He cares about surplus value otherwise he wouldn't make control a major part of any acquisition and why he doesn't sign players if they pass what he thinks their value is, The only reason he signed Martin was because he thought he would get surplus value from his defense that the market didn't factor in. As far as the future goes he has had many opportunities to trade away top prospects, but hasn't done so. I understand that depth is important, but not as easy to acquire as you may think and having a plan B in baseball is wishful thinking, Plan B is next season.
