  1. Yes. He should be taken out after 7. Whether he will or not is another question.
  2. Those 2 innings pitched in 2 blowouts really gave Montoyo the impression that Saucedo was ready for high leverage work. The pen is dumpster fire, so there was a chance for implosion regardless of who he brought in, but Saucedo is not the guy to bring into the game in that spot.
  3. Jansen has two options remaining according to FG, so keeping Reese and (hopefully) starting Kirk when he gets back is looking like the likely scenario.
  4. Agreed. The player development under AA was awful, and Ricciardi's regime wasn't good at drafting period, so not sure we can use previous Jays prospects as a reference point. The Shatkins regime has been excellent at player development so far, and while it is certainly possible that players like Martin and Groshans could become busts down the line, it wouldn't be because of lack of effort by the organization. They have invested quite a bit in player development. I'd trust top prospects panning out more now than I would have 5-10 years ago. I think trading pitching prospects (especially if established pitching is coming back) is the way to go. I just don't trust pitching prospects, and I'd rather have a young position player core and old rotation anyway.
  5. Players as good as or better than Grichuk sign cheap one year deals in the current market. He’s just not a long term asset and unfortunately he still has another two years to go after this one. A bad contract swap is possible but the Jays would have to eat up a lot of his contract if it’s a straight dump. In today’s environment, $10m a year for a 1 WAR outfielder is just not good value by any team’s metrics, and even if the Jays ate half of the deal, you could get a Pillar type for less than that every off season.
  6. Panik's the backup at every position even though he can only play one. When you're that professional, it's hard to keep you on the bench.
  7. I've always thought MLB needed to add unique team uniforms/shoes for the AS game, one that caters more to younger people since it would make the game at least look more appealing to that demo, but the above isn't it. That's not good at all. As far as the American flag on the Jays jersey, it's appropriate this season.
  8. If Ray keeps this up he’d be someone I’d give the QO to, but I’d be wary of a long term deal. Although if there is a price and term that makes sense for both sides, then it’s worth looking into.
  9. It wouldn't surprise me if the Jays start Moreno at CA (whenever he comes up) and use Kirk as backup CA + DH. Atkins seems partial to players he drafted/signed (like every GM usually is). I think they move on from Jansen regardless of the return whenever they feel Moreno is ready to step in, and Tellez probably has one foot out the door as well so DH is unoccupied.

I'm for Suggs as well. I wouldn't be upset with any of Suggs, Green, or Mobley, but my guess is it will come down to Suggs or Green (Mobley won't get past 3 IMO). A FVV/Suggs backcourt would work, and he fits in perfectly with this team.
  11. Samad Taylor turning into a power hitter was a development I wasn't expecting. His K% in June is 23.9%, so he's improving in that area after his big K May. Still only 22. I don't know if the club views him as a potential trade piece or someone they plan to protect in the Rule 5 next season, but he's gone from potential sleeper the past few years to intriguing.
  12. Pitchers cheat....then throw a fit when the league tells umpires to make sure they are not cheating anymore. I'll take the meltdowns if it means pitchers aren't using any illegal substances.
  13. Wander Franco just tied the game at the Trop with a 3 run HR.
  14. Montoyo being suspended for any reason is a positive.
  15. Baseball needs to get some new, fresh blood into their announcing ranks. The Jays broadcast when it’s just Buck and Pat is like the dictionary definition of “out of touch”. Can’t promote the sport to a younger demo with guys like that still employed in prominent roles.
  16. The super two cut off must be over. No other reason why the Rays would call Franco up.
  17. Shed Long game winning GS for the Mariners as they sweep the Rays. About time the Rays start losing.
  18. I don't live in Canada, but man that sounds like a s*** show. Some baseball stadiums are allowing full capacity now. The NBA playoffs are in front of packed arenas. Yet the Jays maybe, possibly, if everything goes right, might get to play in Toronto some time in August with no guarantee of how many fans will even be allowed in, combined with whatever quarantining rules they'll force on the players (which they'll say no to). What a mess.
  19. Didn't read the article, but the 2nd WC team in the AL right now is currently 43-29. If Manfred got his wish and had a 14 team expanded playoffs, the final playoff spot in the AL would go to the Yankees at 38-33. It's not a weak AL. If anything there are more average-good teams (to go along with the really good/great teams) than in previous years where there were a lot of bad teams that resulted in inflated win totals for the actual good teams. Probably won't see that this season.
  20. Teoscar back and Espinal at third against a righty instead of Joe “Charlie thinks my last name is DiMaggio” Panik. Time to win the series.
  21. Pitching to Vlad when Grichuk is on deck. O's will be O's.
  22. Grichuk batting cleanup and a bottom 4 of Panik, Espinal, Hoying (who?), and McGuire. This season went to hell very quickly.
  23. It's not about the Jays being around .500, it's about how far behind they are of a playoff spot that should determine whether they buy or sell. The Jays right now are 7.5 back of the 2nd WC, 8.5 back of the 1st WC, and 9 back of the division. A nice run over the next few weeks should shave those games back a bit, but unless the team is within 5 games of a playoff spot, I wouldn't say buying is guaranteed. With that said, sellers at the deadline recently are not getting great hauls, so could always keep Semien, Ray, etc, and either try to extend them or in Semien's case a QO.
  24. I wasn’t comparing Grichuk and Pillar’s bats, just their overall value as I see both as 4th OF’s. Pillar has been better than Grichuk since the Jays acquired the latter, and it’s sad.
