  1. Because he had a .450 slugging and a 141 WRC+ regardless. The Jays just lost one of their good hitters, only 3 left.
  2. Smoak could be worthless and unless Estrada is a starter or lights out reliever he will have a hard time being worth more than a win.
  3. Lind wasn't on a bad contract, He may not have had any surplus value, But not a bad contract. If the team wasn't broke they could have added money and got something better. Estrada isn't really overpriced either, He just doesn't seem to fit. I wonder how much Smoak will end up costing, Could be a wash when combined with Estrada.
  4. That would be a huge waste of Lind's value, Could move Estrada for a prospect and keep all the money and get a prospect.
  5. He isn't selling at all, He's trying to save money for something else.
  6. This trade just proves AA needs to find money.
  7. Until Pompey proves himself I wouldn't be comfortable having him as the left fielder. If the Jays get a left fielder they can use Gose until Pompey is ready. Can't burn too many spots in the lineup. Also Bautista in centre was brutal.
  8. I have no problem with Gose in centre as long as Pillar isn't in left and Goins isn't at 2nd.
  9. Yes, but over the course of the season some marginal difference could exist. I feel like this is math.
  10. Also I would say there is value in not having to pay for the extra production gained from the park effects.
  11. You do tailor to the player, But trying to have the Jays in the bottom 5 in runs allowed would be way more difficult than having the Jays in top 5 in runs scored.
  12. If one thing is taxed and the other is subsidized with all other things equal, You will get more bang for your buck with the latter. Hitting and pitcher are equal, but pretending a park has no effect on the efficiency of either is silly. The amount of wins a team gets is decided by a combination of runs scored, runs allowed, and sequencing. Since sequencing can't be controlled, when building a roster you need to be cognizant of what little efficiencies you can exploit to improve in the other two.
  13. Unless you think park size has no effect on the way runs are produced or distributed, it is true. WAR takes this into account, the scoreboard doesn't. A hitters park is like a run tax on pitchers.
  14. In Rogers centre offence is more important.
  15. The jays need his offense next season, It's as simple as that. Unless they go for a rebuild, They need him.
  16. If only Reyes had better control over sequencing.
  17. No way was Stroman head hunting, No way he's that stupid. Also he missed by a couple feet the other way 2 pitches later.
  18. they have been grooming/vetting Cecil as a closer for the last month. He is no longer used as a lefty specialist, but rather in the pivotal points of games. The org already has him pegged as the next closer.
  19. I don't think AA will be given an increased budget, but if he found the right deal Rodgers would okay it. Odds are no money, But you never know. also AA tries to turn relievers into starters all the time, No way he gives up on Sanchez as a starter.
  20. The last part about the jays bad vegetarian selection made me laugh.
  21. I was going to say, when has AA ever spent money on a reliever? Any money needs to go towards second and left.
  22. The Jays will go with Cecil as closer next year unless he blows it in spring training, At which point they will just go by match ups until somebody steps up or is hot for a while. Sanchez will only end up a closer if he proves he can't start.
  23. I never implied I didn't believe in regression, actually the opposite. But regression doesn't necessarily mean playing worse, It just means returning to what is closer to the players true talent. Buerhle pitching well in the first half doesn't make it more likely he's bad in the second half, He would be expected to pitch his true talent the second half. Betting Valencia can't hit lefties would imply you think his entire sample is a fluke, which is possible, but not likely. The question is what's the difference between the sample and his true talent.
  24. I would consider it common sense, I don't know who thinks he will continue this years slash line vs lefties.
  25. Only if you think the sample is completely worthless until it reaches that number. I would argue it's useful around 500 PA, but gets more accurate as time goes on.
