  1. You know what, watching AA interview today, he looks well rested. He is not losing any sleep worrying about the team, he must have a great trade lined up!
  2. So the Jays are getting Gardner, Beckham, and Quintana for Lawrie + ?
  3. Billy Burns is an interesting CF prospect, 74 SB vs 7 CS last year at A/AA with a OBP of 0.425. No HR power at all though.
  4. I don't think the 5 year max limit is to get leverage on FA, that would be rather silly to expect that considering there are plenty of other teams in the league. I always assumed it was to gain leverage on possible extensions with their own players and to be able to control the length of those. There are very few FA that get over 5 years and none to date I think the Jays would have cared to compete for and other than Choo there are no current FA who will get more than 5 years that the Jays would care for. The 5 year limit has no impact on 95% of the FAs out there, and 0 of the pitchers.
  5. Maybe they are in on Choo, otherwise why keep bringing this 5 yr max rule up. He would make Rasmus very expendable, though an OF of Choo, Rasmus, Joey Batts may be the best in baseball?
  6. I must have the wrong Adam Eaton, I thought they were getting this... http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/e/eatonad01.shtml and that is why I thought it made no sense.
  7. Must be more going to the White Sox otherwise I don't get why they gave away a cheap young good SP.
  8. Good article and I agree. I would trade 1 of Sanchez/Stroman for Hamels, plus probably a mid-tier prospect and a low-tier prospect. I think the WAR projects for Hamel might be a little low but his hefty contract negates any potential there. I like Lee but his contract is a poison pill, I would trade 1 mid-tier prospect like Nolin and maybe 1 low tier prospect but only because we are in a win now mode for the next two years and as a pitcher he is exactly what we need. Lee or Hamels and Brown would be a great pickup for this team. I know Brown is not popular here but he would fit at LF/DH and is a left handed power bat to supplant Lind. Lee + Brown for Lind + Nolin + 1 Mid tier Prospect + 1 low tier Prospect Maybe this is where Halladays 1 day deal pays off as he convinces Lee to come to Toronto.
  9. This guy can hit, too bad he is such a terrible athlete. Without speed or power the bat has no where to play. If we could give his bat to Gose he'd be a HoF.
  10. If 30 days of Hinske is worth that much I have to think that 1 day of Halladay is going to land the Jays something good. This 1 day Halladay deal could go down as AA's best free agent signing ever.
  11. You are wrong, Mohyou is right. Hinske for GM.
  12. How much WAR did Eric Hinske contribute to the Yankees in just 30 days? Possibly more than his whole playing career. Prorated over a full year he could be executive of the year, he is like the Goins of executives.
  13. He was on the radio defending JPA just a weeks ago on the radio and still non-tendered him. AA is pretty shrewd with the media, he likes to talk up his fall back options just in case he can't pull anything off. The amount of times he's talked about being ok with Izzy and Goins is a red flag that he is trying to make something happen but wants to cover his ass in case it doesn't
  14. What about Billy Butler? I wouldn't give much more than Lind for him though. Would make the lineup rather righty heavy though.
  15. per MLBTR - Eric Hinske only worked in the Yankees' scouting department for a month before leaving to become the Cubs' first base coach, but he helped convince Brian McCann to sign on for five years in New York, Andy McCullough of the Star-Ledger writes. Hinske and McCann played together in Atlanta from 2010 through 2013. "[Hinske] was involved. He helped me with Brian McCann," says Yankees GM Brian Cashman. "So I appreciate Eric Hinske giving Brian McCann a lot of good advice about his experience here with the Yankees. He was a great resource for about 30 days." If we signed Eric Hinske for 30 days, what free agents that he played with would we target?
  16. Beltran's last pay day, I expect him to fall apart quickly now.
  17. Agreed, really poor decision. Trading Fister to free money to overpay an old closer is just silly. Tigres have 1-2 years to try win before MCab falls apart. I liked the Fielder trade, use those savings to resign Max. Keep Fister and trade some prospects for a cheaper closer option (Janssen) or sign 2 of these high profile setup guys and let them compete to close.
  18. True, but then we'd probably have to add the prospect to make the deal happen. Even though I'd value Janssen>Pappelbon and his contract my guess is the Angels would prefer Pappelbon based on his closer rep as long as they get some cash to offset the difference between him and Kendrick. Oddly I just think if you offered them Pappelbon + Cash or Janssen for Kendrick they'd chose Pappelbon + Cash, even though with Janssen they'd save money and get the same performance.
  19. This guy needs to get bigger so that he can fit his name on his jersey.
  20. He would be worth upwards of 1 yr 20 mil to pry away from Yankees. Yeah its alot but who cares its a 1 year deal, its a better option than giving long term deals to the likes of Garza, Jimenez, and Santana if you aren't sold on them. If he helps the Jays be good its worth it, if the Jays suck can trade him and at least you essentially buy a decent prospect from someone. Doesn't matter anyway we'd probably have to offer 30 mil to get him to think about it.
  21. Good riddance, this guy was like a poison pill. His offensive was so attractive he convinced AA to go all in on him but once consumed destroyed the team from the inside out. He might be out of baseball soon unless he can pull a Napoli and convert to 1b/DH but he has to develop that bat. Right now he is a Dunn-lite hitter wannabe who can't get one base.
  22. I haven't seen any 6 and above year contracts to a FA switching teams that I would want the Jays to have done, so its hard to say the 5 year limit is dumb. I think they are reserving those type of contracts to home grown franchise players and I agree with them. So far the Jays haven't had anyone worth that kind of contract. If Lawrie develops into a Longoria level 3b you might see an exception to the rule.
  23. Three way deal: Angels get Papelpon + Cash or Prospect Jays get Kendrick Phillies get Janssen The cash or prospect is from Philly.
