  1. I don’t think moving Moreno off catcher is necessary. There is a way for him and Kirk to coexist in the lineup and get a lot of plate appearances. It’s just a matter of whether the Jays are the org that can do it effectively. Based on what I’ve seen this year, probably not. They like to DH regulars way too much to maximize the DH spot for Kirk. Moreno to 3B probably should have been given more consideration in the winter (better for his knees, Jays already have 2 mlb catchers, etc) but now they have Chapman through next season and Moreno seems like a good defensive catcher, so probably won’t see a change now.
  2. Yeah, Charlie is an awful manager but there’s no way he’s the one solely responsible for the rotating DH. That’s the way the org wants to run things, and unfortunately, they think it’s smart to operate like that while hoarding 3 good catchers. Tapia batting clean up or wherever the hell he’s batted this year is all Buntoyo, but days off and rest is likely above his head.
  3. Montoyo finally playing 2 catchers again because it doesn't impact his ability to put Tapia into the lineup. I see right through you Charlie.
  4. Robo umps better be a thing in 2023. At least if the technology messes up, it can be fixed. You can't fix human bias (or in this case, gross incompetence).
  5. Atkins’ model of building a pen would make sense if he had the Yankees or Rays type of success rate with it, but he might need to start investing real money into it at some point, which admittedly comes with its own risks considering how volatile relievers are. To have this issue of lack of swing and miss and average velocity in the bullpen again after last season is not good. Meanwhile the Yankees can call up anyone to pitch in their pen and have them miss bats.
  6. I still think the Jays make it when all is said and done, but yeah, the Rays and Red Sox could easily finish ahead of them and Cleveland is in a s*** stain division where they can beat up on bad teams all year. It’s not a given by any means.
  7. This is a good question in regards to Tapia. I think if Charlie was going rogue and playing Tapia too much on his own, then the front office would have either traded him (like Panik last year) or at least told Charlie to calm the F down. Neither has happened. If anything, Tapia is playing more often (at least it seems that way). This might actually be a front office call (or analytics team), and that's terrifying.
  8. Kirk and Gurriel sitting tonight. The greatest -0.7 WAR talent in the league in LF batting 5th (yes, 5th). Biggio at 1B. Vlad at DH.
  9. Severino is probably going to hit a Jay at some point.
  10. Let’s keep 3 really good catchers and never use the DH spot to have more than 1 in the lineup at the same time. Good use of assets.
  11. Unfortunately with the way he's being used, I think this is beyond Charlie being Charlie. This is the organization liking Tapia and wanting him to play. I don't think there's an end in sight here, at least for this season.
  12. I am now sad that Donaldson wasn't managed by Montoyo at least for a few months. No chance Charlie gets away with his "it's ok boys we tried" mindset. We joke around about "vetrin presents", but with Charlie managing, I think we need a lot more of it. Preferably the good kind, and not the washed Joe Panik kind.
  13. Yup the 1st seed faces the winner of WC1/WC2, and the 2nd seed faces the winner of Central/WC3. Which is kind of unfair to the 1st seed since the first two WC teams are likely going to be better than any team that comes out of the Central (in both leagues). I was hoping MLB went with the "pick your opponent" feature, but maybe the players were not on board with that. Should have just reseeded based on record.
  14. Hopefully Charlie doesn't use Richards today so he can save him for a high leverage spot this weekend.
  15. The first 2 WC teams face each other, while the last WC team faces the division winner with the worst record (meaning whoever wins the Central). Would you rather have 3 games in Toronto against the Rays (1st WC) or 3 games in Minnesota/Cleveland/Chicago (last WC)? I think I'd be fine with 1st or last WC, but the 2nd WC spot seems like a really bad spot.
  16. The only catchers it would make sense to trade at this point are either Jansen or Moreno, and I don't think the Jays trade Moreno for anyone that would be realistically available right now (obviously if Soto becomes available at the deadline then you change your mindset). I've said before, I think Jansen is the one to move, and I feel like he's the one the Jays do end up moving this winter. The team trading for Jansen is going to be an established contender or a team that plans to contend, so there would be less of a market for him than Moreno, who any team would trade for. I don't see a rebuilding team wanting only 2 years of Jansen. If they can turn Jansen into a LH CF or SP, then it's the best way to balance out the roster.
  17. Tapia can't play RF defensively and can't hit lefties (well, he can't hit anybody). Biggio has at least hit lefties well in his career and the LH starter for the O's throws 90 mph so it's not the high velocity that Biggio has had issues with in the past. If they didn't want to use the 2 catcher lineup, then they still got this wrong. Honestly, if this is the way the Jays are going to use DH moving forward, then I have no idea why they kept all the catchers.
  18. Can we go back in time, still make this trade, but release Tapia the next day? I feel that the deal would be looked at way more favorably if that were the case given how well Pinto is doing.
  19. With a lefty on the mound, wouldn't it have made more sense to go with Kirk and Moreno both in the lineup? I know that's blasphemy since it would cut into Tapia's playing time, but that's kind of logical.
  20. Atkins has been going big with a lot of his moves. I think Montas/Castillo is more likely than going with fringey types like Quintana.
  21. I'm not a Trent Thornton fan by any means, but why the hell was he not brought in to replace Kikuchi when the score was 4-3? He's been remarkably better than Richards this season and can actually act as a long man, which for some reason Charlie was trying to do with Richards tonight.
  22. Should have gone with Thornton and tried to get 2 innings out of him. Richards has been awful this season.
  23. Going from Kikuchi to Richards. The fun continues.
  24. If it's TJS, then he's likely done as a Jay. Pretty much $40m in a sunk cost since this season will be a wash and next year (if it's TJ) will be as well. That's the risk with free agency some times. Bring on Montas.
  25. Kirk on the bench again. Counting tonight, Kirk has not started in 3 of the last 6 games (there was an off day in between as well), and only caught once. Kawhi wasn't load managed this much.
