  1. Other than signing Liam Hendriks, I don't think there is anything else they could have done that wasn't going to fall into the lottery ticket category. Hell, they may have even caught a break by signing an injured Yates instead of Hand who they apparently wanted to sign. We can look at certain things in hindsight, like trading for Iglesias from the Reds, but bullpens are a bit more complicated from a building standpoint and more volatile year to year. I do think prioritizing relievers coming off down years rather than relievers who can't stay healthy is probably a better "buy low" scenario, and maybe one they will use more often moving forward. Springer, Semien, and Ray is like the holy grail of off-seasons. Teams dream about having that level of success. I wouldn't be too hard on the front office for their BP missteps.
  2. I'm glad he did it as well. I hate the unwritten rules when it is stupid stuff like swinging 3-0 with a 6 run lead, or other nonsense like that. This was a completely different story. Well deserved beaning, and Borucki threw it in the right spot where it wouldn't cause damage. A suspension for Charlie would just be icing on the cake.
  3. If the Jays allow full capacity (not likely) or very, very close to it (not holding my breath), then you can ignore my nonsense above about the first WC. I was responding to the notion that they wouldn't increase capacity even for playoff games, which is BS.
  4. The Jays can win a game at Fenway (or Yankee Stadium). I'm not worried about that. Getting in is more important. 15k is a joke, and having to beg for slightly more people to be allowed is even more of a joke, but this will lead to a political song and dance so we can just agree to disagree.
  5. Nothing unusual about hoping Charlie Montoyo gets fired. That's universal if you're a Jays fan other than you and a couple of others who might be trolling or playing devil's advocate. If it is unusual, then I'll wear that badge proudly. As far as hosting the WC game, yes, it's a pointless thing for my own visual pleasure. A packed stadium with rabid fans is fun to watch. We don't see if often in regular season baseball. A Wild Card game is an instance where we get to see it. To watch a WC game on national TV with more empty seats than paying customers and pretending like it's being done for public safety rather than political optics is something I don't particularly care for. The Jays can win a game at Fenway anyway. Now, if the one game WC was in Tampa, then yes, I'd rather watch 15k in attendance than ever play a do or die in that stadium, but that's the only exception.
  6. I'm actually glad the Red Sox are going to get WC1. Hopefully the Jays get WC2, but man, the visual of 15k (or whatever BS capacity they decide by next month) in a Wild Card game would have been embarrassing. Of course, if the Jays were to host an ALDS game, then it would be 15k in one of those games too. I guess there's no avoiding it if the Jays were to make it and go on a deep run.
  7. The Yankees just finished the easiest part of their remaining schedule and the Jays just finished the hardest of their remaining games. Tied in the loss column is a pretty solid outcome all things considered. Now they absolutely have to take care of business against the Twins/O’s and win the series against the Yanks.
  8. Gibby would have tied Pete Walker in ejections in this series alone. Charlie is the biggest bitch I have ever seen in sports. Not just baseball.
  9. Cash stood up for his player, Pete Walker stood up for his player, and Charlie f***ing stands there like a scared kid.
  10. Pete Walker is awesome. Charlie is now apologizing for all the whole thing.
  11. That's why "overpay for 1 year of Noah Syndergaard" is still my favorite FA option.
  12. At least the Jays can hit Kiermaier now. I'm trying to look on the bright side.
  13. The biggest thing that went wrong this season was unrelated to the roster or to Buntoyo. It was the fact that the team spent four months away from Toronto. Can we quantify how many wins that cost them over the season? No clue, but I'm sure that impacted them negatively to some degree. A spring training facility, a minor league facility, and constantly having the sparse crowds cheer the other teams isn't the ideal situation. So it's probably more valid to blame the Canadian government for the team's April-August performance rather it is to point to bad luck or injuries (compare the Jays injuries to other teams). In the grand scheme of things, the latter was way more on the Jays side. Hell, when both of their catchers got hurt, Reese f'n McGuire came in and BABIP'd his way into a solid season. Biggio got hurt, and suddenly Espinal was a 1.5 WAR player over 200 PA and even Valera has looked competent recently. I just don't see how the bad even comes close to the good.
  14. A lot more went right for the Jays than wrong. A lot more. Like, a ridiculous amount more. When 2 of your FA signings turn out to be a MVP and Cy Young candidate respectively, that's good luck. When your rotation stays healthy pretty much all season, that's good luck. No important player other than Springer missed time. The bullpen injuries involved Yates (signed him knowing he was hurt), Phelps (injury history), Chatwood (sucked after sticky stuff crackdown), Merryweather (lives on the IL), Borucki (not quite Merryweather but extensive injury history), etc, etc. This is why prior to this September run this was looking like such a disappointing season. So much went right that it would be a shame if they didn't at least make the WC game. Thankfully they've gone on a tear since then and hopefully they end up making the WC game, but I don't think it's fair to even compare what went wrong versus what went right. Apples and oranges.
  15. That's exactly how it played out. I refuse to believe Montoyo does anything other than crumble the moment someone confronts him.
  16. Wouldn’t surprise me if Montoyo apologized to Cash first.
  17. That ball 4 was actually a strike in Joe West's zone.
  18. At least West's incompetence is funnier when it happens to the Rays.
  19. Richards clearly not getting the Rays strike zone.
  20. Joe West is retiring after this season. No one will miss him.
