At least this loss will be comical. Charlie came out when it was a 2 run game, could have pulled a clearly struggling SP, but instead kept him in, and then 2 pitches later walks right back out. Maybe he wanted the extra cardio.
Interesting that Grichuk has been on a hot streak the last 7 days, and he's sitting, while he couldn't hit anything for 3-4 months before this and was playing everyday.
I didn't have an issue using Merryweather there either. The Orioles suck and the Jays couldn't wait for a low leverage situation for much longer without risking the health of their only 4 reliable RPs. Only criticism would have been not taking Merryweather out when Santander was up (Saucedo sucks but Santander can't lefties), but using him in general was fine with me. As mentioned, the Jays need one or both of Pearson + Julian to be a late inning option if they want any chance at making the WC game or advancing past it.
Yeah the Jays weren’t going to run the table for 25+ games. Even the s*** teams win games. But damn if they don’t take the next 3, what a wasted opportunity. They still need to win every series the rest of the way.
The offense was s*** tonight. Can’t use the best relievers every night so the Jays needed to get lucky with Merryweather and Saucedo, and they weren’t.
They better win the next 3.
Well, it's the O's so the game isn't over yet, but holy s*** what a let down after beating Oakland and New York. If they don't take the next 3 after this one, I'll be pissed.
I seriously never thought I'd want Valera in the lineup, but when the alternatives are Lamb who sucks and Smith who isn't ready for primetime yet, gotta pick the lesser of the evils.
That's what I am wondering. I am watching on YES and the last time they cut to the pen, it was Pearson warming up. Not sure if Romano in the 9th is this board talking or Buntoyo's actual decision.
Nicely done by Mayza.
So is it Pearson in the 9th or is he actually going to use Romano for the 3rd day in a row (and I believe he warmed up without coming in on Monday)?
This is why you don't burn your closer in a 5-1 game two nights ago.
