 2020, etc, roster by trading JD, Osuna, Happ, and others for players who can come up the same time as their other top prospects, but if they are stuck having to fake a contender to keep ticket sales up, then it's going to hurt. If they want to fake a contender while trading JD/Osuna/Happ, then be my damn guest. I don't care if they want to fool the casual fan into buying tickets. As long as they don't fall back into the 1995-2014 trap.
  8. Yeah it's basically the Mike Trout Angels of the past few years. That's my fear with 2018. Shapkins are going to need one hell of an off season to put this team back into the 85-90 win projection next year.
  9. Hope you're right, though I don't think anyone gives up a haul for one year of JD. Still rather trade him than watch him put up a 6-7 war season on a .500 team and then leave. I fear Rogers is already driving team direction.
  10. That is from Heyman's latest article. Aside from the derp about the Jays not being far out of the race this year (if you call never being .500 and having one of the worst run differentials in baseball being close), not all that surprising considering who owns this team. Rogers wants dat cash. Although I wonder what a deal that improves 2018 even looks like. No team is going to trade any good existing players for one year of Donaldson as it would hurt their own ability to compete. It would have to be a Gord Ash type of trade then, something where the Jays are taking back vets to keep chugging along the .500 mark while the other team is getting the best player in the deal. No thanks.
  11. Just in general, the position players this front office has acquired have been really, really bad defensively. Even the good defensive players like Pearce have been asked to play out of position to completely negate their value on D. I forgot to add Salty who makes Montero look like Martin by comparison. For an org that looks at advanced stats, WAR, etc, it's puzzling that they keep going after bad defensive players, and I say that as a huge fan of this front office.
  12. Between Morales, Pearce, Bautista, Montero, and Refsynder, has Shapkins completely forgot about defence this season? Their other moves involved extending Smoak, who typically isn't a good defensive player, and almost trading for Jay Bruce who is typically a s*** defender. I guess Upton and Barney should count.
  13. This season has been too long so might as well make individual games last an eternity too.
  14. Trade Osuna and put Ramirez at closer. In that scenario, are the Jays really that much worse? Osuna putting up another 3 war is asking a lot, and relievers flame out just as quickly as they shine most of the time. Drop in velocity, already had a tjs, good fip...I say move him. Teams are smarter nowadays, they might look at the secondary numbers over the ERA/BS and still give up value. Sell high on somebody for once.
  15. Blow the game Osuna so you don't kill the rest of the pen with overwork. You know Ramirez will throw 2 innings again.
  16. That DL stint that ate some some service clock is probably the reason if that's the case. Either that or no playing time. Maybe both. Is it official that he's not coming up?
  17. Boston: racism and cheating. That should be on a t-shirt.
  18. Sure, but damn this season has been long and agonizing as it is. At least Urena and Teoscar don't have the 2017 stench on them, and are actually below 25 years old unlike practically anyone else on the team.
  19. Teoscar and Urena on the bench. Pass.
  20. Let's be real here, this regime won't be trading real prospects any time soon. They might not be untouchable, but realistically, they won't be traded. With the August/Sept JD has had, it makes sense to trade him this winter, but the definition of insanity has to come into play here with Rogers. I would like to see the Jays end up like Cardinals teams who could lose players to free agency and not miss a beat. Like they lost Pujols and still went to the playoffs four straight years after that. If the Jays could make the playoffs in 2018, then place Vlad Da God at 3B in '19 and keep winning (obviously rest of the roster has to be improved), then that would be all kinds of awesome. That's not realistic though. If they don't trade JD then they better have one hell of an off season.
  21. Goins is a vetrin now. It would be insulting to hand his spot to a rook even for a game, even though he's a better 2b than short stop, and Urena is a better short stop than 2b. /Gibby logic. I can't wait until 2017 is over. Too many god damn derpy moments and bad baseball all around.
  22. Man is it good to have young players to watch now in Hernandez, Urena, and Ramirez. This season has felt like it has lasted an eternity. At least the last month will have some new faces.
  23. Vlad is going to cause more boners in the GTA than Viagra. The hype is real folks.
