I don't think this front office is giving any free agent a contract greater than three years except international talent (Gurriel types). This free agent market is ass, so we might actually see some trades to patch holes this winter.

Dyson, Nunez, and Mikolas from that list. I'd also be interested in Chatwood if the price is reasonable, but the lack of QO might make him more attractive so I'm figuring he will be priced out of the Jays range. Cobb is qualified so he won't be on the radar. Shapiro hates free agency and he has said as much to the media. I think he'll go with short term deals, and the names I mentioned above will probably require two years tops, which is a safe number. The only FA i see this regime going bonkers for it Otani, but that doesn't appear too likely to happen.

Nah dude, this is the Orioles. They'll sign three s***** starters and somehow be leading the division in July with a negative run differential. I'm done trying to figure those bastards out.

Yeah, I don't think Tellez will be taken, and even if he is, I doubt he will stick a whole season with another team. A no field, no speed 1B who has to hit in order to have any value coming off the type of season he had in AAA is not going to get a full time gig or a bench gig in the Majors in 2018.

Nah, service time. I'll predict he gets called up mid-2019 (when the super 2 cut off ends). Jays know they have a gold mine here. They won't mess with his service clock.

Goins will be on the 25 man roster ten years from now, I am almost sure of that, so he's probably safe. Refsynder is definitely gone. I like the pick up too. Can't hurt.

If the cost is a 2nd round pick and $500,000 from the int'l pool, then I don't see Shapiro wasting that on Cobb. The qualifying offer probably means the Jays will look elsewhere. The problem is there isn't too much else out there. Maybe Chatwood?

Cobb getting the qualifying offer from the Rays. No longer lose a first for signing a qualified FA but still lose a pick (3rd round, I think).

Yeah, Tanaka's elbow could go at any moment. Was kind of hoping he opted out and the Yanks signed him to a longer deal, but Cashman is smart now, so that was never happening.

Nah, I trust this front office, I just don't believe Rogers will give them full autonomy for direction of the team. Losing JD for nothing in hopes of getting a wild card spot one for season seems like a very short sighted move, especially since they have no one realistically ready to replace him in 2019 (unless Vladdy goes god mode in '18 and reaches the bigs). I mean if they get a WC spot and end up going to the ALDS, then I'll take it since playoff baseball is awesome, but it's still Rogers looking at bottom line over what is best for the team long term.

I don't think they can do enough to turn the 2018 team into a division contender, but a 2nd wild card contender, possibly. I'm not sure that's even worth keeping JD for a toss up game on the road but Rogers gon Rogers. They don't realize that fans tuned out for two decades watching a mediocre but not terrible product and no one wants to see that type of s*** again.

I don't think Nunez can play short anymore either. He's more of a 2B/3B type now. If they give Kemp some reps at 3B to increase his versatility, then he's likely a decent utility option. But yes, ideally you'd want an infielder who can play short as well. Profar is probably a better fit then. Trying to think of young players who have either disappointed or are blocked. That's where the Jays need to be looking, imo.

I like Tony Kemp and Profar as trade targets. No way Kemp has any future with the Stros as he's not overtaking anyone on their current infield or their utility infielder (damn the Stros are loaded!). I'd rather have him than Nunez to be honest.

I don't think Nunez will sign with a team to be a back up. If the Jays gave him an everyday 2B job then I could see it (then slide him over to 3B in 2019 when JD bounces). I mean, being the utility infielder for the Jays basically is a starting spot given how broken Travis and Tulo are every year, but you would have to sell players on that, and I'm not sure it will work with anyone half decent. If the Jays want a Zobrist type, then they are going to have to identify one before he turns into a Zobrist type. So find some blocked/underachieving-but-talented young player on another team and pour some high performance department magic on them. Find a Jean Segura pre-2016 type somewhere who needs a chance of scenery.

Stanton is owed close to 300 million over the next 10 years. He hits a ton of hard contact, but no way he's going to be this good for most of that deal. I don't see the Jays allowing Jansen or McGuire to go, and I don't think either one will be Martin's back up either, so I'm going to guess they go with four catchers.

Wouldn't be surprised if we see a small trade or two to clean up some of the log jam.

Was rooting for Houston so glad they won. With that said, I have been ready for the off season to start for like 4 months now due to how bad the Jays were, so let's go.

Gordon is coming off a good season but is risky due to being a BABIP/speed guy. Still might be worth a shot if it costs nothing to get him since Travis is sure to miss a large chunk of the season again and having Ryan f'n Goins eating up 450 plate appearances as the backup is something no one should ever be subjected to again. Damn, just saw Sogard re-signed with the Brewers for a year (at a cheap price). They better damn well trade for a utility infielder.

As someone who hates the NFL (in general, not for the political nonsense going on), that's great news. I want baseball to prosper again. If it takes juiced balls, so be it.

Say what you want about the juiced balls, but it's going to help baseball. Games like that are what can attract fans.

Yes that would be an example. I vaguely remember the Tigers trying Travis in the outfield because they had no room for him at 2B. Good on AA for taking advantage of that. The Astros are in a similar spot with Kemp (probably won't have much value away from 2B) so I think a deal is doable there. I guess Teoscar falls into my example as well as he was blocked in Houston also. I just don't want to see another season where the team's depth is all replacement level s***. There has to be upside somewhere, go find it.

Well yeah, more Hicks than Didi. The Yankees got Hicks for a s***** back up catcher. In the 3 way deal for Didi, the DBacks got Ray from the Tigers who has been damn good so I doubt they regret the move, but the net result for the Yankees was Greene out and Didi in. I don't think it was that expensive, even if you bought in to Greene's 2015 numbers. More value given up than in the Hicks deal, definitely. I guess my point is, don't be afraid to make these kinds of moves. Maybe you can trade someone like Tepera/Barnes/Leone right now for someone another team doesn't value or is blocked. Maybe you get lucky and that player blossoms with some high performance dept magic. Jays need to try something this year. They can't go into next year with limited depth again, as we saw what happened.
