  1. I don’t say this often but I’m fine with the pen use tonight by Buntoyo. Would have preferred Hand being used here but he was used yesterday and unfortunately will be given high leverage spots from this point on. Dolis/Borucki is probably the low end of the pen at this rate unless I’m forgetting a scrub.
  2. Yes but the Jays have a lot of expendable parts on the 40 man (including Valera), and Smith will have to be protected after this season anyway. Hopefully they make the switch soon.
  3. I know Charlie manages like a little league coach, so everyone needs to get a turn to play, but Valera over Espinal (who barely played at all prior to recently) is a puzzling decision. If Biggio is on the DL, then this is actually the right time to get a quick look at Smith at 3B, if anything.
  4. Yeah, not sure about the rest of his Vandy career, but in his 19 K no hitter, he threw 131 pitches. I'm sure he was throwing 120+ on the regular. Three years of college for a P is just an unnecessary risk if the money is there out of HS. Wish he got better advice as a teenager.
  5. https://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/college/vanderbilt/2019/02/13/kumar-rocker-draft-mlb-vanderbilt-baseball/2823061002/ Could have been a millionaire out of HS and possibly reached the Majors already, but listened to his parents (mom) and went to school instead. His arm would have still blown out, but at least he could have been paid first. Rocker's career goal was to reach MLB. He could have done that out of HS. Now he has an education that he may or may not have even cared about and it cost him 3-4 years of his pro career and millions of dollars in the process. Hitters choosing to go to college is more logical since the level of injury risk is much less, but for a pitcher to do it, especially when they could have conceivably gotten 1st round money out of HS, is a massive risk.

If they thought Barnes has a higher ceiling than Suggs, and think the player development (which is one of the best in the league) can harness it, then I'm fine with that. I've calmed from my initial reaction and trusting this front office. They deserve the benefit of the doubt.
  7. Hand was going to come in if it stayed 3-2. The Jays (thankfully) scored 3 to make it 6-2. I think he's going to get the bulk of 8th inning appearances, if not save opportunities. I hope not, but I'd be surprised if that's not how it shakes out. Hopefully by then Walker will have fixed him.
  8. Charlie is going to treat Hand like prime Mariano Rivera when it comes to high leverage spots, so I hope Hand looks better than he did tonight.
  9. This deadline was awesome. This is what baseball has been missing. Trade deadlines and hot stove excitement. This was great.
  10. Javy Baez to the Mets, and Harrison/Gomes to the A's according to Passan. This deadline has been really fun.
  11. I actually think this is great. Teams prioritizing winning rather than hoarding prospects and saving money. I hope all trade deadlines are like this even after they expand the playoffs.
  12. Cubs are making some really good selling moves.
  13. That trade simulator site says that Martin/SWR for Berrios/Buxton would be a fair value deal. Buxton included in this, right?????
  14. Wow, Atkins actually included Martin in this deal? What?
  15. Atkins has never traded real prospects before. Interested to see what he has given up. SWR's stock has dropped a bit but still a big piece. Hopefully he's the best one traded.
  16. If the Jays are offering something better than SD and Tampa, then it's probably significant. Pearson is likely gone if that deal happens.
  17. That's my guess as well. The Padres not only want to contend with the Dodgers, but Preller is far more likely to trade prospects than Atkins is. Now, if Pearson is up for trade, then maybe that gives the Jays a chance, but I can't imagine Pearson's value is anywhere near where it was 1-2 years ago given his injuries. Are the Twins also shopping Kenta Maeda? Two more years of really cheap control after this season. He'd be a solid target.
  18. Keibert Ruiz, Josiah Gray, and two mid range prospects according to Rosenthal would be in the deal.

He was going 5, so not a reach at all, but there’s a good chance he’s not as good a pro as Suggs IMO. Hope I’m wrong and Masai/Nurse make me look stupid.

I'm a Suggs fan. I don't like this at first glance, but I won't doubt Masai.
