  1. Agreed. Not a fan of long extra inning games. It shouldn’t be a rule in the playoffs but in the regular season I have no issues with it.
  2. Knowing how MLB works, they'll agree to expanded playoffs and a universal DH on March 27. It's ridiculous that they are using the DH as a bargaining chip. At least expanded playoffs would involve some type of revenue split, so that makes sense as a bargaining tool (as annoying as that is for fans) but the DH seems like a really arbitrary thing to postpone.
  3. Dodgers apparently have a 2 year offer out there, but Turner wants more years. Jays would have to go 3-4 years, and at age 36 that seems like a bad idea. Didi on a two year deal might be the the better play.
  4. If MLB actually wants to start the season on time (debatable), then moving the teams in the Cactus League to another makeshift ST site is probably doable (Texas, Florida, etc). Not ideal, but doable. It's imperative that they actually play exhibition games though since you can't expect pitchers to be ready for a 162 game season without a proper ST. The owners would clearly prefer a delayed season, but players want 162, and I don't think Manfred can do anything about it this season.
  5. The Yankees clearing salary room like the small market team that they are.
  6. There is literally only one knock on Tanaka, and it's the partial UCL tear. He checks every other box for the Jays. Dependable, can pitch in the AL East, can be in a playoff rotation, etc. The issue with the non Bauer FA market is that it's riddled with risk, whether it's injury, performance, or both. If Tanaka can be had on a 1-2 year deal, then I don't see any other non Bauer options that look any better/less risky.
  7. That's what I meant, he'd never give a player (alone) the ability to opt out. I'm sure Shapiro would be open to a mutual option, since both parties can opt out of a deal, but those are pointless as they are basically designed to not be picked up.
  8. Shapiro has said he'd never give a player an opt out, so I doubt that would be an option with Bauer or anyone.
  9. Jays players, and baseball players in general, seem to be more active on Instagram than Twitter.
  10. As a point of reference regarding the signing bonus, here is how they did Grichuk's contract (which had a $5m bonus): 5 years/$52M (2019-23) $5M signing bonus, paid in $1M installments on 7/1/19, 10/1/19, 4/1/20, 7/1/20 and 4/1/21 19:$7M, 20:$12M, 21-23:$9,333,333 annually
  11. Bauer can do it all.
  12. Hard to say without knowing what it would cost, but at face value, Bauer would be the better way to go. Younger, healthier, more upside. You'd feel pretty good going into a playoff series with Ryu-Bauer-Pearson. However, if Bauer is not an option for whatever reason, then Paxton + Tanaka would be a solid fallback, especially if both are on one year deals (would minimize risk for the Jays tremendously).
  13. Didi at 3B would be great, but I'm not moving Bo off SS for anyone that is available in free agency right now. If Didi would be willing to move to 3B (or 2B) full time, then he's a nice fit.
  14. Agreed, Brantley was more of a luxury signing, not a necessity. Would have been awesome to have him in the lineup, but he wasn't filling a need.
  15. Hazel is now officially the spokesperson for the "Source: Trust me bro" meme.
  16. "Jays signing Brantley to a 3 year deal". Hours later... "Jays did not come close to signing Brantley". Interested to know what the hell actually happened here.
  17. I missed this earlier. Last night Rosenthal got the figures to Yates' deal wrong in a Tweet, and today did this: When Kenny is crediting "The Honest Jays Fan" as a source, then something is wrong. I hope he's feeling ok.
  18. Alpha Atkins going to pivot to Bauer. No sweat.
  19. Hazel's Twitter timeline/mentions about to explode.
  20. Brantley back to the Astros. What??
  21. Exactly, so this isn't on Hazel, it's on everyone. The most credible MLB media out there confirmed/cosigned it. Not sure what that means. Maybe they hit a snag somewhere.
  22. Hazel wasn't the only one to report it though, practically everyone important confirmed it (Ken, Passan, Heyman, Sherman). So either they all blindly followed Hazel or they heard the same thing. Either way, hope this gets done.
  23. Yeah, Kirk is either starting catcher in the bigs (Jansen traded) or he starts in AAA. I don't think they'll use him as a backup, and there will be no DH AB's for him with Brantley and others in the fold.
  24. So that's Chatwood, Yates, Springer, and Brantley added. There's either going to be trades or a few DFA's coming up.
