  1. McGuire starting at catcher today. Jays literally have one of the best offensive catchers in the league who will only play 2-3 times a week now for some reason.
  2. If you told me before the season that I'd feel more comfortable with Matz on the mound than Ryu, I would have have been surprised, but here we are.
  3. The players seem to like Charlie, and there have never been any clubhouse issues or disgruntled players. He puts a lot of trust into his players, even at the detriment of team success some times (ex. starting his 3rd string catcher in an important September game against the Rays when his two main catchers were both on hot streaks, keeping a clearly struggling Ryu in the game for one more batter with a predictable ending, etc). The players probably appreciate things like that even though fans hate it. Really, that's probably his only strength. He is a player's manager. Beyond that, his in game decision making is awful. Horrendous, actually.
  4. The two teams/managers legit don't like each other based on recent BS that happened between the two teams, so I don't think they'd roll over for them. Plus as mentioned with the 28 man roster they're going to have to use their best guys anyway.
  5. Looking at the remaining schedules, I think the WC game is either going to be Toronto/Boston (most likely) or New York/Boston (if Buntoyo starts impacting games again). That Jays/Yankees series in 2 weeks probably decides it. The Red Sox have 6 against the tanking O's, 3 against the tanking Nats, and 2 against the dumpster fire Mets. The other 3 against the Yankees. I would love for them to falter the rest of the way but I just don't see that happening. After that it will depend on how the Jays and Yanks do. The Rays hate the Yankees so I'm confident they will try at the end of the season if it meant knocking the Yankees out.
  6. If the Jays make the WC game, Soria is going to be this year's AJ Cole.
  7. Of course the guy the Rays got for Adames turns out to be good. What a shock.
  8. Jansen and Kirk are both doing well so perfect time to bench both for McGuire.
  9. M’s up 1-0 in the 2nd. Hopefully I wake up to a Red Sox loss.
  10. Manoah has dominated the Rays this season. His numbers against TB, NYY, and BOS combined are excellent. Big man is built to pitch in the AL East.
  11. I'm curious about this as well. The visual of a playoff game having 15k in attendance is really bad, even though Jays fans are loud and rowdy regardless. Even 50% capacity would be a letdown. I guess it's a bridge to cross if/when it actually happens, but I hope they make some type of exception for a home WC game.
  12. This only makes sense if Buntoyo thinks Richards, Merryweather, and Soria are interchangeable as high leverage options, but even then it doesn't explain why he wouldn't just use Borucki who has been awful this season and is just coming back from the minors. Oh well. We're stuck with this bongo playing doofus, so it is what it is.
  13. At least Borucki will be ready to come in during a close game in the next 2 games.
  14. Not watching the game, Buntoyost is actually bringing Richards into a blowout rather than Borucki? Wtf.
  15. My guess is Manoah goes one more inning and Borucki finishes it.
  16. Beating up on Yarborough is so satisfying.
  17. The Twins will never beat the Yankees. In anything.
  18. I hope the Padres make it to the Wild Card game. Whether you agree with how they were built or not, they bring star power (Tatis is more fun to watch than anyone on the Reds or Cardinals) and there is a rivalry with the Dodgers that could make for a more fun do or die game. However, with the amount of games they have left against the Giants, and the fact that the Giants never lose games, it will be tough. I've always liked the Cardinals fanbase, so if it not the Padres, then put the Cards in there.
  19. I'm sure it's plenty of factors, but the Rays are a bad draw in just about every sense. They just don't generate the type of interest that meshes with how good of a team they are.
  20. I've already accepted the fact that he's going to stay next season, and if the Jays make the Wild Card game, he might end up getting extended, so might as well embrace the ineptitude and hope he Ned Yost's his way to a championship.
  21. Seriously, if it takes Thornton 100 pitches to get through 3 innings, let him. Don't waste a good arm on today's game. Let him give up another 7-8 runs. Means nothing.
