  1. The longer this goes on, the more I realize that all the speculation was purely fan-based, and the more I realize every other team has just as many fans giving reasons as to why they think it's their club signing him. It's sort of pathetic when you're thinking this hard about a Gavin Floyd signing, but oh well, this is what we've been reduced to and I don't care.
  2. I think there's a few flaws in this study, as people posted on FanGraphs. For one thing, most of the guys you see called up at 21 years old are usually exceptional players, this will skew the numbers for the early years quite a bit.
  3. According to Encina, It's unclear whether he'll be ready for opening day. Thomas Di Pasquale ‏@TomDip 39s Everybody saying thats its their team that signed Gavin Floyd lol. #MLB #FreeAgentRumors Matt Adams ‏@2014WhiteSox 1m Kickstarter to bring Gavin Floyd home.
  4. Yankees fan trolling on twitter lol Bobby The Boomer ‏@the_vir1951 6m @Ken_Rosenthal report 1st Gavin Floyd signing with yankees 1 year with incentives coming off tommy john surgery better than Santana only 30 Also afraid of this scenario. That's the only detriment I see to this deal (if, in fact, it's the Blue Jays). Not getting my hopes up on him in the first place, there's 27 other MLB teams outside of the O's, Twins and Jays.
  5. A random dude on MLBTR said that he's hearing it's the Jays and it's a 5.5M deal with incentives and a club option. Have no idea if he's trolling; Sounds like an AA type of contract, Club Option doesn't make sense for Floyd.
  6. Brendan Panikkar ‏@Panikkar37 18m @MLBMayhem Source? Major League Mayhem ‏@MLBMayhem 15m @Panikkar37 Can't give the name but it's someone through baseball.
  7. Major League Mayhem ‏@MLBMayhem 20m Reports that Gavin Floyd's mystery team is the Toronto Blue Jays. Have absolutely no idea how credible they are.
  8. Gonna quote myself here to add that I'm also seeing a club option for 2015.
  9. Do you guys know for sure that it's the Jays, though? I'm seeing rumours that it's the Blue Jays and it's a 5.5M deal with incentives and a club option for 2015, but still nothing concrete. I too would like this signing, low cost, low risk.
  10. Thinking from the standpoint of an executive or the owner of a baseball team, I don't think I'd ever feel comfortable telling a 22-year old "I'm setting you up for life". He could screw off and do whatever he wants at that point and you're still paying him for the better part of the next two decades. It doesn't really make sense at all to offer him that contract (17/438) right now. If you had that much money to give one player, why would you not just let him play out his ridiculously friendly pre-FA years and show you that he can do it for another 4 years before giving him that money? I mean, provided you have 440M to give to him, why not just wait till he's a free agent and give it to him then? Unless you're afraid some team is going to outbid your 440M offer? lol
  11. There's no way Trout declines that, but 20 years makes no sense for anybody. The owners and media would crucify the Angels, and they'd take a pretty massive PR hit for offering that much to Trout after spending so much on Pujols and Hamilton. Besides, the whole point of extending a guy is to pay him significantly less than you'd have to if he made it to free agency. They should offer him a 210M/10 extension right now. Something like: 01: 1 02: 10 03: 14 04: 20 05: 25 06: 25 07: 25 08: 30 09: 30 10: 30 Double his pre-arb salary for 2014 (1M), give him some decent guarantees for his arb years (10, 14, 20) and then a couple of decent raises after that. He hits FA at 32, similar age to Pujols and Cano, and cashes out again.
  12. I wonder, does anyone around here have the kind of data to determine whether or not Trout's 21.1 career WAR is the biggest surplus on market-value in history? I don't think he's even made $2M yet.
  13. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see something like 400/15 floated around. The Angels are pretty god damn stupid if they haven't done everything possible to extend him after his first season.
  14. I just thank whatever I find funny or agree with lol. Nice work KC, found myself a lot higher than I would have assumed, I thought everyone was supposed to hate me? lol
  15. I mentioned Stroman as one of, if not the only exception. And even Stroman is no longer considered as safe a pick as he was on draft day. He is/was safe to be a reliever, not in the role that the Blue Jays are attempting to mould him into, which is a top-flight starter.
  16. I agree. First Rays move in a long time that makes no sense to me. Really don't like it. Feels like a reactionary move to missing out on guys like Edwin.
  17. I don't think he'd sign for 10 years because I think every single big market team would offer him that many years if he hit FA right now. I could see it taking 12-13 years, and I'd be comfortable giving them to him lol
  18. CAPS You don't need to actually write "cap filler" noob.
  19. This is exactly what I've been harping on about so much, Infante was never going to cost more than 4/32. Unless Infante was a douche to negotiate with, or just flat out didn't want to come here, it's just retarded that this opportunity wasn't seized.
  20. It wouldn't hurt him to try the weighted balls anyways, even if he has retired. It could help him regain some health and strength, and there's always the small chance that he suddenly gets it all back and decides to return for a victory lap the way Pettitte did. Maybe finally get himself that ring. If not, there's nothing to lose with that program. If he's coaching his kids, it's a great tool for him to become familiarized with; even Delabar's main reason for trying that program was to eventually teach it to the kids he was coaching.
  21. I'm looking forward to this draft as well. Let's just hope that's not the only thing we have to look forward to (for the 21st year in a row )
  22. Yes, except they have their own objective way to determine the "BPA" which right now is purely ceiling. If they use that mentality on every single pick, year in and year out, they're never going to develop as many major leaguers as other organizations do because of the incredibly high bust rate on prospects like that.
  23. It doesn't have to be "safer college picks" the way JPR was drafting those garbage arms. Stroman was an excellent safe pick, but that's all we've gotten under this regime. There are lots of ways to use high draft picks to pick up guys that have a decent chance of making the majors, just based on their mechanics and results. These scouts should be able to tell what kind of a pitcher has a repeatable delivery, a low chance of injury (barring freak ones of course) and a decent floor. None of these things mean that you have to draft chumps like Deck McGuire. It would also help to get a few more position players in the draft, as they usually have a slightly higher chance of panning out than pitchers. Though, this one I won't put against AA, as I know he wanted Austin Meadows last year and he got snatched away right before our pick. Can't really fight the "best available player" philosophy.
  24. I've been having to "come to terms with the present situation" for a while, since the "present situation" has lasted twenty years so far. Or he can finally learn that there's a free agent market outside of trash like Izturis. I would also argue that you definitely could change what's been done, that's how you improve in baseball. You reverse your mistakes, or you compensate for them.
