There is no way Atkins didn't see this coming. He endorses this s***. He has to. Gibby 2.0 (2016-beyond) was way more analytical than this, and they fired him for a man who is the same age but manages like it's 1973. All while taking out the franchise player in a 1-1 game in the 9th when he's on 1st with 1 out and could conceivably have to bat again if it goes to extra innings.
This thread will reach 100 pages pretty damn soon.
Yeah, I figured he'd get traded to the Astros and suddenly become a #1 starter by doing that, but thankfully he's done it in Toronto. I always wanted to extend him, but now it has to be done. He's going to have a great year if he stays healthy.
The only thing I can think of is the team doesn't want Vlad to run the bases in that moment because of concerns about getting hurt in a rundown or from having to run from 1st to potentially 3rd or home.
Otherwise I am at a loss for why Vlad was taken out today.
This is a bandwagon city, at least when it comes to baseball. They won't care about seeing Vlad after this weekend. The novelty will have worn off. They will be back when the team is in a playoff race, and even then they might wait until after the team makes the playoffs to start selling the place out again. It will be a process.
I have no idea why Vlad was taken out there unless he’s still not 100%. He was on 1st with one out.
How old is Ned Yost? I’m just going to assume him and Montoyo either grew up together or are actually related. I like that theory better than actually trying to place logic in some of these decisions.
I've been on the extend Stro train since the winter. The market is making re signing your own players more logical now and Stro is actually good + wants to stay.
Make it happen Shatkins. You just signed a "play the game the right way" anti bat flip good old boy in Grichuk. Might as well counter balance that with Stro's personality.
With Alford s***ing the bed in AAA, and Jonathan Davis being a logical call up in place of F'n Brito at some point, having Revere there is good insurance.
I'm starting to think so too. Shapiro hired Eric Wedge to manage the Indians. Now Atkins hires Montoyo. These guys for whatever reason seem to like the non sabermetric types.
The fact that I even have to ask this question scares the crap out of me, but what if Tellez lead off the 9th inning, and hit a double. Vlad would be up with a runner on 2nd and 0 out.
Does Buntoyo bunt in that situation?
