  1. I've been saying for a long time he should be at 2nd. He should be able to play a great 2nd defensively. Even if his WAR remains the same from the move, a defensive stud/offensive black hole has more value at SS than at 2B.
  2. We never should have traded Aaron Hill, should have been a Jay for life.
  3. Pat Tabler quote of the day "The As are a good team, they play the game of baseball." Thanks for the expert analysis Pat.
  4. "balls in the air" sounds just like AA, this looks mostly legit.
  5. Hard to determine because his contract is a poison pill. If Philly eats half the money they might be able to get a couple decent prospects.
  6. The 2014 Bluy Jays are red hot and we are all enjoying their great baseball, but you can always speculate what will happen next year. Hopefully the team keeps going and makes the playoffs and then who knows what happens. But I am curious how people see the team shaping up next year. Lets start with SP. Health permitting I think the top 4 in the rotation is set for next year. 1. Hutch 2. Dickey 3. Stroman 4. MB 5. Happ/Morrow The number five spot is where it gets interesting. Unless one of the top 4 are hurt I can only see 1 of Happ/Morrow returning. Given Morrows price tag and injury proneness I think he is cut. The team can use his money elsewhere. If everyone maintains decent performance/health we might not be looking for a SP at all this off season. Hopefully guys like Nolin/Sanchez/Hendricks/McGuire in the minors ready to step in as injury subs. For the bullpen, the likely returning players are: Janssen/FA Closer - Would like the jays to resign Janssen, likely something like 4x8m? I don't know, but I hope he is back. Cecil Delebar - Yes is struggling right now but is dirt cheap, hopefully recovers during the 2nd half. Santos/McGowan - Both of these guys have relatively pricey options for a reliever, Santos as 6 mil and McGowan at 4. If they aren't the closer then only 1 should be brought back. Health & performance during the 2nd half will determine who but right now McGowan is the choice. Loup Jenkins/Wagner - likely one of these young guys is with the team next year full time. Redmond - need a long arm FA Signing - likely need a veteran depth signing here. Minor league depth includes Rasmussen/Stilson/Others C - Navarro/Thole/Kratz - likely keep the Trio going 1b - Edwin/Lind - Lind might be traded but if not his option likely picked up again 2b - FA/Lawrie - Would like to see Lawrie at third. SS - Reyes 3b - Lawrie/Francisco - LF - Cabrera/FA - I think Melky is resigned. With declining options on Santos/Morrow should have enough money to give Cabrera on a 4x14 deal. CF - Gose/Pillar - I think Rasmus is let go we go younger. RF - Joey Bats Letting Morrow/Santos/Rasmus go should free up enough money to resign Cabrera and add a 2b. If Francisco proves to be the real deal than Lind could be traded to further free up some money. Izzy might be back next year but at $3 mil could easily eat his salary in the minors for a better bench 2b/SS option. Barring injury not to many holes in the line up and should be able to handle it with only a minor payroll increase. If they actually make a WS run this year hopefully given the green light to really make some nice FA signs like they did in 93.
  7. Interesting. Surprised that we are at or above average at 2b, that bad at Catcher (i thought the trio has been pretty good). No surprises that we rock at RF (Joey Bats), 1b (Edwin), and DH (Lind/Fransisco). At the beginning of the year most everyone would have predicted the numbers for our starters and relievers to be flipped.
  8. What ads? I don't think see any with MLB.tv
  9. The Beuhrle thing is kinda stupid, why not just hire Halladay as a special assistant/consultant. It would be much cheaper. The rest I kinda agree with, we don't have the prospect depth for another big move I'd rather pick up some rental that can have just as much impact short term.
  10. So closing in on June and Jays are tied for 1st. Could still use another SP and some talk in media about going after the Shark again. Who do you think we should target and why? The Shark is definitely going to be available, but the cost seems astronomical in prospects. Cliff Lee and/or Cole Hamels could become available if Philly's struggles continue. Lee seems like the ideal fit, but still owed a ton of money, same with Hamel. How about someone like Brandon McGarthy? Is pitching well on an expiring deal for a terrible team. Other options for a SP upgrade?
  11. Other than Trout, who are these guys playing OF for the Angels?
  12. With the bullpen/starters flushing this season down the toilet its time to think about blowing this team up. We have some pieces that might be valuable to other teams. Starting Rotation: Dickey - Needs a run of good starts but might have value come deadline. Beuhrle - Value probably as high as it can get, should trade him and his big ticket asap before he comes down to earth and avoid paying most of his big contract. Morrow - No value right now, might as well keep throwing him out there and see if he can put it together. McGowan - Same as Morrow, lets see what we got here. Hutchison - Keeper Stroman and Nolin ready to step in this year. Bullpen: Santos - Has kiilled his value Janssen - If he can get healthy by the deadline should be traded for whatever Everyone else - Cheap and controllable for years so might as well keep 1b - EE - should have huge value, trade 2b - SS - Reyes - hopefully starts hitting well and can be traded at the deadline. 3b - Lawrie - Keeper LF - Cabrera - trade or resign CF - Rasmus - trade at deadline RF - Joey Bats - should have huge value, trade C - meh Bench: Lind - Get him healthy and trade Fransico - Let him play fulltime keep mashing the ball Everyone else - meh Target: positional hitting prospects that are MLB ready for close
  13. I would like to see him really go big with those two first rounders, use the 2nd rounder money to give em a boost and make it happen.
  14. Gibby looks pissed lol He getting tired of the walks.
  15. Looks good, but I am waiting for a new BaseWars game. Baseball of the future. "Set in a 24th-century wherein baseball team owners have grown tired of paying outrageous player salaries, they decide to replace their rosters with robots."
  16. Really are some of you blaming this on the manager? Cecil or not the pitchers have to throw strikes.
  17. Is this the worst pitched inning in the history of baseball?
  18. I agree except maybe Kimbrel? Atleast that's where his salary is going. The trade return on Heath Bell and Jim Johnson was putrid and not significant, though our 2b situation is so bad maybe Jemile Week is an upgrade?
  19. What GM was that? The only closer I remember moving was Addison Reed and he doesn't really compare to Janssen as he is young, cheap, and not a pending FA. Sure I like Janssen but if I was another GM why would I give up significant assets for him if I can just sign Balfour and all the other closer types available as a FA to 1-2 year deals. I think his value increases at the deadline when teams have injuries to deal with and no FA options, and he is an easy sell to Owners cause wont be owed much dollars. I don't think we can QO Janssen and risk him agreeing at the end of the year.
  20. Nah, I know RA has not been good this year but I'd prefer to lose the 60 IP Closer than 220 IP 4 ERA Starter considering the replacements are Santos/Delebar/Cecil vs Rogers/Happ.
  21. His peak might be at the trade deadline this year. There were too many closerish relievers available in the off season for him to have much value in all honesty. Right now Santos should be the one with value. After this year he makes an average of $7.6 mil/yr which is very reasonable for a closer and its all options in case his arm blows up. Ideally if we are in contention at the deadline Janssen should be moved out to the NL and we get back some kind of bench upgrade.
