    By virtue that he is in A+ and Fisher is already in the bigs, I wouldn't go that far (yet), but the Rays evaluate talent better than just about everyone. If they think Stevenson is good or has potential to be good, then he just might be. Curious to see how he develops going forward. He has zero power and the scouting report in the other thread seemed to imply that he can't play a position well, so it's going to be hard for him to overcome those issues if they are not correctable, but dammit the Rays could turn one of us into a competent big leaguer, so who knows.

    The Rays about to destroy another team in a trade. Even if it looks bad or average now it will look like a steal 12 months from now.

    No of course between the two Fisher is more likely to become a MLB player (he's already in the bigs and Stevenson is in A ball). In isolation the deal is fine. It's the fact that there's a good chance Fisher sucks + has no options left that made people question the trade. I don't think anyone thinks Stevenson was too high of a price to pay, just that Fisher probably isn't worth all that much regardless. But like I said, power + walks is a good combo. He might be a little tweak away from becoming something. Still think it was a nothing trade.

    So if the Jays simply released Sanchez/Biagini, and had Stevenson in the system instead of Fisher on the 40 man roster, is this team better, worse, or the same? If the answer to that is anything other than "better", then why are you surprised that people didn't like the trade? Now I happen to think Fisher actually has some intriguing qualities (power, walks, speed), but unless he pulls a Justin Smoak 2017 out of no where, this was a nothing trade at best.

    I don't think it was the players we gave up that was the issue, more so that many people thought/think Fisher sucks.

    I don't think the Jays would try to force Vlad to play 3B if he didn't care where he played. Chances are he wants to play 3B, and the Jays are obliging while he's still young enough to potentially improve/get in shape. They'll make the switch when it's clear there is no hope (which might be in 2020).

    The Jays actually have a good fielding 3B who can hit (if he rebounds) on the roster, but are playing him at 1B. I wonder if switching Vlad and Shaw is ever going to be a discussion in 2020 (for the front office).

    If Cora is found to have been heavily involved in the cheating with the Astros in 2017 and Red Sox in 2018, I can’t see how they’d allow him to remain in the league.

    Hudson deal makes no sense at all but some times teams are willing to reward players after a title. This might be one of those cases. Good for him.

    If he gets $100-110m in free agency like expected, then he’ll clear about $180-190m for his career. Not bad for a late bloomer whose first year of arb was at age 29 and last year of arb was a lost season due to injury. His prime years were incredible. Jose cleared $100m for his career but did not bet on himself after 2010 (instead went for the extension) and ended up losing a ton of money. If he became a FA after 2011, he would have cashed out big time. By the time he did become a FA he had already begun his decline. Edwin is well over $100m now and could get another $24m if his option is picked up. JD made out the best out of the late bloomer group, but he was also the best player out of that group so makes sense.

    Jays will be all over this but so will everyone else. Time to trade some fringe 40 man roster types for international draft money.

    Eh, I'd be fine with it. Needs a lot of work, and like I said high chance of being a bust, but if you want to get an actual CF prospect, then have to aim in the lower minors. I doubt too many teams are trading them away when they are refined and in the upper minors, certainly not for a one year rental like Giles. Get them when they are lower in the minors and see if you can work on fixing their issues. If we can get Marsh instead, then obviously do that, but I'm trying to be realistic. I just want a young legit CF option for Giles. Find one with even modest upside who can play the position for a long time and I'll probably be good with the deal.

    Even Giles for Adams would work for me (further away and more likely to bust but Jays can wait on a potential legit CF).

    Apparently it is 6/50 guaranteed, and can max out at $88m over 8 years if both team options are picked up. Good deal for the White Sox, but good for Robert too, I think. He'll start the season on the team instead of held down to manipulate an extra year, so he really only gives up one free agent year. Would he be able to get more than $88M with 3 min years, 4 arb years, and then his first of free agency? Maybe, but not a guarantee, and that's assuming he actually becomes a star and remains one over the long haul. He'll be a free agent at age 29.

    Depending on whether they sign another OF, I'd expect to see Gurriel/Teoscar/Grichuk starting with Fisher as the 4th OF and Alford as the extra roster spot (defensive replacement, pinch runner, etc). If there is one constant with this front office it is that they don't usually dump someone with even modest potential until they have exhausted all avenues (see Pompey). Of course if they sign another OF, then that might change things, but even then that other OF could be the DH (or Hernandez can DH), and the same roster configuration as above works.

    Urena has been dropped from the 40 man roster to make room for Shaw.

    Puig's more of a short term stop gap type to me. Which is fine. I would think he is more realistic than Cast/Ozuna. If the Jays are going to spend big money I don't think they'll do it with anyone remaining in free agency, but we will see.

    I’m willing to act fake outraged on social media at Rosie’s fat shaming if it helps getting her removed. It would be for a good cause.

    I guess Castellanos, Gurriel, Grichuk, and Hernandez can rotate between OF/DH, and Cast can cover 1B against LHP when Shaw has to sit. Could work. Probably still not going to be a good defence, but the offensive improvement would be significant.

    One more question from Rosie and Ryu is going to wonder how quickly he can void his contract.
