  1. I consider the season extremely psychological, it's a group that was mostly terrible last year that played well most of this season. Any chance they had to sweep series or get much above .500 baseball they failed, seemed to be a problem for them to believe they were winners. Once they broke that barrier, the team seems confident and loose. Certainly a calm Janssen instead of a frenetic Santos helped in this regard too. And finally dropping the duds off the roster helps too, our bench might not be world beaters but it's improved substantially this season as we go ( almost by accident, but they seem to be getting it now ).
  2. Your timing on this is amusing ( was posted May 14th ).
  3. You posted this on September 30th : " I have them at 76 wins right now for 2014... I think they need to add 10 wins... This offseason I want to make sure I state an opinion about whatever happens. Just so when I start bitching I've something one way or the other before it all went down. " So maybe you changed your forecast since then. I wasn't liking them much preseason ( after liking them on Sept. 30th ), but two weeks into April I was encouraged by Hutch and Bautista and was back to believing they could take this division.
  4. Why cater to the negativity, I've followed good and bad teams for decades, this team has the look of a contender. I've seen teams with poorer rosters win World Series, this whole idea that you have to have 25 strong players on your roster to win is bs. Some of the posters are in denial, it was only a week ago that Georgia Peach said there was no way in hell they were going to the playoffs, still talking about dumping players. Whether they make it or not, that kind of talk is absurdly stupid for a team a game out of first place.
  5. No, let's stop catering to the negativity on here. We've had an average amount of injuries ourselves. We lost Reyes, Rasmus, Lind, Morrow for significant time already. Those four were supposed to be core players. Our latest wins coincide with Reyes finally hitting full stride, probably the first time he's been healthy since the first week of last season. We've had 3 or 4 upside surprises, not an extraordinary number, this is exactly the kind of thing I said last season. If we can get a few upside surprises, like we did in early 2012, this team is capable. And lo and behold, we have Buehrle, Hutch, Francisco, and Bautista ( the latter I'm not surprised but it's open to debate ). And winning/losing is contageous. Players relax and play better when things are going well.
  6. Your preseason prediction of 76 wins is in serious trouble.
  7. Two seasons aren't comparable at all when you look at them more carefully. Believe what you want, last year's team had Cabrera with a tumour, Bono and Iztirus playing terrible, Josh Johnson getting shelled almost every start ( if he wasn't hurt ), Reyes out half a season, Lawrie in and out of the lineup, and our #4 and #5 starters were t.b.a for two months. Plus Dickey and Buehrle had terrible starts to their year, Hutch wasn't available, and our catcher was terrible. This year's team has reverted to average luck and the worst thing about it was our bullpen. The bullpen is also the easiest thing to fix, Janssen is back, McGowan can help, Santos can help ( no closing please ). We probably need one starter, yes. Our W/L record probably understates how well the team has played so far.
  8. Okay now, he went on to pitch 8+ innings of 5 hit ball with only 1 walk. Only one guy hit him hard all day. First few pages of these GDTs are more comedy then reality.
  9. 91 win pace, stay calm.
  10. He probably didn't follow the Jays from 1984-1993, when they ended up contending almost every year no matter how the season started. Worst season was when they were 4.5 games up on Detroit with 7 games left and didn't get first place. Young people on this forum would die for that kind of season. Or when they were playing KC in the playoffs up 3-1 in games against a team that only made the playoffs because of their very weak division. In 1991, the basic story on the Jays was they were a decent team but chokers that would never win a World Series. That label was no more relevant then today's label that they'll never make playoffs because of the last 20 years.
  11. I'm not projecting anything, I was following up on your projections which are essentially meaningless. My post addresses the fact that extreme negativity still exists on this forum about the Jays chances, even while they are looking every bit the role of a contender now. Someone reading this forum might decide that anything less then a complete rebuild immediately is sheer folly, or that last place is a lock for the Jays still. At some point people have to follow the team with an open mind.
  12. On pace for 88-74, and another Georgia Peach post saying there is no way in hell this is a playoff team. Overdue for a wildly optimistic post or two about how the Rays are playoff bound and don't need David Price.
  13. 1-Pillar demoted 2-Rogers DFA 3-Rasmussen demoted 4-King phones AA and persuades him to trade Bautista straight up for Profar; King rails about the Jays never making the playoffs for 4 more years.
  14. Just randomly checked a few starters to see their minor league careers. Jimmy Key didn't stand out as being special in the minors, had a pretty decent career. Didn't really get going until his second year in the majors.
  15. Jays are in contention and Bautista is a fringe MVP candidate on a cheap contract. Trading him would have ruined this season, especially if it was for Profar ( King's suggestion ).
  16. Given your track record predicting outcomes this year, this just about makes a last place Rays finish a lock.
  17. Actually, no, I couldn't care less. I followed the Jays from 1983-1993, saw numerous games live including several hall of fame candidates. I wouldn't be surprised if Tampa Bay never wins a World Series, it seems far more likely they move the team then win it all at this point. A winning baseball team is not a priority in my life at all. I don't really dislike the Rays either, I do dislike the Yankees.
  18. They may have the best front office of any last place team. Oh wait, I thought the Cubs were supposed to be good too ? Rays have a crappy stadium nobody wants to go to, a limited payroll ceiling, an offence lacking any depth, and a weak farm system. But besides that, yes, they're great !!! Nice run with limited resources, decline will be hard to avoid at this point.
  19. If they make a late "lucky" run we may never get a new stadium, and the team may move. Plus we may hold onto Price too long and delay the rebuild this team is going to need to replenish our weak farm system. Team will need a new 3 year plan in 2016 so we can't contend again until 2020 at the earliest. Am I going to ever see a World Series win with this team ? Just joking, illustrating how silly these kind of threads concerning the Jays are.
  20. Janssen is 59/64 ( 92%) in save opportunities. Santos is 39/54 ( 72% ). It's not even close. Now if Santos saves the next 140 in a row, he gets to 92%.
  21. On second thought, I don't think you'll ever realize what a turd you are.
  22. Decades ago, there were other franchises like the Twins, Pirates, and Jays that were consistently excellent ball teams that had good farm systems. Years went by and the fate of various teams took as complete 180. And it will happen again to numerous teams. Every sign out there suggests the Rays good cycle is coming to a close, good management might shorten the length of time to revamp the team but I doubt they can remain a contender during this process. You seem to think getting value for Price will be easy. I don't think it will be. Most teams seem pretty skittish about trading top prospects these days.
  23. The Rays are in worse shape this year. We'll see how they do now. Myers I suspected would drop back somewhat this year, and the pitching injuries are important ( impacts subsequent years too, in the same way that 2012 crushed our team ). I remain convinced that they will stay in last place this season, and it was a recent report about their farm system that got me thinking they have some really hard decisions going into 2015. We haven't seen how Tampa Bay will respond to a losing club in numerous years, Florida got hit hard by the recession. Anybody's guess how they approach 2015, they haven't had to deal with adversity for a while.
  24. The vast majority of Canadian companies don't understand what a "good programmer" is and usually try to hire young guys without experience for cheap. I'm not surprised to see these kind of comments with respect to programming it is more indicative of the economy and how it works these days.
