  1. Thanks for mentioning that book. I'll see about finding Francona's book when I have a chance. Bet Francona would probably be saddened at what his former club has become (although the Indians haven't been great either.. more due to poor spending on guys like Swisher and Bourn.)
  2. Well, he's not getting a major league deal. Most teams see his poor 2013-14 numbers.. and he was a mop-up man for the Cubs. He'll have to prove himself in someone's minor league system if he wants to be back in the majors again in a meaningful role.
  3. Rays lose to Philly.. this is pathetic! Good teams aren't supposed to lose to last place teams.. but Tampa has so little offense that it makes Philly look good. They let a guy with a 8+ ERA beat them.. and worse, they get Aaron Nola tomorrow.
  4. That has more to do with certain other players slumping(like Bautista), not Travis. When Pedroia plays, the Sox are 29-43(including today). When Brock Holt starts, they're a .500 team. It makes you wonder if he's a cancer on the team. Oh, and Pedroia's slumping badly.. When Brock Holt was playing 2nd and batting 2nd for the time Pedroia was DL'd, the Sox played a lot better, going 10-6 until the All-Star break. When Pedroia returned, the Sox crashed.. they can't score again, and they have given back all of their gains they had before the All-Star break. Lose tonight vs. the Angels in the 2nd game of a doubleheader, and the Sox may as well start selling..
  5. Great book, BTW. I've read it. Say, is Girardi more like what Cashman wants (high OBP guys)?
  6. Ever since Pedroia came back, the losing attitude has come back.. they've lost 5 of their last 6(including tonight, which they are now down 11-1, and will have to make multiple roster moves after tonight's game to refresh the bullpen.) When Holt was playing 2B, the team seemed better offensively.. or it could be possibly because Pedroia was rushed back too early without a rehab assignment. And Brian Johnson is making his MLB debut tomorrow.. could be a tough match-up. And considering the Sox need a starter on Friday, Kelly could be called up, or Owens/Couch could make their MLB debut..
  7. Loup is better than this.. his FIP is 3.53, showing he's had bad luck. He's cut his walk rate and increased his K rate this year. Despite his performance, I wouldn't give up on him. As for Reyes.. the D is the only real issue. Can't really take him out of the lineup.
  8. Well, pink slips are probably being readied for Farrell, Cherington and Mike Napoli as the Sox continue to spiral down again.. Ed-Rod got smoked for 7 runs in 1.2 IP (with Pujols hitting his 27th HR.). His ERA is now up to 4.64.. and worse for Boston, it's a double-header (2nd game is on Sportsnet BTW). Long night ahead..
  9. Stepehn Piscotty getting called up to St. Louis to help out the 1B situation.
  10. Yanks planning to stand pat at the deadline: http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/13288269/brian-cashman-new-york-yankees-says-strong-possibility-team-stands-pat-trade-deadline No surprise.. the team, while contending, is in a transition phase.. they need to keep their prospects to eventually replace Beltran, A-Rod and Teixiera, who will leave in the next year or two due to free agency and/or retirement. They also need to keep Luis Severino as well.. who could be a weapon in August for the rotation or bullpen. They can't afford to trade Judge, Sanchez, Mateo, etc.. especially considering that they can no longer expect to replace guys via free agency due to increased revenues helping smaller clubs. So don't expect Cueto, Hamels, Kimbrel, etc. in a Yankees uniform. Only likely move will be for a 2B, if they can find one, possibly similar to last year's Prado deal (Aaron Hill?)
  11. Heck no. Taijuan's a part of the M's future. That would get Jack Z fired quickly if they made that deal.. and Jack Z's already on firing watch.
  12. He won't get that. He hasn't been a quality pitcher since 2011-2012.. that contract the Cubs gave him was horrible in every way.
  13. There's no guarantee anyone will give him a guaranteed contract. Considering his control issues, and terrible numbers in recent years, he may be lucky to get a minor league deal at best.
  14. Runner on 1st and 2nd in extras. It's also the same rules used in the World Baseball Classic. Regardless, congrats to our Canadian team!
  15. He has nearly 10 years of service time, and his contract is guaranteed. Cubs are going to have to pay that contract.
  16. With all that money, E-Jax will almost certainly go to free agency, and the Cubs are going to eat most of the remaining contract (except for a pro-rated minimum when he signs with another club). Nobody's touching that $13M for 2016 and whatever's left of his 2015 salary.
  17. Not with their current farm system. Unless you think Blake Snell is going to be a future option.. which he isn't with his control issues. Otherwise, there's nothing above A ball that is MLB ready.. and Enny Romero has busted. And many of their other options are minors filler at best.
  18. Yes, the Archer deal is a steal.. but it will make no difference if they don't get some offense. And the Rays system isn't ready to provide options for at least 2 years, if not more.
  19. Zobrist is much better.. Crawford hasn't been healthy in years, and that contract he got from the Red Sox/Dodgers is a major bust. Zobrist was good.. but his defense has lost a step.
  20. LOL ump.. there's a video board up there.. look at the count! And it's a double play..
  21. That's not the problem. It's more due to the fact the Rays can't afford to buy bats, and their farm hasn't produced much in recent years outside of Kiermaier. They're going to end up making more trades again for bats after this season, as Cabrera, DeJesus, Jaso are free agents, Loney will be gone after 2016 (if not sooner.. his contract is backloaded.), and Nick Franklin has bust written all over him.
  22. Gibbons possibly, but I can't see AA going because of the improvement in the farm system (other than those awful Dickey and Gomes trades.) Remember, our farm system was the worst in the game back when AA was hired. And this same statement can be said in Boston too.. and will likely happen there at season's end.
  23. All teams do this with their catchers. Especially if there's a day game after a night game.
  24. No way he finishes that contract with the Rays. The team has serious long-term issues, not just because of the stadium, but the roster itself, as Longoria is in serious decline already: http://grantland.com/the-triangle/mlb-evan-longoria-tampa-bay-rays-power-decline/?ex_cid=espnFB He'll be dealt in coming years for young bats.. especially considering the Rays have very few bats in the farm. Odorizzi is in the same boat.
