  1. I think AA believes using high end pitching prospects is a cheap way to have a good bullpen and he may be right. I wouldn't be surprised to see Osuna in pen by the all star break, It will depend on the bullpens performance.
  2. I'm digging the optimism, but we should wait for his sample size to exceed 100 pitches.
  3. pitchers with weak contact skills are just more rare, Since it's the result of really good movement on pitches. It's the reason why his ceiling is as an ace, The low HR rate he has always had is indicative that he has that skill.
  4. Yeah, That's what it is...
  5. Yeah, my original post didn't accurately portray my opinion, my bad. I attempted to clear it up in the next post by saying his health made moving him more palatable, That's my actual opinion. The only reason he was moved was because Donaldson was the return, Health was just considered in evaluating Lawrie's value to the club.
  6. Saying a player has some weaknesses doesn't mean that the team wants to move him.
  7. AA didn't want to move Lawrie, but the deal wouldn't have happened if he wasn't included. If Lawrie had stayed healthy and put up a couple 3 WAR seasons AA may have just decided the upgrade wouldn't be worth the cost. AA loathed to trade Lawrie even with his injury history so it's not crazy to think that could have made the difference. AA didn't want to move Lawrie, but his injury history made moving him more acceptable. Both can be true at the same time.
  8. If that's the case he may be worth going after.
  9. Well then, for some reason thought league average was around 18%, still wouldn't want him because he would only be useful as starting depth, although it would depend on the price.
  10. Well yes, but Lawrie's inability to stay on the field made moving him more Palatable to AA. He had said that himself, but you could argue he would have been moved regardless, impossible to say.
  11. McAllister's 20% career line drive rate makes me think he will always perform worse than his peripherals, I wouldn't bet anything on him anyway. Fields would be good, but would cost a real prospect.
  12. That was off the field issues, such as drinking and acting like a kid. I think a bigger part was because they didn't think he could stick at second, Just bad evaluation all around.
  13. Would have been an ideal situation. Seems to me like a AA came to a conclusion before he had a problem, same thing he did with Napoli.
  14. That trade was gross, but I would bet money he won't put up 1.5 WAR as full time first basemen.
  15. Why don't all teams do it then? Only 7 teams got +WAR from DH last season, 8 teams with -WAR. Jays may have added themselves to that group if EE plays 1st full time.
  16. I would say they didn't save any money, Smoak has no defensive value(Or any really), and If EE is a DH strictly it means the Jays don't have a 1st basemen worth replacement value and the versatility advantage goes away. They will DH Navarro because he is the best option against righties, sad but true. I would rather Valencia be the full time first basemen than having Smoak play against righties.
  17. Lawrie was traded because of his health.
  18. True, but there was only about 20 relievers that valuable in all of baseball last season. My guess is Estrada will be worth like .6 WAR. As for the Brewers, They plan on having Lind hit Lefties and play first, so he will only be worth about the same.
  19. Hasn't been around long enough to really know the long term health effects, Everything one way or another is anecdotal at this point.
  20. No chance Estrada is more valuable as a bullpen piece. Although the Brewers will misuse Lind and his WAR will be lower because of it.
  21. His talent level is not widely available, If it was the Jays wouldn't have signed Smoak. Lind as a platoon player was the 8th most valuable DH in baseball, A full season Platoon with Valencia would be top 5. I get the versatility argument and you could argue moving him is not a big deal, But saying he's easily replaced isn't true.
  22. Happ would have been moved regardless because of his good season and only having a year of control. Estrada+Smoak would have cost the same as Lind.
  23. AA had decided to trade Lind before he claimed Smoak. The versatility created is good, but it just means more AB's for utility infielders and 4th outfielders, If it keeps everybody healthy it will be worth it(I have my doubts). The DH spot against righties will take a step back since only Bautista and EE are better at hitting righties and EE will play everyday regardless. Most of Lind's would have been AB's will go to Smoak and Navarro as things stand. Getting a utility infielder that can play short well would have been a better call.
  24. It would be if Travis comes up a month into the season.
  25. Any middle infielder could help at 2nd, Relievers don't have a monopoly on SSS.
