  1. Johnathon Diaz, who is now in for Reyes, actually made an appearance with Boston last year. Interesting he got a WS ring just for playing with the Red Sox.
  2. As it stands, Sierra would be the DH/backup LF/RF and maybe 1B.
  3. Sounds like Ethan Martin of the Phillies must have hurt himself.. especially considering his pitches were like beach balls to the Jays. Not a good sign for him.
  4. He complained of discomfort in his left triceps. This seems very similar to Johan Santana's injury.. and we all know what happened to him.
  5. What's going on with Sergio Romo? 1.0 IP, 7 H, 6 ER I know it's spring training and Arizona.. but that seems worrying. Makes you wonder if he's injured or something.
  6. As long as he either DHs or plays 1B.. Sierra's OF defense is ghastly..
  7. You guys realize that Sanchez hasn't pitched much above A+ ball, and is still a ways away?
  8. What a lack of judgement by Felton.. of course, it's almost criminal watching the Knicks this year. The rest of that team should be arrested for playing like garbage this season, when they were supposed to be a championship contender.
  9. Shark may still get dealt within the next few weeks, with Texas and Toronto in the mix: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/25814838-419/samardzija-trade-rumors-wont-go-away.html
  10. Mets would be better off signing Stephen Drew. Franklin is more a 2B, not a SS.
  11. Blame it on escalating salaries and insurance costs. Like the NFL with QBs, the league's trying to protect players.
  12. Blame the Core 5 of the Yankees, and when Boston started winning regularly again, and broke the "curse".
  13. Look at the lack of parity.. of course, 1998 and 2009 were big helps for the Yanks win/loss record, where they won 100+. And worse, the Jays have been a near .500 team since 1998... yet worse teams have seen playoffs since 1998. Most of the Yanks wins have been during the Core 5 era, especially with Jeter around. Atlanta's wins were mostly between 1998-2005, when their core of pitchers was there. Anaheim's success mostly came pre-2010, before the ownership, desperate to be better than the Dodgers, spent like drunken sailors. And poor KC.. 28 years and still no playoffs since the 1985 World Series win.
  14. Yep, which the Yankees proceeded to use on the McCann/Ellsbury/Beltran shopping spree, so the pick is non-existent now. Any signing will cost the Mets a third-rounder (their first round pick is protected).
  15. Mets REALLY need to sign Drew... http://nypost.com/2014/02/24/frustrated-tejada-still-out-of-shape-mets-keep-eyes-on-drew/ Apparently, Tejada came to spring training in poor shape. Let's just say it's the complete opposite of the best shape of his life..
  16. Zero. He's nothing more than Indianapolis filler, providing the Pirates don't DFA him first.
  17. Apparently, the Yankees think Diaz at SS or 2B is a nightmare, as they will not be offering him a contract. Here's an article about Diaz from the Cardinals blog on SB Nation, which is equally as skeptical about him: http://www.vivaelbirdos.com/2014/2/23/5437476/should-we-think-twice-about-aledmys-diaz
  18. No Aledmys Diaz for Yankees, as they were unimpressed with him. http://nypost.com/2014/02/23/jeter-rounds-bases-good-shot-to-start-grapefruit-opener/
  19. Rockies pitcher Jhoulys Chacin shut down with shoulder inflammation: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24454685/rockies-shut-down-jhoulys-chacin-with-shoulder-inflammation
  20. t‏@JackCurryYES Gardner on verge of signing 4-year, $52 million deal w/ Yankees. Includes 5th year club option for $12.5M or $2M buyout. Deal starts in 2015. Good deal.. but it also shows the Yanks have no hopes on Heathcott, Williams or Austin, their OF prospects panning out due to injuries (Heathcott, Austin) or behavioural issues (Williams). If he gets $13M/year, what does Rasmus get?
  21. Not sure on 3B there, as it depends on Machado's health, and him actually developing further by increasing power and hopefully improving his plate discipline. Machado did seriously regress in the 2nd half of the season (.240/.277/.370), while Lawrie improved significantly (.283/.346/.417) as he got healthy. Defensively, though, Machado is further ahead than Lawrie. Machado could easily play SS if he weren't blocked by JJ Hardy. 2B depends on who the Orioles march out there between Flaherty, Weeks or Schoop.. otherwise, most of your evaluation is accurate.
  22. Markakis hasn't been an effective player in years. And regarding Cruz, Baltimore better be signing him as a DH, because his fielding his horrible. Texas was better defensively once Cruz got suspended and they traded for Rios.
  23. O's keeping dialogue with Santana: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/24450805/orioles-still-in-on-free-agent-starter-ervin-santana
  24. And Ervin Santana still remains unsigned.. I think most teams know he's asking for too much, and he's a guy who should be in a big park because of his HR issues. Even when he was in Kansas City last year, he still gave up 26 HRs..18 of them at Kaufman. Imagine if he were in the AL East..
