  1. Of course bud, its baseball. Projections are just that. I get their value. Too much reliance on nerdishness is what got Berrios taken out early in Game 2 this year. I don't give a s*** at the end of the day. Construct a solid roster. Up, down, over perform, under perform. roger rover, clearance clarence, over under - Just win 90+ games and the D if possible, and make a solid playoff push and I'm a thankful, grateful and forgiving Jays fan. Give me some joy and happy memories to bask in for a bit in this window lol Also lets get back to mashing some home runs. Aside from the pen and ultimate ending result, 2021 was pretty fun.
  2. I looked at the projections on link Spank sent. I still don't think its wise to bank on more than 2 ish WAR from Kirk, Varsho or Springer. Springer's 35 with a big injury history. You can argue both ways his underlying numbers from 2023 - there are some good numbers and some ugly ones. If Kirk is the same size/weight as last year its an issue. His offense since mid 2022 has been a elite bat to ball low chase slap contact hitter with 2nd percentile speed. Not a good combo. His D is fine although he isn't great against the run. Varsho should pick up more WAR in CF. His arm strength is 40th percentile and it will be interesting to see over a full season how he handles it. Comes down to him rebounding from an 85 wRC+ in '23. We need those guys to be 2-3 WAR and Bo and Vlad to be 4-5 each and we should be in good shape.
  3. Hope so. Would be helpful. 29th percentile average EV for season and under 50th for hard hit %. Not a strong year.
  4. Interesting for Moreno they must have valued his DRS of 19 pretty highly but devalued Varsho because he split positions? f*** it. Who cares. GG’s are mostly ******** anyway.
  5. Soto is a great young bat but no thanks on that deal for a year of him. Any way you slice it this teams fortunes will be largely dependent on Vlad and Bo producing more than 4.8 WAR. I don’t think it’s smart to count on Varsho, Kirk or Springer for more than 2 each. Projections will be interesting.
  6. Depends on the amount. Cheap enough and hope for another dead cat bounce by Votto. He has had a couple. But agree it’s fluff and a long shot.
  7. I’d like to have Green but unless he accepts the one year deal I think he is gone. Just too much risk given our holes to fill for a guy who just came back at 2 or 3 years at those AAVs for a RP.

Bruins beat the Leafs in a shootout. Yawn. After last season man its tough to get excited at all about the Bruins regular season. They ran the table and lose to FLR 1st round. Will catch a Bruins MTL game on the 11th in MTL - maybe that will jumpstart some interest.
  9. Well the long Tex wait for a ring is over. They had some serious balls with those signings. Got to tip your cap.
  10. If TEX can finally win a world series, all the huge rolls on Max, deGrom, Semien and Seager will forever be tolerated, even at the ugly contracts back end. Flags fly forever.
  11. What are the odds Vlad, Manoah and Kirk come into the 2024 spring training camp looking like Adolis Garcia?
  12. What a stupid run by walker home with 0 out against Garcia. Ran right through stop sign.
  13. Thats the narrative. They are 34 and 35 now. The experience can start to collide with the aging curve.
  14. He was great. Pretty similar numbers to Berrios this season. Clutch start.
  15. Pham thinking about his NFL fantasy team pulled a Vlad at 2B getting picked. Brutal.
  16. Another awesome tight game. All a fan can ask for in a World series. nice play by Walker!
  17. Best player on our team was a safety who looked like a hobo and was bald in university already. He barely worked out. But he was f***ing mental and would literally run right through you. All Canadian every year. He was basically Adam Sandler in “Water Boy” in real life.
  18. Almost like people forget PHI was up 2-0 on AZ and they were written off.
  19. Ya. It was the max testing he was doing. Bench and squats and chin ups/sprints etc etc My linebacker coach hated all the testing which went on over 2 days. He used to say “let’s get the f***ing helmets on and see who can really hit someone”.
  20. You would know. They do so much differently now to build core, Quick twitch muscles and strength, in a much less stressful way on the body. In the 80's when I played Univ football we used to just pile as much on the bar as we could - militaries, deads, bench and squats. I've had an artificial hip now since 2005 as a result lol. An O lineman on our team from the US in pre-season camp, who was All-Canadian, was doing his 2nd squat rep in Camp of 590 lbs and I'll never forget watching him go down temporarily paralyzed being taken to hospital. He never played another down in the game. We were just blockheads who didn't know any better. Nothing wrong with these exercises but there is a lot more you can do with less risks to complement them. Spring training will be very interesting with Manoah, Kirk and Vlad to see how they look.
  21. 100%. Mets, SDP etc. ChiSox were supposed to challenge on paper and missed the window. The FO gets the glory & accolades when it goes well and the opposite when it doesn't = law of the jungle.
  22. That matters. Rogers has invested in the big renos and payroll for an ROI. I'm an exec at a company that used to cater the Rogers Center - we ran all concessions/everything. Attendance records were broken and things were great though 93. In the dark years following the corporate money bailed and The RC went from 180 boxes purchased to 7. Our rev in all areas was crushed and it was ugly. Hockey is still the DNA of most fans in Canada and the #1 product. If the product on the field remains "competitive" enough for eyeballs and seats, and we don't go all White Sox, I think you are right. The 3 wildcards help make this a bit less of a challenge. If the product has a couple lean years the renos and missed Bo/Vlad window could become an epitaph for this FO. Atkins is on his last life line in '24 regardless in my view - just missing or making it or flaming out won't keep him there. Which is fine.
  23. You have to get there and the pitching is a big factor in that but yes, what the Jays did with Berrios kind of makes your point. They trade 2 top prospects and put $130M into him and pull him early in a elimination game, because of their game management philosophy. If you are going to invest that much of your prospect capital and payroll in a SP, over other options like big bats, then don't you have to utilize them more?
  24. Yep. Cardio is heart health and important for stamina. He can do that with uphill sprints and peleton etc - other ways that are lower impact on joints/body. Real gains on lost weight will come from what he stuffs in his pie hole, and that strength training. That will also manifest itself more effectively in his appearance.
  25. 100%. What's funny is I usually joke about small ball, as that mantra drives me bonkers. I meant to write long ball.
