  1. Putting aside everything else that's wrong with this trade, why does anyone think Ben Revere is good? I'd start Gose and let Revere ride the bench. Someone is probably going to feel the need to point out that Revere has been a 3 WAR player in the past. From what I've seen, his base running and defence are horribly overrated. He's Juan Pierre Light, not good.
  2. Would you mind posting the entire article?
  3. Totally agree. He absolutely dominated AA this year, but was 24 years old. That's an overly conservative approach by the organization as far as I'm concerned. He absolutely needs to pitch the majority of this season in the majors, but that probably won't happen. Odds are Happ would slightly outperform him out of the #5 spot in 2014, but Nolin has really forced the issue more than the front office seems willing to admit. I think you're overestimating his ceiling though, he's more of a #4/5 starter IMO.
  4. Surprisingly, no one has started a "Tanaka Signs with Texas" thread yet : http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/tex/kensuke-tanaka-agrees-to-minor-league-deal-with-rangers?ymd=20131220&content_id=66111638&vkey=news_tex
  5. There's a St. Patrick's Day episode of Boardwalk Empire, it wasn't until seeing that I realized I'd been listening to people butcher the language for years.
  6. You hit the nail on the head here. I no longer enjoy weed in social situations, it's just unsettling. However, if I'm alone and looking for a buzz it's perfect, whereas consuming alcohol alone is basically just unnecessary impairment.
  7. The entire language might as well be spelled phonetically, nothing is pronounced as it's spelled. Gay-Lick is really the perfect name for it
  8. I think it means something along the lines of "no surrender" in Gaelic
  9. ArtSci '12 but don't hold it against me lol. I had a room mate in EngPhys, you two might have crossed paths.
  10. I thought that might be the case but I didn't see it listed. Turns out Cot's has a spreadsheet with 2014-2019 payroll commitments available, the current 2014 payroll listed at $177,667,857, add in the ARB guys and those making league minimum and they are right around the cap including Rodriguez. I guess they really are trying to stay under the cap and aren't anticipating the Rodriguez suspension being upheld. What kind of information isn't made public, deferred payments?
  11. They might be in the $180-181 million range if the A-Rod suspension is upheld. I'm not an expert on how payrolls are calculated with signing bonuses, money coming from other teams to offset contracts and what players are due to make in arbitration. However, even the simplest examination of the Yankee 2014 payroll: A-Rod (25) + Tex (22.5) + CC (23) + Ellsbury (21) + Soriano (18) + McCann (17) + Kuroda (16) + Beltran (15) + Jeter (12) + Ichiro (6.5) + Thorton (3.5) + Wells (3) = 182.5 That's 12 players, Gardner and Robertson are both ARB eligible and then 11 more roster spots. So yeah, it's not even close.
  12. Sorry, I still don't know the dispositions of all the posters, I should have been reading more carefully. The other responses conveyed a more serious tone, I never thought to go back and reread your initial post.
  13. That's considerably more likely than Bundy for Jansen+Santos, which is basically a 2K13 trade lol Even so, it would probably either have to be Delabar instead of Santos or sending money to offset the salaries going to BAL.
  14. Albert Pujols' 2 innings at SS was a hell of a find lol
  15. Maybe, but it also sends the message that habitual trolling, aggressive browbeating and constant carrying on about non-baseball related topics will be tolerated...just don't antagonize a mod
  16. Just for fun I thought I'd give this a shot. There rules are simple: 1) Each player must have spent more major league innings playing 1B than any other position. Obviously this is to prevent having Joe Mauer being your catcher, Miguel Tejada being your shotrstop and so on. 2) Each player must have played at least 1 major league inning at the position he occupies in your lineup. C Pacheco 1B ----- 2B Craig 3B Trumbo SS Morse LF Votto CF Moss ( I wanted Cuddyer/Swisher but they've played considerably more OF) RF Hosmer P C. Davis In the interest of full disclosure, I broke rule #1 once. Morse has played more OF innings that 1B, but that probably says more about the ridiculous teams he's played for, I don't think anyone in their right mind would argue against him being a natural 1B.
  17. My understanding was Sky Kalkman also allows for some flexibility. Let's say for the sake of argument that EE and Bautista are equal hitters, Bautista has a better career BB rate and EE has a better SLG%, the argument could be made that Bautista hits second and Encarnacion fourth.
  18. lol I know what you mean. I puked in my mouth a little when I wrote that. Then I went and looked it up, Alcides Escobar and Darwin Barney both posted sub .600 OPS but were elite defenders at SS and 2B respectively. By the time Ryan Goins got called up last year, I had long since started watching actual good baseball, so I can't say for sure but I doubt he is that class of defender.
  19. 2011 Ackley .273/.348/.417 would be best suited to hit behind Reyes. All things being equal I'd probably still prefer Bautista's projected .258/.370/.507 line hitting second, but that would hardly be optimal. At the very least I'd say start the season with Bautista hitting second and wait for Ackley to force his way atop the lineup. Of course all this speculation is totally unnecessary because Ryan f***ing Goins and his roughly .600 OPS is apparently going to occupy that roster spot lol
  20. Are you anticipating a female GM for any club in the near future? I can't shake the mental image of the 'stache brothers Coletti and Melvin completely disregarding baseball and chasing her around the winter meetings
  21. I don't hate that lineup vs RHP, except maybe for Navarro clogging up the basepaths when he actually manages to get his fat ass on. The problem is vs LHP, Rasmus loses the power that makes the K/BB look acceptable to hit in that position. Edit: After some additional thought, Lind really needs a full time platoon partner, he provides no defensive value so there's absolutely no excuse to let him flail away vs LHP.
  22. I like Ackley's skill set and see him as a viable target but in no world should he be hitting second. Reyes Bautista EE Rasmus/Lind Lawrie Lind/Rasmus Melky Navarro Ackley Ideally Bautista probably isn't a two hitter, but I can't abide scrubs batting ahead of good hitters for the sake of conventional "produckshun" spots. On this team he should be the two hitter and there's really nothing wrong with that. A case could be made for either Lind or Rasmus hitting fourth and sixth respectively. Regardless of how Lind and Rasmus are arranged, there's a dire need for a RH bench player with strong numbers vs LHP. Somebody mentioned Ruggiano a few days ago, that would have been an excellent fit. There's a lot of switch hitters on the roster, I don't care to look up the splits but I'm fairly certain Navarro is the only one with a significantly better side (vs LHP). Overall there's nice balance to the lineup if Ackley and a right handed PH were picked up.
  23. Does anyone subscribe to BA? If so, would you mind posting the CHC scouting reports for the 2014 top prospects? I took a quick look around and didn't find it posted anywhere, if it is I apologize. I'm mostly interested in what position their young players are expected to play long-term. Examining the possibility the of the Shark trade expanding (ie the Johnson trade) to better satisfy the needs of both teams.
