  1. Hoping the Angels can take one of the WC spots. Trout needs to be in the playoffs for the betterment of the game. He's been out of the spotlight way too long.
  2. Doesn't surprise me. Atkins and the Astros GM seem to have a good relationship (lots of trades between the two), and Stroman seems like someone who would go to the Astros, make a minor tweak, and within a few days become a 2.00 ERA starter. Always saw them as a realistic destination for Stro. Buy low on Josh James (stretch him out to replace Stro in the rotation, 5 more years of control) and tack on some prospects from there.
  3. Vlad's only 20. I expected him to come in and be a beast right away too but it doesn't always happen like that. I'm not worried. I do wish they'd move him off 3B soon though. He'll hit enough to still be elite at 1B. The bat will be more important than any defensive value he will ever provide. Nothing wrong with having him at third this year since the team sucks, but long term I hope the plan is to shift him over.
  4. I usually go to Baseball Reference as they have service time, expected first year of arb, and expected free agency year. But yeah it would be nice for everything to be in one place.
  5. Yeah trading with Cashman would be suicide. Atkins is not on his level. It will be bad. Better than the Happ return, but still bad. The key is to find a team that is desperate to make the playoffs due to either a long playoff drought or a GM with his job on the line. The Padres would be a great trading partner if they stay in it. The Phillies will be desperate after signing Harper as they are falling off now after a good start. The Twins might be willing to trade prospects to capitalize on their window this year. I'm sure there are more that I'm missing. The two teams Atkins seems to do ok with in trades is the Cardinals (Woodman for Diaz, Greene/Leone for Grichuk) and Astros (Liriano for Teoscar, Osuna for Giles/Paulino/Perez, Diaz for Thornton). No major wins there but solid trades overall. Both those teams, unlike Cashman, don't mind trading good prospects in trades. Long story short, there are enough teams not named the Yankees to make trades with.
  6. I agree with all of that. I think Gurriel's emergence has been the thing I've liked the most. He's not this good obviously, but even if he's league average or better with the bat and glove, that's a capable starting OF on this team. If he's better than that, then great. I think Jansen will get better. He's already good with the glove and I feel his bat will eventually turn it around. I really like the Bichette-Biggio-Vlad-Gurriel-Jansen group. It would be nice to add a CF in there who can join them. Haven't completely ruled out Alford but he's getting closer to being an afterthought despite his recent hot streak. He really needs to be up and playing everyday instead of Teoscar. The bad was mentioned in the OP. SP depth sucks. Haven't gotten any contribution yet from AAA starters except Thornton. All the fringy/undervalued pick ups by Atkins, or fringy inherited prospects, have flopped (Drury, McKinney, Teoscar, Brito, Tellez, etc). Gurriel turning into something has at least taken some of the sting away. The Grichuk extension was unnecessary, although his performance this season really doesn't matter all that much. But 2020 and beyond he needs to be effective. I would go into this deeper, but Brownie is already triggered and likely in tears just by reading Grichuk's name mentioned, so I'll expand another time. Atkins has been a mixed bag so far, but like I said before, the trade deadline will either further prove he's not the guy for this role, or it could be his redemption. He needs to hit a grand slam at the deadline. Right now I really just trust the team's drafting and international signings. That could change with a good deadline haul.
  7. Not sure why Thornton is even in this game. He threw 80 pitches in 3 innings. i know we need the SP to eat innings but he is probably already tired.
  8. Since it's the Rays not only will Franco agree to an extension, but it will probably be a 6 year deal with 4 team options where his max earnings will be like $35 million.
  9. Biggio and Vlad walk followed by a Gurriel HR. Damn that looks good on the box score. The pitching for this org scares the crap out of me, but the offence could be solid as early as next season.
  10. The Yankees will get a starter in the next month for Frazier. If it's not Stroman (hopefully it won't be) then it will be someone else. The NY media is in classic spin mode trying to portray Cashman as not wanting to trade Frazier without getting a massive haul, when he's probably hoping to make a trade where Frazier is the only real piece he has to move. The Jays can do better than a defensively challenged corner OF whose offensive potential probably isn't as great as projected to be. Hopefully there are better offers out there, and I see no reason why there wouldn't be. That extra year of control makes a big difference. It probably won't be a great deal, as teams now more than ever are reluctant to move good prospects, but it sure as hell should be better than Clint f'n Frazier as the center piece. If not, then hold on to Stro.
  11. If the Jays deal Stroman to the Yankees, the main piece coming back will be Frazier. That is who Cashman is trying to use to improve the rotation. Expecting anyone significant beyond that is wishful thinking. That's why I hope he's traded anywhere else.
  12. Hell, in the two (?) trades Atkins made with them, he got Diaz for Woodman and Grichuk for Greene/Leone. Apparently could have gotten Flaherty for one year of JD too which in hindsight would have looked good. I'm down with trading with the Cards again, though their system isn't as deep as it used to be.
  13. Edwin is typically not a player who hits the ball the other way. It's a s***** part of the park but both sides will have a chance to hit BS home runs.
  14. For those complaining about the right field porch, you know that advantage is available to Yankee opponents too, right?
  15. Richard is the perfect tank commander. He will be s*** more times than not, but he'll be s*** over 5 innings.
  16. Morales has a -1.2 WAR and 96 wRC+ since the Jays signed him. $33 millon flushed down the drain, although at least we got some international dough out of it.
  17. That would be preferable, but Sanchez is an entitled jackass who probably thinks he's better than that, and we have practically no depth in the rotation. Move him to the pen and I'm fine with that, but at this point I'm just tired of seeing him pitch period.
  18. I'd trade Sanchez for a relief prospect, and it doesn't even have to be a great one.
  19. Yeah, not sure why we wouldn't want an extra year of Bichette by waiting until next April, rather than letting him get a few AB's in a 100 loss season now. It sucks for Bo and the fans, I'd rather have him up ASAP, but I wouldn't get that logic either. Unless Shatkins is sure they can extend Bo long term while Vlad is probably a lock to test free agency.
  20. Did Biggio ever publicly brag about how good his strike zone recognition is? The amount of balls that are called strikes when he's up is ridiculous.
  21. Pretty much. Montoyo is being used for when the team tanks and then will be replaced when they want to win. Same thing thr Astros did with their manager before 2015.
  22. Haha, ok that makes sense. I was looking at Cooper's numbers and was wondering what I was missing.
  23. Damn, I was always holding on to hope that Paulino could be a starter, but dude's arm is not built for it. He needs to be turned into a reliever.
  24. Nope. You guys can believe what you want. I’m not messing with Cashman. Ever. He drafts well, develops well, and never trades prospects that end up biting him in the ass. If Garrett Cooper is the exception (a 28 year old 1B with a .376 BABIP), then not only is that not changing my opinion, but I’ll just bring up Voit who is better and who they got for not much. When Frazier is traded, he will become a bust. I’m sure of it. I’m sipping the Cashman koolaid.
