  1. As I think about this narrative I get more pissed off. Suppose we don't get f***ed on those strike calls in the 9th and Revere slaps a base hit through a drawn in IF and we win this 5-4. The narrative becomes "Jays overcome adversity on HR call...use speed and hit when it matters most to pull off miracle comeback against best pen in the business to force Game 7". Those calls mattered.
  2. David Schoenfield SweetSpot blogger Lots of crying about home plate ump Jeff Nelson. OK, the 2-1 strike on Ben Revere was awful. Remember: Studies show umpires do favor the home team, so that's one reason home-field advantage can be important. Also: Jose Bautista threw to the wrong base. Also: Blue Jays went 0-12 with runners in scoring position. ESPN MLB
  3. no idea. that turned out to be a big play. I hate sac bunting, but with their pen and us behind and snake bit on scoring with Goins up, I was ok moving them over to try and tie. I wasn't ok with half pregnant don't bunt/bunt. not scoring there hurt a lot.
  4. Never forget it...he showed up massively when it mattered most. I hope our fans don't ever forget it either. Now move him to 1B for the love of god.
  5. Really don't care. Its a team game and these are all such small sample sizes. The kind of thing that make some people think Carter was a great hitter. I will say Jose was an absolute beast when it mattered most, but I am one in favour of him trying to move to 1B. For all the talk about Martin's playoff experience etc he was my biggest disappointment.
  6. You aren't usually one to bitch and this is spot on. So frustrating to be that close even after planning not our best and have the ump impact critical ABs.
  7. know the feeling. hardly slept. watched Revere comments this am. its not sour grapes....he is right. even with some of our missed chances/mistakes we were right there to tie and take lead. so unfortunate. got to get out of my stupor today. I think this is called "withdrawal"
  8. We have a good base but lots of pitching holes again and our competition will retool. Injuries etc etc. We are no lock and after 22 years waiting I realize how precious each shot is and it cant be wasted. (not that I think we did this year). Just ask the Nationals.
  9. It might have worked but often it doesn't....get popped up or fouled off putting a guy in a hole against Davis. (in the end the ump did that for us) All we needed was a chip shot or a hard hit ground ball with the IF in that gets through or isn't hit at the corners...or a fly ball deep enough to score a fast runner.
  10. I wasn't calling for a bunt there. no way. And yes I think Gibby is a very good guy and for the most part we could do worse as a manager. Because Goins has struggled so much and we weren't scoring, with their pen in the 5th I would have had him bunting and not looking on the 1st strike. We needed to tie at least. Normally I hate sac bunts.
  11. What bunt are you talking about? Goins early on in the AB he took the first strike and fouled the 2nd? You wanted a safety squeeze with Revere? Cause in the end we had the guy(s) exactly where we needed to have them with no outs. We just needs fly ball or hard contact with IF in.
  12. It is true. We had lots of chances to score and didn't. That's on us. Using Sanchez when we did is on us. Goins taking a 1st strike when bunting is on us. Bautista's throw back in on Hosmer's hit is on us. Martin calling for a slider BBing Cain to lead off is on us. But that doesn't change the fact a ball should be a f***ing ball and Revere and Navvy got screwed against Davis. Even with our mistakes we were right there to win this. (not to mention the HR call and no balk call)
  13. Me neither. Its hard. I shut the TV off immediately after the JD ground out was caught and my 7 year old BURST into tears. I wanted to but had to be an adult lol. It was hard. He was so upset. Mostly mad at the calls.
  14. Been a fan since Day 1 and waited 22 years to get back to the post season. We came within 2 games of the WS again and played hard. One of last 3 teams standing. I went to games in Anaheim, Houston, Tampa and TOR a few times....and then hit my first ever playoff games against TEX. Went to 6 games from Calgary with my 7 year old in HOU and TOR and created some lifetime memories. In last home game of season we watched the JD walk off with the dome open. Doesn't get much more exciting. What an electric thrilling ride right to the end. Love my Jays and thanks to the folks on here we shared this with. Bring on 2016.
  15. The "weirdly expanding" strike zone gets me. I thought the guy had a pretty decent zone all night....consistent...and then those calls? I was shocked. My son was shocked....and we are toast. Just like that. How about those steals by Dalton? That was electric. I thought for sure we were tying this at least with that speed and two decent contact hitters up. Then the MVP. We didn't get it done.
  16. ^ this. Davis is hard enough to hit as it is, but when he is getting 2 strikes on you with help like that there is a reason decent contacts hitters cant score a runner from 3rd with nobody out. Revere was excellent today. We got a call off Volquez. But the timing of these ump f*** ups was in an absolutely critical situation. Great season overall but I'm hurting. Argh.
  17. 10:30 in Calgary and my 7 year old boy just stopped crying and went to sleep. He was furious at the high and away calls on Navvy and especially Revere. That changed the count and the AB. Thought Gibby made a couple bad calls today but we had a chance to tie and win this many times. 0-11 with RISP doesn't get it done. Wasn't meant to be. At the end of the day JD is at the plate right where we want him and he doesn't get it done. It happens. This stings so fking hard but still a great season and we were one of 3 teams left standing. Proud of the Jays. Am officially now a Mets fan from here on in.
  18. Looked really close to me. No slam dunk. Might have been reviewed if Cola held on....which he didn't. So moot.
  19. Honestly...I hate ragging on Gibby because he is a decent man and we could do worse for sure. But its shocking we are still in this game with a couple of his moves tonight.
  20. no....we have been trying to unlock this mystery all season.
  21. Ya, that's too bad. Thought he would be more selective....but its Davis. He makes people do that.
  22. Battle to the bottom of the idiot managers going on here.... We are going to win this one. (p.s f*** I wish Gibby didn't go to Sanchez when we needed a K)
