  1. If the Jays miss out on the big FA's (Springer, Bauer, DJ, Realmuto), then I don't see why Kim/Sugano would be a disappointment. Signing both of them would be risky in terms of projecting performance, they could both be good or both be busts, but the SP market after Bauer is pretty much riddled with risks (health/performance) and the non-SS infield market isn't that much better.
  2. What will be interesting is that I believe Ha-Seong Kim's posting period ends on January 1. So I guess we'll know in a little over 2 weeks whether that's happening or not. If it doesn't happen, and DJ is back with the Yankees, then the Jays will need an IF from somewhere, and rumors might get out of control by then if Lindor is still with CLE.
  3. The Jays are one of the few teams that are willing to spend money this winter, and presumably have a lot of it to spend. Supply is exceeding demand to a ridiculous level in the free agent market. The Jays best prospects are in low A, and the 2020 minor league season was wiped out, so they'd be selling low if they moved any of their top 10 prospects. The Jays don't need a SS. All of those things combined means the Jays should be prioritizing free agency right now, not a trade for a rental SS who will need a decade long extension to keep around. As painful as it is for fans, the Jays can afford to wait for every FA except Kim and Sugano (assuming they are in on one or both), since there is a posting deadline for them. Beyond those two, there are still very good FA's available even if the Mets sign Springer and Bauer, or someone else signs Bauer. Absolutely no need to trade for Lindor. It won't even benefit them in the box office in 2021 due to the pandemic.
  4. McCann's the first domino. Realmuto's not going to the Mets, so they are probably going to end up overpaying Springer now that they have a catcher. Hopefully things will start picking up now. I could definitely see Realmuto still being unsigned late into January, unless Dombrowski gets the greenlight to spend. I don't see any obvious fit with money. Maybe the Nats?
  5. Jeff Passan is basically MLB Woj and he thinks Lindor's going to the Jays or Mets. There's probably a very real shot. I've said before I'd be wary of a ridiculous FA style extension for Lindor (10+ years), but if the Jays do happen to trade for him and extend him, then I have enough faith in Mark and Ross to trust their judgment. When talking about signing Gerrit Cole, Michael Kay (announcer for the Yankees) said Cole was Brian Cashman's "white whale". He was going to get him regardless of what it cost. Maybe Lindor is that for Shatkins. Signing Kim, trade Gurriel for Lindor, and then moving Biggio to the OF seems like it would work. Grichuk still being in CF would suck, though. I'd still prefer something like Springer + Kim, but Springer is probably heading to the Mets.
  6. Kim is younger than every position player on the team except Vlad, Bo, and Kirk. If he turns out to be good, and the Jays have him locked up for the rest of his 20's, then that would be a great outcome. Of course he has very real bust potential too, more than any of the MLB free agents they could sign, so that's where they have to use their scouting to determine whether they believe in his upside and ability to hit big league pitching/velocity.
  7. The Phillies just gave Dombrowski $20m over four years. I don't think they hired him to rebuild or significantly cut payroll, so JTR going back to Philly has probably become a real possibility now. I tend to agree that the Jays are open to anything but are more likely to hit the middle of the market unless a big name falls to them. Springer (Mets), DJ (Yanks), JTR (Phils?), Bauer (Angels?) all seem like long shots now. The Jays are probably shopping in the Kim, Brantley, JBJ, Sugano, Paxton, Odorizzi, etc, market but are waiting to see what happens to the big dogs first.
  8. The SP market is so underwhelming outside of Bauer. I wonder what Sugano ends up getting. He did play on the same team as Yamaguchi so I'm sure the Jays are familiar with him.
  9. Dombrowski's first move will be to sign Harper to a 3 year extension so that his contract ends in 2034 instead of 2031.
  10. Semien would be a good target if the Jays needed a SS. If they sign Kim he's likely going to play 3B, whereas Semien may want to stick at short, especially if he has to sign a shorter deal. I think the only acquisition who would take Bo off SS is Lindor.
  11. I don't think the Jays are getting Bauer, but it's interesting how the team has been linked to everyone, literally everyone, but little to no mention of Bauer from what I've seen (or maybe I missed it). Not even Morosi trying to troll for clicks. Maybe Luba's presence on social media is scaring the faux rumor specialists like Morosi from posting.
  12. Imagine being a billionaire, buying your childhood team with your own money, and just signing everyone you want within a month of owning the team. Cohen living every sports fan's dream. Good for him and the Mets. Unfortunately, bad for the Jays.
  13. Seems like the Mets will get McCann and probably Springer. I wonder if they go after Bauer too?
  14. Unless there is a surprise team out there with money looking for a catcher, I think the Jays end up with Realmuto at this rate (assuming McCann ends up with the Mets).
  15. If the Jays have been linked to him and it's not based on a Morosi tweet, then that's good. The Ryu connection/friendship would certainly help in that case. Of course the Jays have been interested in everyone this winter according to baseball media.
  16. Yankees apparently lost more money than any team in baseball in 2020, they don't want to go crazy in luxury tax territory, and have to re-sign LeMathieu. If they re-sign DJ, then I don't think they are going to spend much on pitching.
  17. Yeah, the original tweet made it sound like Ryu was helping to recruit Kim. Turns out Kim just wanted to have dinner, and you know Ryu ain't turning down a meal. We don't know how the Jays even value Kim as nothing has been reported about it (to my knowledge), so who knows. If the Jays are interested in him, then a dinner with Ryu where the Jays org may have been discussed couldn't hurt.
  18. I have no idea if Kim will be good or not, but from a fit and age standpoint, he's a logical target for the Jays. Can play SS/3B and is only 25. Would fit nicely with the current group.
  19. Yeah, Lindor being a MLBPA rep now definitely lessens the potential for an extension, at least a reasonable one. He's going to want to test FA to get as much money as possible.
  20. I'm actually bullish on Gurriel being a 120 wRC+ player, but him in a package for Gray, preferably followed by a Springer signing, would be great. The Jays would have to add stuff to the trade, but it's the Reds, so logic doesn't necessarily have to apply.
  21. The Reds are apparently looking to move Gray as well, who has a great contract, so it’s definitely a money issue, although with Cincy you can’t discount insanity.
  22. According to Trollosi, Ha-Seong Kim has formally been posted. Curious to see what his market is.
  23. Agreed. It was mentioned that Lindor's been the 3rd best player in baseball based on WAR since he debuted, and that's true, but he has a 118 wRC+ over that span, where players around him in the top 10 are in the 130's and 140's. His value is largely dependent on defense and base running (and he's been a negative BsR the last two years), and I don't know if I'd trust those two things to age very well. Certainly not over another 10-12 years, or whatever it would take to extend him.
