  1. To me Davis is one of the most interesting watches for this year. MLB is cruel. A historic beginning turns into ........ ? Projections are solid. Uggla V 2.0? or an Eric Hinske ish?
  2. Whit 1/8. Some were talking 2-3 year deal north of $20M comparing him to Zobrist. Never made sense to me. I am a bit surprised the market was so weak for him though. He relies on BABIP so much.
  3. Trying to keep my expectations measured but "hope Springs eternal" for Spring Training and for Alek. His fitness looks better than some shots I've seen. Good too see. Lets hope he has the V, movement and command most importantly. Still wish we could have signed Soler over Yariel.
  4. SP is the one gaping hole the O's had, and this helps them go a long way to plugging it. They have a Gausman now every 5th day, and a playoff horse.
  5. He has always had a great approach, but banking on a 39 yr old achieving last yrs 114 wRC+ is risky in and of itself. I think we will be lucky to see projected 105.
  6. 0.7? yikes. JT great player in his day. Met him and his girlfriend once in the line up for the TOR Ripley's Aquarium after an LAD game and he signed my kids hat and baseball. We have been in touch ever since (jk) Replacing Chappy and Belt's 6 WAR with IKF and 39 year old JT seems less than optimal. The genius of Ross 4D chess mere mortals like myself cannot comprehend.
  7. Feeling benevolent and willing to spend even more Rogers money on Chappy than 3/60. I would give a kidney to avoid watching IKF play there and get Tapia level ABs next year.
  8. In fairness to him Morelands throw was ass lol
  9. Beltre was a great player. Worthy. I'll never forget the look on his face when good ol' Elvis dropped the throw from him on a wheel play in 2015 Gm 5 vs TEX. Gibby had Goins SB. He bunted it right to Beltre who was charging the plate. DOA at 3B except...oops.
  10. Its too low. Got to keep him. The whole point of control = Control. If he is disgruntled so what? Let him get over it in BUFF if need be. If can ever get back to '22 and '23 ish, he is a solid 3-4 in rotation. He was always over hyped and never should have been the opening day '23 SP over Gausman.
  11. Varsho is an excellent defensive, really likeable player. I dont understand any hate either. But I do think a controversial trade for good reasons. Its fair to say we paid a 5 WAR price for him plus a year of LGJ - and we got a 2 WAR season back so far. Jim Bowden's take on Varsho FWIW is that the deal made no sense given they wouldn't trade Gabby for Jose Ramirez (which he said he knows for a fact was on the table), and throwing in LGJ made less sense. He said he is a + glove with some pop but can't hit and he can't understand why people think he ever will. Don't shoot the messenger. Thats one take. Others have different views on the deal and his upside. All we know for certain is offensively is he is 96 wRC+ career bat in 1600 PAs and is 28 next season. He doesn't hit the ball consistently hard - Avg EV or hard hit % are 20th percentile. But for a power tool, he hit a ball 113 in 2023. Which is encouraging. Time will tell.
  12. His command, V and what stuff he had all suffered major decline in 2023. Hard to expect much in 2024 from him. If he can find some more V, locate better and regain the movement on his slider well…sure. But you can say those sorts of things about lots of mediocre arms. Big ifs.
  13. All very true, but lets not forget he is a "big strong man" with an "edge" so he has that goin' for him.

The "randomness" of the football playoffs.
  15. I'm really trying acceptance, but watching IKF all season as a Jay at 2/15 still makes me cringe.
  16. BNS from Sportsnet thinks they will add Joc and the cheapest RHH bat so they can platoon them. Joc is completely hopeless vs LHP. Interesting theory. We will know soon enough.
  17. f*** ya. For as much as his offence sucked for most of the season he was still 3.5 WAR with a 110 bat, and he hits the ball hard. He could easily have a 120+ bat this year with a little more pull, on top of solid to elite D.
  18. 89 W in '23. Much depends on Springer & Vlad bounce backs and health of the rotation. Throw Manoah, Kirk offense in that mix along with whatever bat(s) they sign. They lost 6 WAR with Belt & Chappy. IKF was 0.2 WAR in '23 and KK projects 1 WAR in '24. Last year 2.2.
  19. f***ing Yanks. If they get some injury luck this year they will be tough.
  20. For sure on Soler. I haven’t looked at them side by side but since 2019 I’d guess Teo is more consistently valuable. Soler had 1 monster HR year and a pretty good one. But 0 D value.
  21. The Teo deal set the market. And it’s not what they hoped for. LGJ deal might be an outlier for a bat with limited D abilities or pure DH.
  22. I think it would be wise to give him a incentive laden contract for GP. As others have mentioned. 3 plus team option on 4 maybe. He still has upside and when he has been healthy he has very steady.
  23. Not really fair is it the IL label for him? Some of his injuries have been HBP etc that can happen to any player although because he tries to get the head out front and yank pitches to LF, he is more prone to getting hit by inside stuff. Guy had a 141 wRC+ in 250 PAs in 2022. Thats crazy good. Conteras 5/87.
  24. Saw that. Jansen seems to be a reasonable extension candidate this year. 4/45 ish? He is a 2+ WAR C if he can stay on the field, all day long.
