  1. Pretty much.. let's just Angelos would rather save on his team's payroll by blocking any deal if he sees even a stubbed toe or something.. no wonder Baltimore is predicted not to contend.
  2. Actually, the 2006 team would've made the playoffs had the Yankees not still been in their prime(NY went 97-65, and still lost to the Tigers in the ALDS) and we had had more depth in pitching in the minors (darn Ty Taubenheim, Francisco Rosario, Josh Towers) and pitchers like Shaun Marcum and Dustin McGowan been more ready by that time. The 2006 team was also plagued by JPR giving 12 starts to Josh Towers.. even a .500 pitcher would've gotten us to the postseason. One other question.. how in the heck were we deceived with Gustavo Chacin? I mean, his peripherals were awful! AJ Burnett missed a chunk of time as well, so that didn't help. Probably the same reason Yanks fans wondered about Chien-Ming Wang. How'd Wang turn into such an awful pitcher?
  3. Karns' role is unclear at this time. He'll likely be in Durham this year with Enny Romero, Mike Montgomery and Alex Colome in that rotation.
  4. Actually, the real reason the Rays signed Bedard is because Hellickson is out until May, so the Rays need depth in Durham, with Odorizzi expected to be the 5th starter until Hellickson returns. It has nothing to do with David Price.
  5. And yet the US media STILL thinks we're shopping Lowry. Rumor had it the Knicks wanted him.. too bad the Knicks have no assets and are crashing towards missing the playoffs. Didn't anyone see the Kings/Knicks game last night?
  6. Somewhere in the 80s I expect, with upside if we sign Jimenez/Santana, or one of the young starters(Stroman, Hutchison, Drabek, Nolin) emerges. It's difficult to call. Remember, we still have a decent offense and a strong bullpen. Some improvement in the defense would go a long way, whether it's Goins, us signing Drew(unlikely), or trading for a 2B, preferably one with good D, and having a healthy Cabrera. At the moment, we're probably at least ahead of Baltimore, who have managed to make their team worse in the offseason by trading Johnson to Oakland, not signing Balfour, and leaving their bullpen heavily exposed to serious regression. And you can't expect Davis to repeat his 2013. Add another pitcher and I'd pick us ahead of the Yankees, who I do not expect to contend, due to a club that will likely disappoint with their new acquisitions, either through injury or due to age-related regression. Unless something happens, Boston and Tampa are still the teams to beat in the AL East.
  7. Orioles need an ace, not junk ballers like Yoon. Good thing they got him cheap.
  8. Unlikely. Seattle already is still trying to get Nelson Cruz, plus Iwakuma is expected back in late April. And they have Walker, Paxton, Ramirez, Maurer and Beavan in their system. I can't see them spending anymore on pitching, when they need another bat in that lineup to be a contender.
  9. Either that or the Mets. Drew isn't a guarantee to stay healthy, plus is demanding too much money, especially with his decline since his ankle injury.
  10. Too bad the options for the Yanks at SS in 2015 are Asdrubal Cabrera, JJ Hardy and Jed Lowrie. Hardy's likely to resign with Baltimore, Hanley Ramirez is 100% likely to resign with the Dodgers, Lowrie is as bad or worse defensively as Derek Jeter. and can't stay healthy (except for last year. At least Oakland has Addison Russell on the way this year if Lowrie gets hurt.) Asdrubal Cabrera is a 2B playing SS, and will likely be supplanted by Lindor by midseason, an elite prospect who could be much better than Cabrera. And the trade market isn't going to work due to the Yankees having so few chips to deal.
  11. Reasons why Arroyo chose the D-Backs over the Orioles: http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles/blog/bal-orioles-bronson-arroyo-grant-balfour-effect-20140210,0,5099758.story He would've signed there had Baltimore not voided deals with Balfour and Colvin this offseason over phantom injuries.
  12. Baltimore has enough back-end guys as it is, including TJ McFarland, Zach Britton, Alfredo Aceves and prospects Kevin Gausman, Dylan Bundy and Tim Berry.. and their rotation is basically mid-rotation guys like Tillman, Gonzalez and Chen, before it drops off quickly.. And yet they won't spend money on a DH, a decent LF, a 2B(Schoop's not ready, Weeks and Flaherty are not the answer), SP, or decent bullpen help. Guys like Edgmer Escalona, Brad Brach, Ryan Webb in their bullpen were cut from their clubs for a reason..and that bench for Baltimore is ugly, with guys like Delmon Young, Steve Pearce, Steve Clevenger, and even former Jay Alex Gonzalez fighting for bench spots.. As it stands, the O's are likely to finish below the Jays in 2014 without a major signing.. which looks doubtful considering the ownership's concerns about losing money when the MASN deal is renegotiated, likely to favor the Nats over the Orioles, causing them to cut payroll.
  13. True.. but he's all Atlanta has right now. They're paying for potential for him to become a 30-40/100-120, or a potential 40 2B/40HR guy when he hits his prime. Keep in mind he's only 24. He's more likely to stay in Atlanta than Justin Upton, who will be a free agent in 2016, and is having the same inconsistency as his brother BJ, who is already an albatross on the Braves along with Dan Uggla.. Jason Heyward has also been just as inconsistent, and the Braves are still waiting for him to break out. And they're going to likely trade Kimbrel possibly this season due to his escalating salary.. Mike Trout on the other hand is going to dwarf Freeman on money and length when he negotiates a long-term deal with the Angels.. he's already looking at $10M+ for his first arb eligible year.. he's easily going to be $20-25M/year to cost the Angels when they need to sign him long term. It'll likely cost the Angels $200M+ just to keep him from leaving..
  14. Freeman is a franchise player. Braves are just trying to lock him up before he hits free agency, similar to what the Rays did with Longoria. And that money train won't last forever, especially if the cable rights bubble bursts. Don't forget the mess in Houston, and the questions regarding SportsNet LA for the Dodgers. People aren't going to continue to pay increasing rates for sports like these networks are trying to get.
  15. Orioles talking to Joe Saunders and Chris Capuano: Guess all the big names like Santana and Jimenez are telling Baltimore "forget it!", or the O's org. is cheap. Saunders and Capuano aren't any better than the many #4 starters and prospects they have in the majors or minors, and will just block a guy like Kevin Gausman from the majors.. since he's considered to have great stuff (but needs to more consistent).
  16. Grant Green shouldn't be written off yet. The rest of those players after Green were definite busts.
  17. Wallace has Quad-A player written all over him.. I can't see anybody claiming him. We'll have to wait and see on what Gose does with regular playing time to evaluate the trade. How does a guy who was a 1st rounder, picked 13th, which Wallace was, end up being such a bust? He hit .300 in AAA, yet can't even hit MLB pitching regularly.
  18. Terrible plate discipline. Most of those pitches Wallace swung at were balls, no matter how nasty the pitches were.
  19. According to CBSSports.com, they're considering a run at Burnett in Washington. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/24434787/could-nats-emerge-as-contender-to-favored-pirates-for-aj-burnett
  20. Looks like it. The O's must be really strapped for cash if they won't even sign Burnett. Arroyo apparently has also decided not to sign with Baltimore either, choosing either the D-Backs or Dodgers.
  21. Baltimore also missed out on K-Rod.. he's resigning with the Brewers for 1/3.25M. Man, Burnett, Colvin, Balfour, now this.. free agents are avoiding the O's like the plague due to Peter Angelos and his management continuously reneging on deals by finding phantom injuries. They could've had a closer, a starter and a bench bat right now.. but Angelos won't sign anyone. Makes you wonder if Jimenez and Santana will go elsewhere, including Toronto.
  22. The reason they're not giving up Espinosa is more due to LaRoche being a free agent after 2014, and Zimmerman likely moving to 1st base, with Rendon moving to his natural position at 3B.
  23. .240/.280/.310. The Marlins hitting staff have their work cut out for them with Hech.. he lacks power, doesn't walk enough and doesn't hit the ball hard enough. That's why my prediction is as shown above.
  24. At least Gose is still 23 and has upside. Brett Wallace is a definite bust as a prospect, being dealt from 4 different clubs. He doesn't make enough contact, and strikes out a ton. He also can't play defensively either.. his 1B and 3B skills are below average. Of course, until Gose proves himself at the MLB level, the trade's a wash so far.
  25. Nice move for the Mariners. Now get Nelson Cruz and that team might have a shot in the AL West. As for the Orioles.. yet again they epically fail in trying to sign a free agent. Makes you wonder if Burnett even wants to go to Baltimore, especially when Peter Angelos keeps refusing to sign anybody by finding minute medical issues so that they can void potential free agent deals. As it stands, the O's, without a decent closer, are behind the Jays overall, especially based on PECOTA predictions.
