  1. Yeah if Ohtani keeps this up, then he'll win MVP easily regardless of how WAR shakes out, and honestly, I'd be fine with that. The modern day Babe Ruth winning the MVP is perfectly reasonable. Going to be interesting to see what happens with two way players in the future. Ohtani's success might open the flood gates in terms of prospects wanting to become two way players, if it hasn't already.
  2. I think Atkins wants to incorporate Martin, Groshans, and Moreno as the next wave of talent to hit the big leagues within the next 2 years, so I doubt they'll invest that much on Semien. Hard to say what he'll get in free agency since last winter was a Covid-influenced down market, and this winter will have a CBA negotiation. He should get $100m+ given the type of player he's been since 2019 but who knows how teams will be spending.
  3. Yeah, Semien wants his one big contract and he wasn't going to settle in a down market. Smart move. Someone (I think Davidi) reported that the Jays and Semien discussed a longer term deal before eventually settling on one. I don't think it was ever close to happening, it was probably just the Jays trying to lock up a good player at a lower price, but would have been great for the Jays if it happened (not so great for Semien though as clearly he deserves a big contract after his 2019 and now 2021).
  4. Damn I wish the Jays and Semien agreed to that 4 year deal they apparently discussed. He's going to get his money this winter and he deserves it.
  5. But we should vote for him to the All Star game, apparently.
  6. What a stretch by Vlad. Dude can do everything.
  7. Another HR for Schwarber.
  8. Teams could have had Reese for free and didn't do it. Will there be more interest after his hot streak? I don't know, but seems unlikely. My guess is one of Jansen or Kirk will be in AAA while McGuire stays on. I would hope Jansen is the one who goes to AAA, but wouldn't shock me if it's Kirk knowing that Montoyo bases playing time on years of service (aka the Joe Panik rule).
  9. I wouldn't vote for Randal if you paid me to.
  10. Seriously, Joe Panik is gone! This is amazing. I've been waiting for this day since his minor league contract was confirmed before the season. I knew Buntoyo would play him too much and dude was awful as expected. If Atkins wasn't going to fire Charles, then taking his vetrins away will at least mitigate some of his stupid lineup decisions.
  11. I just saw Panik going the other way and it’s already a win. Don’t even care who the Jays got back.
  12. Seeing pitchers get exposed is the best thing about this sticky stuff saga.
  13. While 100 wRC+ Espinal with better defense rots on the bench.
  14. If Grichuk doesn’t lead the league in DPs, he has to be in the top 5.
  15. Panik is going to play 4 days a week (minimum) even with everyone healthy. I don’t know how but Buntoyo will find a way.
  16. Yes. He should be taken out after 7. Whether he will or not is another question.
  17. Those 2 innings pitched in 2 blowouts really gave Montoyo the impression that Saucedo was ready for high leverage work. The pen is dumpster fire, so there was a chance for implosion regardless of who he brought in, but Saucedo is not the guy to bring into the game in that spot.
  18. Jansen has two options remaining according to FG, so keeping Reese and (hopefully) starting Kirk when he gets back is looking like the likely scenario.
  19. Agreed. The player development under AA was awful, and Ricciardi's regime wasn't good at drafting period, so not sure we can use previous Jays prospects as a reference point. The Shatkins regime has been excellent at player development so far, and while it is certainly possible that players like Martin and Groshans could become busts down the line, it wouldn't be because of lack of effort by the organization. They have invested quite a bit in player development. I'd trust top prospects panning out more now than I would have 5-10 years ago. I think trading pitching prospects (especially if established pitching is coming back) is the way to go. I just don't trust pitching prospects, and I'd rather have a young position player core and old rotation anyway.
  20. Players as good as or better than Grichuk sign cheap one year deals in the current market. He’s just not a long term asset and unfortunately he still has another two years to go after this one. A bad contract swap is possible but the Jays would have to eat up a lot of his contract if it’s a straight dump. In today’s environment, $10m a year for a 1 WAR outfielder is just not good value by any team’s metrics, and even if the Jays ate half of the deal, you could get a Pillar type for less than that every off season.
  21. Panik's the backup at every position even though he can only play one. When you're that professional, it's hard to keep you on the bench.
  22. I've always thought MLB needed to add unique team uniforms/shoes for the AS game, one that caters more to younger people since it would make the game at least look more appealing to that demo, but the above isn't it. That's not good at all. As far as the American flag on the Jays jersey, it's appropriate this season.
  23. If Ray keeps this up he’d be someone I’d give the QO to, but I’d be wary of a long term deal. Although if there is a price and term that makes sense for both sides, then it’s worth looking into.
