  1. Yes, and Redmond and Rogers are younger than Capuano. Boston only signed Capuano so that they don't want to have Workman wasting away in the bullpen in the MLB, when he needs starters' innings in AAA, especially with the risks of injury to Peavy, Buchholz and Lackey. They have depth in AAA.. but Webster, De La Rosa, Ranaudo and Britton aren't ready to be regulars in an MLB rotation, and with the bullpen full in Boston, they won't be able to get innings with the Red Sox right now barring injury. Just because Boston's got tons of depth doesn't mean they'll pan out. Some of the pitchers may not pan out, and some may be used as trade bait if Boston needs to upgrade at the deadline.
  2. Capuano isn't much of an improvement over what we have. There's a reason he's taken a long time to sign anywhere. And in Boston, it'll be in a swingman role so that Brandon Workman can work on his stuff in AAA as a starter, so that he can be called up if an injury strikes, which will likely happen due to Peavy, Lackey and Buchholz's fragility. He's nothing more than a replacement for Ryan Dempster, who was expected to have the swingman role before he decided to walk away from the game to focus on his family and recovering from neck issues. 1 year, $2.25M BTW for Capuano. That probably shows how little interest there was in free agency, as 29 other teams, including the Jays, passed on him, because there are many other guys similar to him internally.
  3. And we all know how bad the Yankees farm is. Gary Sanchez is the only one on the list, as guys like Mason Williams, Tyler Austin, Slade Heathcott and Manny Banuelos, along with Dellin Betances have all seen their stock plummet due to injury or poor performance. Better pray Ellsbury, Beltran, McCann don't get hurt.
  4. Rays farm system has taken a few hits in recent years, as Jake Odorizzi is the only one in the top 100. Perhaps the pipeline is starting to run dry, and they need a David Price trade to refill? They really should have traded him..
  5. Boston has a lot of depth in the top 100.. outside of Bogaerts(who's a stud and ROY candidate), whether they succeed or not is another question, especially with guys like Webster, Bradley Jr., Cecchini.
  6. True. But he MUST stay healthy. He would've made it to Toronto before the Dickey trade if he hadn't kept getting hurt. At least he would've been better than JP Arencibia. At least the Jays have AJ Jimenez coming..
  7. #20 on Kevin Gausman.. he has a lot of work to do in order to improve his fastball. It explains why the O's blew $50M on Ubaldo Jimenez. And of course Dylan Bundy won't be ready until June.
  8. d'Arnaud will only succeed if he stays healthy and improves his swing, and isn't a product of being in Vegas for so long. He can't expect his walk rate to stay high, especially as pitchers adjust to him. Marisinick needs a fair amount of seasoning in the minors, as the Marlins rushed him to the majors, not allowing him to improve his plate discipline in the minors. Syndergaard will be the real deal, depending on how his curveball improves. Nice to see Aaron Sanchez and Marcus Stroman in the top 100.. we will likely see them both this year, as Stroman will be in AAA, and Sanchez in AA.
  9. Tanaka shouldn't even be on the list.. he's pitched in Japan since age 18 at their highest level, which is the equivalent of AAA/AAAA. Until we see him in live action, we'll have to wait to evaluate.
  10. This never happens in Toronto... http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24447899/dodgers-fans-may-be-left-in-the-dark-when-sportsnet-la-launches No wonder Time Warner Cable is trying to merge with Comcast.. cable cos. need to stop giving these big TV contracts to teams for RSNs. Good thing the Dodgers are insured if this network ends up the same fate as Comcast Sportsnet Houston, which filed for Chapter 11 protection. Time Warner Cable is just trying to steal money ala Leafs TV here in Canada..
  11. At least the Jays aren't a complete trainwreck like the current Knicks team.
  12. Isiah Thomas is a LOT worse than AA. Knicks fans can tell you that.
  13. Long-time NL pitcher who gives up tons of hits and pushing 35? Pass. We don't need a guy similar to what the Angels got in Joe Blanton last year.. both of whom have played for the Dodgers. Joe Blanton, who is similar to Capuano, put up a 6.00+ ERA last year in the AL.. Capuano would likely be very similar.
  14. Even Matt Snyder of CBS Sports isn't liking the Ubaldo Jimenez deal: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24446963/orioles-gamble-on-ubaldo-jimenez-unlikely-to-pay-off Should've just given Kevin Gausman the 5th spot.. Baltimore wasn't going to contend with the current offense with the holes at LF, DH, 2B, lack of speed because of McLouth signing with Washington, a putrid bench, and the inability to take walks.
  15. Only Masterson and Shields will likely reach free agency. Bailey's about to resign, Scherzer will likely resign with Detroit, and Lester isn't expected to leave Boston.
  16. Actually, it is when the Yanks and Red Sox dominate Jimenez. Even the Blue Jays have put up decent numbers against him, outside of last season. And he's going to be playing in parks which have high rates of HRs.. his declining GB% is going to get exposed in the AL East.

  18. Too many years, and incredibly risky. I'd be worried about his declining GB% rate, his walk issues and HR rate. Also, he doesn't have Mickey Callaway to help. One thing to also consider is that he faced a lot of weak-hitting teams during the 2nd half, such as Chicago, KC, Houston, and a sub-par Texas team lacking a big bat outside of Beltre. The Yankees and Red Sox have dominant records against Jimenez as well.

  20. He's not the ace the O's need, as he hasn't pitched more than 200 IP since he was in Colorado. It pretty much speaks of them thinking Kevin Gausman is far from MLB ready, and Bundy won't be ready until June..
  21. Ricky Romero isn't 36 years old and near the end of his career. And Romero could still rebound if he figures things out.
  22. The good news for Boston is that they can resign Stephen Drew now.. if he'll take a one year deal without worrying about the luxury tax, which Boston is sensitive to due to their market size. The bad news is that Boston's depth is now compromised, as one of Workman or Britton, who were booked for AAA, will make the Red Sox as a long man. And they could be in trouble if Peavy gets hurt, since despite the depth, many of their options, including Webster, De La Rosa, Ranuado and Barnes are unproven or not MLB-ready.
  23. Considering the below average production the Cubs have at 3B and 2B, he'll be playing a lot there until the Cubs top infield prospects are ready.
  24. Cubs sign Emilio Bonifacio to minors deal. And Indians don't want Jimenez back.. they signed Aaron Harang to a minors deal.
  25. Don't forget the increased TV money from RSNs and ESPN/FOX/TBS. That's been responsible for salary inflation. Plus, the Dodgers weren't a high payroll team like they are now back in 2008.
