  1. examples: bittersweet, icy hot, politically correct
  2. ^ A smart f***ing moron.
  3. Griffin is a stupid f***ing moron.
  4. I'm not even going to read this thread. I just came in here to say one thing. This is a waste of your time. No his article isn't "interesting". It's not even remotely interesting. I don't have to read it to know that. None of these writers know a damn f*** about anything in the Blue Jays front office. Unless he has quotes from Beeston or Rogers or someone else above AA on the Blue Jays totem pole, stating clearly that AA is on thin ice, everything else is complete speculated ********. These writers are desperate for something to write, and those are the times where garbage like this comes out. There is absolutely no indication from the Blue Jays FO to say that Anthopoulos' job is in danger. Stop giving these morons reads on their articles. This is just going to be another redundant AA-bashing thread, of which we've already had a countless amount.
  5. So writing for blogs can get you into the BBWAA?
  6. But how does one become a member of the BBWAA? I'm assuming guys on Fan590/Sportsnet get consideration, do guys on FanGraphs get just as much? Does the outlet for which the writer writes have a significant impact? I mean I don't imagine bloggers would ever get a vote. Could someone like Tim Dierkes of MLBTR end up with a vote some day?
  7. How exactly are the voters picked? Can someone like Dave Cameron ever get a vote for the Hall of Fame? Edit: Or does he already have a vote? If so, I'm still curious how they give votes.
  8. "The easy outlet to unleash these feelings of nihilistic frustration is to declare a series of grievances with the front office. But even that seems less than satisfying to all but the most braggartly windbags, whose superhuman hindsight has yet to fail them in affirming their unbroken streak of being smarter than the Jays’ brain trust and everyone who isn’t calling for their immediate deposing." http://i.imgur.com/py2PxcN.gif What a f***ing brilliant quote.
  9. Paul Molitor was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004. Craig Biggio will also very likely get an induction in the near future, seeing as how he had the most votes in 2013, missing the hall by just 7% of the vote in his first year on the ballot. I personally believe that Beltre and Jones are both deserving of the hall, while I think Walker definitely is. Seeing as how Beltran is being mentioned in that group of guys, I think there's enough there for him to deserve a spot as well. I don't think any of the guys on this list are first or even second ballot Hall of Famers, but I think they all deserve to eventually get in.
  10. The problem with a front office being as quiet as theirs is, is that I don't think we know enough to fairly judge him. I know many, many people will disagree with me here but that's how I feel. The Jays situation is one of the most unique in baseball when you think about how rich their owners are, how conservative they are when it comes to spending, the current policies in place (not offering FA's enough money/years), the people at the root of those policies (Beeston, Rogers?), the limitations (AL East, turf, Canada, tax, etc), the long history of mediocrity, all of these things and so many other factors come together to make the Jays situation one that is impossible to understand outside of the front office. We never know how much of what is AA's fault, how much of what is Beeston's fault and how much of what is Rogers' fault. That's probably why we, as a fanbase, ultimately end up crucifying everybody. The GM is incompetent, the President and owner are incompetent, the coaching staff is incompetent, the manager is incompetent, the players are incompetent, our writers are incompetent, the stadium is incompetent, the fanbase itself is incompetent, etc, etc, etc. We can pretend to know what goes on behind the curtain just to feel entitled or important or controversial or to try and validate our opinions, but at the end of the day it's just a bunch of hot air. We don't know what obstacles the GM has to deal with when enticing free agents to come here, we don't know who really is behind those policies of not offering too much to free agents, we don't know if any other GM in the same position would have been able to do any better than Anthopoulos did. We can pretend like we have the information to make that judgement, but the plain and simple reality is that we don't. At the end of the day, Anthopoulos is just the primary whipping boy (as are most general managers) and he will be held responsible for almost everything relating to the Jays, whether justly or unjustly.
  11. I love how the Blue Jay least deserving of reward the past three years is in the best position to win in 2014. Such is life.
  12. I'd take us. I like our depth far more, CC costs way too much, and I don't believe in Kuroda and Nova that much going forward. I mean Kuroda can still be ridiculously good as he's been lately, but at his age you'd expect that something's gotta give, right? Maybe not. Depth still makes me like the Jays more.
  13. I knew of the official Blue Jays forum for years and never ever felt the urge or desire to post there. I tried every other forum but I never touched that one, despite having a MLB.com account for ages. The format/layout for that forum was horrendous, the amount of backwards idiotic opinions were far too abundant and it didn't seem very active at all. I seriously would have gone on to a Yankee or Red Sox forum for baseball discussion before joining that one.
  14. Doesn't vBulletin allow the option for moderators/administrators to hand out warnings/infractions? If you guys can set up such a feature, any time someone steps out of line, you can give them an infraction. They get a message telling them they've been warned, and it sends them a copy of the post that warranted it. After a certain amount of time (three months?) the infraction expires. If someone gets three active infractions, they get banned for a week (three strikes, you're out). Any offences after that result in longer bans (two weeks, one month, three months, permanent). A regulated system like this will help keeps mods unbiased, while also not severely punishing people who are quality posters and just needed to be kept in check now and then. It will also make quick work of guys like metallijay and MohYou, because they'd likely get infracted in quick succession for their constant disruptive behaviour. That, or they'd have no choice but to fix their acts; a win-win situation for the rest of the board. This should also greatly reduce backseat moderation because it will allow most of us to ignore the trolls, knowing moderators are constantly taking action. In the current system, it's "ban or nothing" so moderators have to let a lot of things slide because they're not necessarily ban-worthy. Infractions give you the step between banning and letting someone slide completely.
  15. To be fair, if someone has 1000 posts and the majority of them are garbage, they shouldn't be around long enough to make a thousand posts in the first place. Being funny or light-hearted is one thing, contributing absolutely nothing during your entire time in a community is another. I say this because there are posters like that.
  16. I feel Stroman as well. And I no longer see it as 1a/1b either, I think Stroman is a clear #1 in our system right now, especially with all the praise he's received, it's made me feel a bit more confident about him. Maybe this will sound stupid some day when we look back, but right now he's definitely the one I'd least like moved.
  17. That's me. http://i.imgur.com/py2PxcN.gif
  18. Give you some type of data that suggests drafting only pitchers is the way to go? How about the fact that every player we want in trade comes with the price tag of our pitching prospects? How about the fact that AA has made acquiring 4-WAR position players (Rasmus, Escobar, Reyes) look easy while we're dealing with perennial desperation when it comes to pitching? That's ********. 29 other GMs could have picked up Edwin when he went on waivers, TWICE. Where was the hand-me-down there? He was the GM that picked up Edwin from waivers and he was the GM that signed them both to extensions long before they were sure things. This is the kind of steaming pile of garbage that I'm talking about when I say people's hate for AA has gone above and beyond what it should be. Every f***ing team has players that come out of nowhere. Chris Davis for the Orioles, RA Dickey for the Mets, the list goes on and on. It is absolutely 100% to AA's credit that he saw the promise in both players and extended them to amazing f***ing deals while EVERYBODY said to sell high on them, exactly how they're saying about Rasmus right now. Some of you are completely shameless when it comes to how biased your opinions are.
  19. Totally. We would be so much better off having Jack Z or Ruben Amaro Jr or Ed Wade or Larry Beinfest or Dayton Moore or Tony Reagins or Omar Minaya; hell let's call up Chuck LaMar or Jim Bowden.
  20. Done!
  21. Just look at the quotes above, Anthopoulos implies that the entire negotiations around the Marlins deal were communicated to Larry Beinfest. Has anyone here ever heard the name Michael Hill? No? He's the GM of the Miami Marlins. http://i.imgur.com/py2PxcN.gif I would pay to see that.
  22. Alex Anthopoulos is the Vice President and General Manager of the Toronto Blue Jays. Paul Beeston is the President of the Toronto Blue Jays. Paul Beeston is his boss. If Paul Beeston or Rogers want Anthopoulos to do something, it is his job to do it. The day you wake up you might realize that's how jobs in the real world work. There are countless accounts of presidents and owners having a huge hand in what happens with the team. Kasten and Johnson have a massive influence in what the Dodgers do, Beinfest and Loria have a massive influence on what the Marlins do and Moreno has a massive influence in what the Angels do. The Tigers never would have signed Prince Fielder if Illitch himself didn't tell them that he wanted him. It is not a sign of weakness to do your job. Friedman can't just say "f*** your budget, Sternberg" and trade for Alex Rodriguez because he's GM.
  23. Beeston is his boss you troglodyte moron.
  24. Beeston's "selling entertainment" mentality is the exact kind of philosophy I could see tying AA's hands and forcing him into trades like the Dickey one. Dickey was a once domestically abused baseball anomaly coming off a Cy Young season, you couldn't create a more marketable, media-friendly story and I wouldn't be surprised at all to one day find out that it was Beeston and co. that told Alex to make that trade. Prospects don't sell jerseys, prospects don't write books and prospects don't get long press conferences in front of the national sports media where they get to display their wide range of vocabulary. Seeing AA taking his merry f***ing time on acquiring a pitcher in this market, for prospects that are lesser than what he gave for Dickey, makes me think that he wasn't the only one behind that trade.
  25. Yeah, the way they write a lot of the stuff in this book is in a somewhat confusing manner and could stand to be more clear. Btw, catch the money quote by Beeston: "We're selling entertainment, that's what it's all about" And people think AA is the problem here.
